The sleuths of the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) and Araria Police picked up the accused on May 3. "Acting on a tip-off that a group of fraudsters were allegedly taking money from NEET aspirants, falsely promising them to provide question paper ahead of the exam, EOU alerted its cyber unit in Araria and the district police. Man arrested for forging NEET question paper leak

Patna: Acting on a tip-off, a man was arrested from Islam Nagar village in Araria district on Sunday night for allegedly forging NEET question paper leak by promising the candidates access to the test papers in lieu of money, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police said on Monday. Accused S K Faiz created a social media channel to lure the vulnerable students with question papers and collected money through UPI transactions, investigations revealed. "Investigation revealed that Faiz created a channel on a social media platform to deceive candidates by promising them to provide them with the exam paper and collected money for it. He conducted illegal transactions through a UPI ID into a Punjab National Bank account." He added considering the seriousness of the case, the EOU immediately informed the Araria superintendent of police and in charge of the cyber police station there. After investigation and verification, a case was registered at the cyber police station in Araria on May 3. "We are verifying the details and the amount taken from the candidates," the DIG said.

NEET-UG to be conducted at 125 centres amid tight security today

Patna: The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Undergraduate (NEET-UG) will be conducted in more than 125 centres in Bihar, covering all 35 districts, on Sunday. Patna district alone accounts for 96 examination venues. The exam will be held in a single shift, in offline mode, from 2pm to 5pm. Candidates will be permitted to enter the examination halls between 11am and 1.30pm. To ensure a fair and orderly conduct of the examination, 104 static magistrates, 20 nodal officers and 96 police escorts have been deployed across the state. Also, 15 magistrates have been placed on alert at the district control room. Additional district magistrate (law and order), Patna, has been appointed as the nodal officer responsible for overseeing the smooth conduct of the exam. Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh and SSP Avkash Kumar had earlier held a joint briefing to emphasise the importance of maintaining a clean, fair and peaceful examination environment. Centre superintendents and invigilators were instructed to remain vigilant, responsive and committed to strictly enforcing the guidelines issued by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The DM also directed that all deployed police officers and magistrates must report to their respective examination centres on time. Following last year's paper leak incident, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police had issued an advisory on Friday, warning NEET-UG candidates about the risk of cyberfraud ahead of the exam. The advisory urged candidates to exercise caution and not to trust any phone calls or messages that promise access to question papers or answers before the examination.

2 brothers held for cybercrime

1 2 3 Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police has arrested two cybercriminals who orchestrated scams by impersonating journalists and officials from federal agencies, including the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The accused, identified as Rajesh Kumar and his brother Ranjit Kumar , are residents of Sultanpur Bhatta (Ward 15) under the jurisdiction of Danapur police station in Patna. During the investigation, digital communications retrieved from the accused revealed evidence of fraudulent activities involving several victims. The EOU has seized two three cellphones from the duo. Sanjay Kumar, deputy inspector general (cyber), EOU, said that on May 2, a demand for Rs 2 lakh was made from a doctor at a hospital located at Saguna Mor in Patna. "The unidentified criminals posed as a retired commissioner from the Indian Administrative Service and threatened ED action by calling the doctor on his mobile number. The accused later demanded Rs 2 lakh under the guise of managing the case with the ED. The complainant reported the matter to the EOU and action was taken against the criminals, resulting in the arrest of two people," Kumar told reporters on Saturday. Further examination of the mobile data revealed that the accused were using an account bearing the name of a retired commissioner, Karu Ram, to impersonate officials. This account contained evidence of similar fraudulent communications with other people. "Efforts are on to identify other people targeted by these criminals using the same method of extortion and to trace the accounts through which the extorted money was collected," the DIG added.
