Yankees Urged to Make $37 Million Decision After Losing Streak

Yankees Urged to Make $37 Million Decision After Losing Streak originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Considering their status as a first-place team with legitimate championship hopes, most conversations involving the New York Yankees and the trade deadline focus on who the Bronx Bombers will add before July 31.

However, some discuss who the Yankees could subtract, and embattled starting pitcher Marcus Stroman's name typically pops up.
Stroman, who has been on the injured list since mid-April with a knee injury, isn't helping his cause. The two-time All-Star allowed three runs (two earned) over 3 1/3 innings in a rehab start for Double-A Somerset on Wednesday.
Yankees fans already had issues with Stroman, whose two seasons in pinstripes have featured inconsistency and public feuds with management over his role. Wednesday's start, one that came during the big-league club's embarrassing six-game losing streak, only incensed fans further.
'He's going to get smoked if those are the numbers he is running with the kids,' one X/Twitter user wrote.
Added another: 'They better send this dude packing to somewhere else. Horrible contract.'

Stroman has allowed four runs (three earned) and walked three in 6 2/3 minor-league innings.
'Just what the Yankees need in a historic offensive slump,' read one comment, 'one of the worst pitchers in the league.'
Stroman, who is in the second season of a two-year, $37 million contract, gave up 12 runs over 9 1/3 innings before his knee injury. It is unclear if he'll rejoin the Yankees' rotation or move to the bullpen after his rehab stint.

Stroman turned heads in spring training when he initially refused to pitch out of the bullpen. However, he cracked the Opening Day rotation after injuries to various teammates.

One fan begged: 'Get this man away from my baseball organization 😭😭😭'
Stroman can hit free agency this winter, and we don't expect him to ink an extension with the Yankees anytime soon.

Geno Smith Predicted to Have Bigger Impact Than Sam Darnold in 2025

Geno Smith Predicted to Have Bigger Impact Than Sam Darnold in 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Geno Smith might just be the most underrated quarterback in the NFL right now. Over his last three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, he compiled a 27-22 record with 71 touchdown passes. Advertisement At times, he has played like a top-10 quarterback. He's now with the Las Vegas Raiders and should have the best offensive playcaller in his career in Chip Kelly. That's not to mention he'll be able to throw to superstar tight end Brock Bowers. The Raiders have had a rough few years, but much of that was due to poor quarterback play. In a recent column for Jeffri Chadiha answered a question about which non-Aaron Rodgers veteran quarterback who joined a new team this offseason will have the biggest impact. He thinks the answer is clear. Las Vegas Raiders QB Geno Ward-Imagn Images "There's a long list here -- including Sam Darnold (Seattle), Justin Fields (New York Jets), Russell Wilson (New York Giants) and Daniel Jones (Indianapolis) -- but Geno Smith is the obvious choice," Chadiha wrote. "The Raiders traded a third-round pick to acquire him from Seattle, and he's walking into a situation that is extremely familiar to him. Head coach Pete Carroll was leading the Seahawks back in 2022 when that team decided to deal Russell Wilson to Denver and elevate Smith from backup to starter after Smith spent several years operating as a journeyman backup. Smith has been a solid signal-caller in the three seasons since that point, as he's averaged 4,075 passing yards and thrown 71 touchdown passes and 35 interceptions." Raiders DE Maxx Crosby Has Bold Jon Gruden Prediction

Raiders DE Maxx Crosby Has Bold Jon Gruden Prediction originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Jon Gruden took nine years off from coaching after getting fired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2009, only to return to the Las Vegas Raiders in 2018. He only lasted a little more than three seasons before he had to go on hiatus due to the email controversy that led to his resignation. Advertisement Gruden has slowly made his way back into the public eye. He's been working with Barstool Sports and was recently at a Baltimore Ravens practice as a guest of head coach John Harbaugh. Although his second tenure with the Raiders was unsuccessful, many believe he'll get another chance to coach. Former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon J. Downing-Imagn Images Star defensive end Maxx Crosby, who Gruden drafted in 2019, believes that we'll see him coaching again at some point. 'The dude is addicted to football, that's all he does, and I think he will get another opportunity, whether it's college or being a head coach somewhere or coming back to the league and doing it at some point,' Crosby said on the "Glory Daze with Johnny Manziel" podcast. Advertisement Gruden has expressed interest in returning to coaching, but there's also no rush. He likely still made much of the remaining 10-year, $100 million contract he previously signed with the Raiders. Plus, he makes a lot of money with Barstool. However, he was also handsomely paid for his job at ESPN, and eventually chose a return to football. Eventually, the call to return will be strong, and there will likely be at least one team out there willing to give him another chance. Raiders DE Maxx Crosby Has Strong Message on Shedeur Sanders

Raiders DE Maxx Crosby Has Strong Message on Shedeur Sanders originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Shedeur Sanders is going to continue to be a popular news topic for the foreseeable future, even after falling to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He's a talented quarterback who likely should've been drafted higher, but dramatically fell for myriad reasons. Advertisement It may never be clear why exactly NFL teams didn't want Sanders, but there's been a lot of speculation that he has a poor attitude, and his status as a big star could lead to some distractions. Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby has known Sanders since he was a kid, and he defended the young quarterback while stating that the concerns about him are misplaced. Cleveland Browns QB Shedeur Blaze-Imagn Images '͏I think he's handled it the ͏right way,' Crosby said of Sanders on the "Glory Daze with Johnny Manziel" podcast. 'People have their certain opinions, you're Dei͏on͏ Sander͏s͏' son, he's got ͏a͏ big ͏personality, bigger than life, he's got his jewelry, he's ͏got this, and ͏you know ͏people just automatically put him ͏in a ͏box that he's a͏ distraction, not ͏a good ͏kid͏,͏ things like ͏that ͏and I͏ ͏think that's unfair.' Advertisement Sanders has shown some immaturity with how he's spoken about opposing players or players who transferred from Colorado while he was there, but he's never gotten into serious legal trouble, and most of his teammates have spoken highly of him. He hasn't created any major negative headlines since joining the Cleveland Browns, but time will tell if he truly deserved to fall to the fifth round of the draft.
