Anger after Howard Stern's crude 'ugliest girl' competition resurfaces

Daily Maila day ago
Shock jock radio host Howard Stern has been criticized after clips showing his 'Buttaface Competitions' to find 'ugliest' woman with the best body resurfaced online.
Stern, 71, hosted the infamous 'Buttaface Contest' in Las Vegas for many years in the early 2000s, with viewers now criticizing the host for being 'derogatory' and 'heartless'.
The competition involved women parading around in bikinis to show off their bodies to a stadium of people while wearing a paper bag on their heads to hide their faces.
During the competition, contestants would eventually take the bags off their heads to reveal their faces to a jeering crowd, while the panel of judges made comments about their appearance and gave them a score out of 10.
The judges and crowd would act shocked and disgusted as the women took off the bags after parading around in skimpy bikinis and heels.
As Stern said himself in a clip circulating online, the competition was to find the woman with 'the best body and the worst face,' with the winner of the competition winning $25,000.
The slang term 'butterface' is used to describe a person with an attractive body but what it considered to be a less attractive face, with the phrase a play on 'but her face'.
Clips from 2004 in particular have been heavily circulated on social media, showing Stern and the judges and co-hosts making cruel jokes about the women's faces while objectifying and sexualizing their bodies.
In one clip, the panel made crude comments about a contestant named Stacey, saying: 'I noticed she shaves her private region and I like her a** tattoo, gives you something to look at,' before Stern tells her to take the paper bag off her head.
Once she does, the crowd erupts in shock, with some making faces like they were about to vomit, laughing hysterically, or even putting their hands over their face in disgust.
In most of the clips available online, the contestants look visibly upset as they're booed and shouted at by the rowdy crowd.
Horrified users commented on the clips, in disbelief over the callousness of the competition.
'This is terrible, meanwhile the girl is gorgeous and you can see how bothered she is by it all,' someone wrote. 'She should've never been wearing a bikini and in this situation with Howard Stern the degenerate. Best part is, the panel is all uglier inside and out.'
'Artie Lange and Howard Stern are judging people for having 'ugly' faces?! The absolute irony,' someone else weighed in.
'I feel sorry for every single girl who had ever been to this show and got called hideous/ugly. This show is a blatant evidence of women getting objectified and shamed altogether,' wrote another.
While many were disgusted over the competition, others didn't see the issue with it.
'Seriously getting offended by a bit from 30 years ago? As if they rounded up women and forced them to be in this competition. The world was different, Stern would have told you that you look like someone Yassified one of the Costco guys,' one objected.
The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Stern for comment.
Stern first launched The Howard Stern Show in 1986 on the radio.
His popularity peaked in the '90s when he became a media sensation for his shock jock stunts and outrageous no-holds-barred interviews.
In 1997, he starred in his own feature film about his life and career called Private Parts and released a handful of best-selling books.
Stern has hosted the second incarnation of The Howard Stern Show since 2006, but as the end of his $500million five-year contract looms, speculation is swirling that the show is 'doomed' after the star became 'woke' and listener numbers fell.
However, a defiant Stern is reportedly planning to hit back and resurrect his career, even as the future of his long-running SiriusXM radio show hangs in the balance.

Kate Gosselin gives frosty response to son's claim that kids were 'pitted against each other' after divorce

Kate Gosselin has pushed back against her son Collin's allegations regarding their family estrangement. The former reality star, 50, was on TikTok Monday, sharing some of her duties during the 12-hour shift she had just completed, while loading her dishwasher and trying to answer questions from fans. In the comments, one person posted a screenshot of her son Collin's recent TikTok in which he claimed he and his siblings had been 'forced apart.' Kate is estranged from Collin and her daughter Hannah, who went to live with their dad, Jon, 48, in 2016, as part of a nasty custody battle. In response to the screenshot, the Kate Plus 8 star wrote 'He knows why.' Collin has previously accused his mother of horrific abuse, claiming she would lock him up in the basement and zip tie his hands and feet. Kate placed Collin in a treatment facility when he was 12 for behavioral issues, a move that was contested by his father. Collin and Hannah are two of the Gosselin sextuplets featured in the reality show Jon & Kate plus 8, which ran from 2007-2009, along with siblings Aadan, Alexis, Leah and Joel, 21. Kate and Jon also share twins Mady and Cara, 24. After Jon and Kate divorced in 2009, the show carried on as Kate plus 8, airing from 2015 to 2016. Elsewhere in the comments section, a follower asked why she was working 12 hour shifts as a home healthcare nurse. 'Honestly? Providing for 8 kids,' she said matter of factly. 'College funds which I am proud to say covered all of their college and more and LAWYERS,' she said referring to her expensive court battles with Jon. 'Sickening but I was drug [sic] into court constantly and that costs A TON,' she explained. 'Sad bc my kids could have a lot more saved and I could have a retirement saved if it weren't for lawyers :(' When someone posted a screen shot of Collin's allegations he and his siblings were 'pitted against each other' in the comments section, Kate replied with a simple 'He knows why' When another commenter asked why she was working 12-hour shifts, Kate explained, 'College funds which I am proud to say covered all of their college and more and LAWYERS,' referring to her expensive court battles with Jon Looking at the bright side, Kate wrote, 'It's okay. I'm helping other families and I feel needed and I enjoy helping.' Others expressed their admiration for the mother-of-eight. 'Looking back now, I can see how you were portrayed as the villain and you weren't. I apologize for ever thinking that.,' said another. 'I recall disliking you, but now I feel like that is because of how you were portrayed on that damn show! I see how normal you are and now that I'm a mom I GET IT!! You are literally all of us Mom's and I'm here for it!!!' wrote a sympathizer. 'I love this Kate,' said a fan. 'As we've all grown older, we now recognize how misunderstood you truly were. We hear you now.'

Bridal couple blasted for 'gross' and 'delusional' email to wedding guests ahead of the big day: 'This reeks of narcissist'

A bride and groom have been criticised after the email they allegedly sent to their guests ahead of the wedding was shared online. One of those invited to the anonymous couple's big day was so outraged by the message that they took to the Reddit group Wedding Shaming to unveil the American pair's 'gross' request. Sharing a screenshot of the note, which has since been deleted, the person wrote: 'Just got this email and mad enough to make a Reddit account.' In the message, the bride and groom revealed how they were about to offer 'some guidance for gifts so that nothing goes to waste'. They explained how they 'already have everything we "need" for our home' - so instead, urged guests to contribute to their 'honeymoon fund, spa days, and our "future home upgrades" (think bigger TV, wine fridge, etc)'. The couple suggested the 'minimum gift' from each guest should be $250, but insisted their friends and family should 'feel free to be more generous if you feel so inspired', adding that the 'experience we're offering is worth it'. 'We know this is unconventional, but we've worked hard on making our day special for you, so we hope you can return the favour,' concluded the pair. However, the email left many people outraged in the comment section of the post, with one person writing: 'This is gross.' A bride and groom have been criticised after the email (pictured) they allegedly sent to their guests ahead of the wedding was shared online Another said: 'The reception should be for the guests. But that's called hosting. This reeks of narcissist - "I did all this work for you (that you didn't ask for), so what are you going to do for me?"' A third added: 'Completely delusional. I'm sitting here counting out pennies to buy groceries and this lady thinks people should at minimum spend $500 on a wedding gift?' For their guests who are more 'traditional', the bride and groom did link two gifts in their email, one seemingly a designer bag. 'If I had sent an email like that before my wedding, my parents would have probably disowned me,' wrote one person in the comments. Another said: 'I would send a reply stating that it is extremely tacky to send an email detailing how much a person must spend on a "gift" for a wedding. Therefore, I will not attend, saving you at least $250 for the cost of my attendance.' The bride and groom's email read: 'Hello friends and family! As we approach the big day, we wanted to give you some guidance for gifts so that nothing goes to waste. 'We are not registered anywhere, as we already have everything we "need" for our home. 'Instead, we would love if you could contribute to our honeymoon fund, spa days, and our "future home upgrades" (think bigger TV, wine fridge, etc). 'We kindly ask that all contributions be in cash or venmo (no cheques please!). Minimum suggested gift is $250 per guest, but feel free to be more generous if you feel so inspired. The experience we're offering is worth it. 'If you're traditional and HAVE to get a gift these are some things we want... (two Amazon links were included). 'We know this is unconventional, but we've worked hard on making our day special for you, so we hope you can return the favour!' The email comes after another bride-to-be was 'torn apart' over a 'tacky' and 'cringe' note she sent out to guests who declined her wedding invitation or failed to RSVP on time. The bride and groom decided to send out a 'you will be missed' card to prevent guests who forgot to RSVP from showing up unannounced on the wedding day expecting a seat. 'We are so sorry you cannot make it,' the card read. 'You are receiving this to let you know that your name will not be among those attending the wedding. 'This is either because you declined the invitation or you did not RSVP on time. Either way you will be missed.' But it was the next detail on the card that got everyone talking. If you still want to send the couple a gift, there is still time,' the couple said, which was printed in a larger font size. The card ended with a link to the couple's online wedding gift registry. The bride pointed out the card had a medieval design because they were having a Lord of the Rings themed wedding. 'So I am sending this to people who did not RSVP (or declined the invite)... Should I word it differently/add anything? It feels pretty empty,' she explained. 'I added the gifts part because I was trying to fill space. We have a good number of people who have not RSVPed and multiple reminder texts have been sent out. I just don't want people showing up expecting a spot.' Her post was re-shared on Reddit - with many taking particular issue with the bride and groom for still trying to get gifts from guests who can't make the wedding. 'This was just a horrible idea. Terrible. I'm getting a sinking ick feeling just seeing it,' one said. 'Nice try, but there's no way to make this less tacky,' another shared. However, some defended the bride and groom's card. 'To be fair she clearly states that multiple reminders have been sent. At that point it's entirely on the guest and it's reasonable to take their silence as a no and clarify that,' one explained.
