The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (UG) paper leak prime accused Sanjeev Mukhiya was arrested by Economic Offences Unit team, Patna, the officials said on Friday.
The EOU team arrested Mukhiya on Thursday (April 24, 2025) night, said Naiyar Hussain Khan, Additional Director General, Bihar Economic Offences Unit.
On April 9, Bihar Police declared a reward of ₹3 lakh for information leading to the arrest of Sanjeev Mukhia, a key accused in the NEET-UG paper leak case.
Earlier in October last year, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed the chargesheet in the NEET paper theft case in Patna, before the Special Judge Court for CBI, Patna.
The investigation revealed that the NEET UG 2024 question paper was stolen from the control room of OASIS School in Hazaribagh on May 5. The theft occurred after the trunks containing the question papers arrived from the bank vault.

According to the CBI, the accused, Pankaj Kumar, was allowed entry into the control room by the school's Principal, Ahsanul Haque, and Vice Principal, Imtiyaz Alam.
"The accused Pankaj Kumar was clandestinely allowed entry into the control room by Ahsanul Haque, the Principal, and Imtiyaz Alam, the Vice Principal of the school, as part of the conspiracy. Pankaj Kumar tampered with the hinges of the trunk containing the question papers, removed one question paper, photographed all its pages, replaced the paper and resealed the trunk, and exited the control room," the CBI stated.
Following this, the solved question papers were then distributed to the candidates present at the Raj Guest House, Hazaribagh. Further, the solved question paper was scanned and sent digitally to predetermined locations where the members of the accused gang received it.
Only those who paid in advance could enter these locations. After their exams, the candidates were prohibited from taking any printed copies with them.
The CBI found half-burnt pieces of the question paper at Learn Play School, Patna, which led them to OASIS School, the CBI added in the release.

Telangana high court to take up bail plea of mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy today

Hyderabad: The Telangana high court will on Tuesday decide the bail plea of mining baron and Karnataka MLA Gali Janardhan Reddy who was sentenced to seven years along with three others in the illegal Obulapuram mining case recently. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now On Monday, Justice K Lakshman heard arguments in the bail petitions of Gali, Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) MD BV Srinivas Reddy and two others, and reserved his orders for Tuesday. Senior counsel S Nagamuthu argued the case of Gali and urged the court to suspend the sentence and release him on bail. While Srinivas Reddy's counsel Pappu Nageswara Rao, citing judgments of the Supreme Court, said that convicts who have served half of their term could be released on bail. In the current case, both Gali and Srinivas Reddy have served more than three and a half years of jail term as remand prisoners prior to their conviction. The lawyers said the case entrusted to CBI was about alleged illegal mining beyond leasehold areas and transgression of state borders, which finds no mention in its charge sheet, while the case against them was about violation of Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act – which was not dealt with by the probe agency. They also pointed out that when those named as principal offenders – former mines minister Sabita Indra Reddy and former industries secretary Kripanandam – were acquitted, how can those charged with conspiracy be convicted? Opposing the bail pleas, CBI counsel Srinivas Kapatia said the convicts could not show any compelling circumstance that warrants interference by the court. The judge said he would only look at the bail pleas for now and made it clear that their main appeals will be heard from Aug 11. HC to take up Srilakshmi acquittal issue The judge, during the hearing, directed the registry to list before him the case of former industries secretary Y Srilakshmi (who succeeded Kripanandam). The high court had earlier discharged her from the case, but CBI had appealed in SC which directed the HC to hear the CBI version also before arriving at a conclusion. CBI made out a case that the HC had not heard their version before allowing Srilakshmi's plea. The judge said he would decide the issue before the expiry of a three-month deadline fixed by the apex court and directed the CBI to file its counter.

NCLT graft: CBI gets 1-day custody of dy registrar

Mumbai: Observing that there are sufficient grounds to remand the accused to CBI custody, a special court on Monday granted the investigating agency a day's custody of arrested National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) deputy registrar, Charan Pratap Singh. "The accused was arrested on May 29…. The police custody was rejected at that time. Thereafter statements of the witnesses were recorded which shows involvement of the accused. The prosecution wants to conduct further probe on the basis of the new facts," special judge AV Kharkar said. Last week, the CBI said it was expanding its probe into the Rs 3 lakh bribe case as evidence suggests more senior officials may be involved. The CBI informed the special court that "the accused is involved in a corruption racket which may lead to a bigger conspiracy of corrupt practices at NCLT." A court officer allegedly got Rs 50,000 as a share from Singh to influence an NCLT member's decision. A secretary of the accused stayed at the complainant's Lonavala hotel with her family without paying a Rs 30,000 bill which Singh adjusted by reducing the bribe demand. A dispute between siblings over a family-owned hotel in Lonavla is pending before NCLT. One of the brothers filed a case, stating Singh had demanded a bribe to influence proceedings in his favour.

Court pulls up Tihar jail authorities for missing security files of AgustaWestland accused

A Delhi court on Monday (June 9, 2025) pulled up Tihar jail authorities for failing to find the files related to security of Christian Michel James, accused in AgustaWestland case. Special Judge Sanjay Jindal termed the lapse as 'serious concern' and directed the DG Tihar jail to locate the same and file a report in the matter by July 7. The remarks came after the Tihar authorities submitted in the court that the original report sought by the court was 'not traceable despite best efforts'. 'Considering the seriousness of the issues raised by the accused and the facts which have come on record during recent hearings on the grievance of James, it is matter of serious concern that the case file of the inquiry on the basis of which report dated August 29, 2019 was given, is not traceable,' the court said. The matter pertains to an application filed by the accused seeking a re-look at the findings of an inquiry report dated August 29, 2019 on the security arrangements for him inside the prison. James alleged it to be a 'pre-planned conspiracy' to eliminate him in the jail by his enemies related to this case by poisoning him. The jail authorities, in their response, have stated that Mr James's plea was filed after a gap of almost six years. They added that the accused has no threat to his life, while being lodged at present at jail. Mr Michel, a British national, was extradited from Dubai, where he had spent four months in custody, on December 4, 2018. He is among the three alleged middlemen being probed in the case and the other two are Guido Haschke and Carlo Gerosa. The CBI, in its chargesheet, claimed an estimated loss of 398.21 million euros (about ₹2,666 crore) to the exchequer due to the deal that was signed on February 8, 2010, for the supply of VVIP choppers worth 556.262 million euros. The ED chargesheet filed against James in June 2016 alleged he received 30 million euros (about ₹225 crore) from AgustaWestland.
