Warning over children playing in derelict building

Yahoo20-07-2025
A warning about the dangers of going into derelict buildings has been issued by police in part of Leicestershire.
Neighbourhood officers said they had received reports of children getting into a sealed building in the Greenhill area of Coalville.
On visiting the scene they said they found people inside, who were identified and notifications will be sent to their parents.
North West Leicestershire's policing team said: "Many derelict buildings are unstable, with unsafe floors, electrical works and broken glass and other hazards."
They added: "Whilst this behaviour may seem like fun we would like to remind anybody that is thinking of having this sort of 'fun' there are many potential dangers of entering abandoned and derelict buildings.
"Some buildings may have been empty for a long time and not a safe place to enter.
"Could parents please speak with their children about this danger."

3 women in Gambia are charged in the death of one-month-old in female genital mutilation case

SERREKUNDA, Gambia — Three women were charged in Gambia over the death of a one-month-old girl who had undergone female genital mutilation, the police said, in the first such case since the country stopped short of reversing a ban on the practice last year. The West African nation banned female genital cutting in 2015, but the country was rocked by a renewed debate about the practice last year following the first prosecutions of female cutters. It was the first time the practice — also known as female circumcision and outlawed in many nations — was publicly discussed.
