Jamyla Norwood: Missing US teen's mom got phone from woman threatening to ‘beat Jamyla and push her down the stairs'
Disturbing phone call received by Jamyla Norwood's mother
Norwood has not spoken with her family since Monday, July 28, around 3:26 p.m. local time, authorities said, as reported by People. According to local radio station WTMJ and Fox affiliate WITI Norwood's mother was speaking to her on the phone when she heard a female voice in the background threaten to 'beat Jamyla and push her down the stairs.'
The phone disconnected after the threat, and no one has heard from the teenager since. The call, however, was not the end of Norwood's mother's nightmares. She later received shocking text messages claiming her daughter is dead.
It is unclear who sent the messages and whose voice was heard on the threatening call.

Four teenage girls-Eliza Thomas, 17, sisters Jennifer Harbison, 17, and Sarah Harbison, 15, and Amy Ayers, just 13-were found brutally murdered inside a 'I Can't Believe It's Yogurt!' shop on West Anderson Lane. HBO's new docuseries The Yogurt Shop Murders premieres on August 3.( The series first debuted at SXSW and will stream weekly on Max. The Yogurt Shop Murders filming locations The murders took place inside a 'I Can't Believe It's Yogurt!' shop on West Anderson Lane, Austin, Texas, on December 6, 1991. The 2025 docuseries The Yogurt Shop Murders was filmed in Austin, Texas. According to People, at first, responders thought it was just a fire. Three confessed by 1999, but the investigation was riddled with issues. The prosecution fell apart. By 2009, all had been released and had their charges dismissed. DNA evidence later excluded them from the crime scene entirely, adding more confusion to a case already marked by missteps and unanswered questions. HBO calls the series 'a haunting' look at how the case unraveled and how it continues to devastate families and the city alike. Brown's approach, known for her patient and emotionally layered storytelling, aims to put the spotlight back on those left behind, rather than just the crime itself. Other residents of the location For Austin residents, the yogurt shop is not just a crime scene-it is a wound that never really healed. Many locals still remember where they were the day the news broke. For those who lived through it, the tragedy became part of the city's fabric. 'They're not forgotten. They're not given up on,' said Angie Ayers, sister-in-law of victim Amy Ayers, in a past interview with People. Brown's series dives deep into the lasting impact on loved ones, law enforcement, and a city still searching for answers. For many in Austin, it's not just a cold case. Ex-Maroon 5 Bassist Mickey Madden's Wife Accuses Him Of Abuse: ‘I'm Terrified'
Last Updated: Catherine Blair Bowman accused her husband of physically abusing her after she confronted him for allegedly sexting a teenage girl. Former Maroon 5 bassist Mickey Madden's wife, Catherine Blair Bowman, filed a restraining order against him. In new court documents filed on Wednesday, July 30, in Los Angeles County Superior Court, she stated that she was 'terrified" of him as he allegedly physically abused her after she confronted him for behaving inappropriately with minor girls. As reported by People, the incident took place on July 21 after Catherine was tipped off by a teenage girl, who sent her a text saying that Mickey was sexting with her. 'I was extremely hurt and disturbed. I needed to understand what was going on between them," said his wife in her statement. She then went on to share details about the alleged assault incident. After she received the text, Catherine asked Mickey to show her his phone, which he denied. When she asked him to hand over his phone, he began deleting the texts. 'I could see that he was quickly deleting the evidence from his phone," she said. His wife then grabbed his phone and quickly ran out of the house, which 'enraged" Mickey, and he also followed her. Mickey Madden's Wife Said He 'Slammed' Her Body Against Kitchen Counter As stated in the legal documents, the former Maroon 5 member used all his force to restrain his wife. 'He then slammed my body against the marble kitchen counter," she mentioned, adding that she was in pain and was 'terrified." Catherine further said, 'He shoved me to the ground and was out of his mind. I landed on my knees. He kept screaming for me to give him the phone. He appeared literally insane to me. I had never seen such uncontrollable anger and a completely different person." The same court documents also described another incident of abuse, which happened on May 14. Catherine shared, 'He physically abused me. Extreme emotional harm. I'm now terrified of him." Mickey Madden Allegedly Hired An 18-Year-Old Prostitute The screenshots that were submitted in the court showed that the 46-year-old bassist called his sexting 'A private and fake harmless fantasy" that had 'No bearing on real life at all." In another message, Catherine accused him of hiring prostitutes, saying, 'I do not know the man who hires 18-year-old prostitutes to text them about wanting to be their stepdad and rape them while we are on our honeymoon." Mickey replied to her text, apologising for his actions and acknowledging that they were wrong, but he also claimed that those were just 'consensual fantasy talk." In the court documents, Catherine also alleged that Mickey refused to get intimate with her after she expressed her desire to have kids with him. Instead, he began sleeping with prostitutes. A judge has now granted Catherine a temporary restraining order, which also includes their two Siberian huskies. The order is effective till August 20. Madden, who left Maroon 5 in 2020, is currently in a rehabilitation facility. view comments First Published: August 01, 2025, 17:16 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
