Unsure how to spend Mother's Day? Check out these ideas

Perth Now10-05-2025

If you've left Mother's Day planning to the last minute and are scrambling for ideas, it's okay. Here is a list of budget-friendly activities to bring the family together.
For families looking to jump the gun and celebrate a day early, Perth Makers Market is putting on the perfect Mother's Day Twilight Market on Saturday.
Located in the Supreme Court Gardens, the West Australian classic invites friends, families, and singletons down to celebrate the artisans of WA and the incredible mothers in our lives.
Open from 4pm until 9pm, people can browse the 100 local stalls, each offering handmade treasures perfect for treating mum.
'With over 80 talented local makers, delicious eats, live music, and family fun under the stars, it's the perfect way to celebrate Mum and enjoy a beautiful evening out,' Perth Makers Market said on Instagram.
Special family moments can be captured at the market's photo booth, and kids can write their mum a heartfelt message at the Mother's Day card station.

If handmade WA delicacies aren't your jam and your family would prefer a celebration surrounded by animals, head to the Perth Zoo.
Located in the heart of the city, mums have free entry to see the animals that call WA home.
Perth Zoo is home to more than 1300 animals, many of whom have families of their own.
Specifically, in the Amazonia habitat, zoo visitors can see Miski, a baby Bolivian squirrel monkey who keeps their mum Renia busy with cheeky antics.
Environment Minister Matthew Swinbourn said he was pleased to continue the Perth Zoo tradition of celebrating mums with free entry to Perth Zoo on Mother's Day. 'Perth Zoo is a fun day out for the whole family, and this is a fantastic opportunity to make new memories while visiting the more than 1300 animals that call the zoo home,' he said.
'This free entry offer for Mother's Day is also a chance to highlight the important conservation work of the zoo, including the great success of its breeding programs.'
Another budget-friendly idea is taking mum to see the beautiful blooms in Subiaco.
The vibrant flower festival Subi Blooms is open until May 11, featuring 15 large-scale floral installations.
City of Subiaco Mayor David McMullen said this year's theme perfectly encapsulates Subiaco, combining its rich heritage and vibrant growth.
'We are set to attract people from all corners of the metropolitan area, and will show people what Subi has on offer year-round. I encourage you to come along and make a day of it,' he said.

Northbridge dinner at Shadow Wine Bar collaborate with Perth premiere of original play Never Have I Ever

Dinner and a show might be a staple of London's West End or New York's Broadway but with a new collaboration in Northbridge, you can explore a cultured night out in our fair city. Shadow Wine Bar is teaming up with The Black Swan Theatre Company to offer locals and visitors alike a special menu to celebrate the West Australian season premiere of the theatrical production Never Have I Ever . The show, written by The Guilty Feminist podcast host Deborah Frances-White, is set in a boutique restaurant where a group of diverse friends discuss race, class, privilege over duck terrine and a plentiful supply of alcohol. Francis-White said she did not want to present the play in a sanctimonious way, rather explore ideas 'with humour and heart.' 'But it's important to allow ourselves to explore points of view through the characters' experiences. We just need those characters to be multi-layered and enjoyable to spend time with, even when they're flawed and feckless.' Without giving too much away, the friends differ in their approaches to the struggles of life and have vastly different financial situations, and as a drinking game is initiated, secrets and hidden feelings emerge. Prior to the show, punters can choose from a selection of pasta dishes at Shadow Wine Bar along with a glass of red, white or sparkling and then head to the show at the nearby Heath Ledger Theatre. Never Have I Ever runs from June 14 to July 6. Tickets for the package can be purchased here: Tickets for just the show can be purchased here:
