Camborne boxing club hopes new home will secure its future
The club currently operates out of a 1940s pre-fabricated building on an industrial estate on the outskirts of Camborne.Mr Murray said the current building was no longer fit for purpose and they had no choice but to build a new one. "Our changing rooms and facilities are not up to the modern standards our governing body expect - so it's now time for us to replace the building with a modern, vibrant building that will be sustainable," he explained.
The new gym would be two storeys high and include a ring with spectator seating to allow the club to host competitions. It would also have community space and a cafe to bring in additional revenue.The club hosts training sessions for under-10s, juniors and adults most weekday evenings. Josh, 14, from Camborne, said he was excited by the plans for the new gym."I think loads of people would come here if it looked like that. I want to be a boxer. Having a better facility will help people get better," he said.Kyros, 15, also lives in Camborne and admitted that without the club he would probably just stay at home and be on his phone."I think it's a really good place and it's better than going out and making trouble," he said."It helps me mentally and if I have any anger during school it helps me get it out."
Tegan, who is 16 and from Redruth, hoped more modern facilities would attract more girls to the club. "The new building would give us female changing rooms, female toilets. I think it would be great to have more facilities to train and progress," she explained.Mr Murray said they have had conversations with the Department of Culture, Media, and Sport and hoped to access government grants for the new building.He said: "Having a more modern club will bring in more children, more young adults and give them more things to do - to keep them off the street, to get them out of trouble, to stop being on their iPads and computer games. "It'd give the youth of Camborne and the surrounding area somewhere that they're proud of."

Truro City promotion 'a big deal' for Cornwall
Truro City midfielder Billy Palfrey says the club's promotion to the National League is important for the whole county of is the first time a club from Cornwall has reached the fifth tier of English football, and Truro have become the county's first fully professional side. "I think it's proven this year that we need the fans to push us along, and they have," he told BBC Radio Cornwall."Last year, we weren't at this ground, we weren't even in the county, and it's been like that for a long time, and obviously we weren't getting many supporters."But this year coming home and getting promoted has proven that - I think it's just been a massive, massive part of it, and they've just helped us get over the line."Now hopefully they can help us push even more, and we will need them, so the more the better for us."While Palfrey expects a noticeable step up in quality in the opponents he and his teammates will face, he is also excited to see how the Tinners will fare at a national level for the first time. The club begins their season with an away trip to Wealdstone on Saturday before their first home game in the National League seven days later - an occasion Palfrey said he and his teammates could not wait for. "Everyone's going to be buzzing. It should be packed here, and obviously that will get us right up for it."I think that will be massive and it will just be exciting times, really."The first home game for us in this league is massive, and we are going to need every single fan to get us over the edge."

Upgraded Kettering sports facilities for future Lionesses opened
An updated sports facility that hopes to encourage more female football players has been officially Sports Park at Thurston Drive in the Northamptonshire town now has an all-weather astroturf pitch, new fencing, LED floodlights, spectator area as well as a refurbished sports supported by Lionesses Futures Fund, the pitch will prioritise access for women and girls through reserved peak-time slots and inclusive changing facilities, the local council pavilion, originally built in the 1980s, will also support the Kettering Town Harriers Athletics Club, which gets a new flood-lit track on the site. The facility will also be open to the wider community, ensuring everyone can benefit, North Northamptonshire Council says. Construction on the improvements began in March 2025 following the award of over £1m in funding from various Benneyworth from North Northamptonshire Council said: "It's very timely to launch our new facilities here at Kettering as the Lionesses celebrate a phenomenal successive win in the 2025 UEFA Euros."Football is a growing sport for women and girls and this is a much-needed resource for the Kettering community."Northamptonshire Football Association chief executive officer Kirsty Clarke said the organisation was "excited to welcome all members of the community" to the sports park. The new pitch at Kettering is one of more than 30 projects across England to benefit from the Lionesses Futures Fund, a £30m cash injection from the government and The FA delivered by the Football Foundation. He also allegedly confessed to police that he was involved in a similar incident in Atlanta's July 29 loss to the visiting Golden State Valkyries - a shocking moment that went viral last week and appears to have inspired copycats in Chicago and Los Angeles . Carver was allegedly live streaming Friday's incident in Atlanta before being apprehended.
