CBI arrests Aizawl man for ‘sexual assault' of minor

1 2 3 Aizawl: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a man from Aizawl for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor and for possession and distribution of child sexual abuse materials (CSAM). The arrest was made on Monday following an investigation initiated by the CBI without any prior complaint from the minor or family. According to a statement issued by the CBI, the case was registered on May 30 against an unnamed accused on grave charges related to the creation, collection, storage and dissemination of sexually explicit material involving children. He was also reportedly in possession of a large quantity of pornographic content depicting minors, in direct violation of Indian laws protecting children from sexual exploitation. A senior state police official said it is still yet to be confirmed whether the accused, a resident of Aizawl, allegedly nabbed in the case of a recent sexual abuse of a minor boy, is the same accused in the CBI case at hand. A search was conducted at the residence of the accused in Aizawl on June 4, during which the CBI seized several electronic devices. Forensic analysis of the digital content recovered from the devices revealed not only a large volume of CSAM in the form of images and videos but also evidence that the accused sexually assaulted a minor child. The material was verified through international databases, including INTERPOL's International Child Sexual Exploitation database, as well as Cyber Tipline Reports submitted by Google to India's Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the MHA. The digital trail helped investigators to identify, locate and rescue the minor from further harm.
