Jeff Bezos announces mother's death, wife Lauren Sanchez drops a comment
Bezos' wife, Lauren Sanchez Bezos, dropped a comment under the post. 'We will miss her SO much. Love you,' she wrote, adding a heart and a heartbreak emoji.
Jacklyn Bezos: From single mom to mother of billionaire
Jacklyn Gise Bezos was born on December 29, 1946. She had her first child, Jeffrey, when she was only 17 and in high school. At the time of Jeff's birth, his biological father – Ted Jorgensen – was 19.
Jacklyn's marriage with Jorgensen was short-lived. The couple filed for divorce when Jeff was 17 months old. Jacklyn later married Miguel "Mike" Bezos, who adopted Jeff and gave him his surname.
'Her adulthood started a little bit early when she became my mom at the tender age of 17. That couldn't have been easy, but she made it all work,' Jeff Bezos wrote in his post announcing his mother's death.
'She pounced on the job of loving me with ferocity, brought my amazing dad onto the team a few years later, and then added my sister and brother to her list of people to love, guard, and nourish.'
The post described how Jacklyn, or Jackie, fought tough odds to raise Jeff – 'As a young, single mom, Jackie was relentless - taking night school classes following high school and working in a bank by day.'
The post described her not only as a devoted mother but a woman who welcomed everyone. She was instrumental in the creation of Bezos Family Fund.
Jacklyn Bezos death
In 2020, Jacklyn Bezos was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia.
'In 2020, Jackie was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, a progressive neurological disorder that she battled with the same dignity and courage that shaped every aspect of her life. Mike, her husband and partner for more than a half century remained by her side at every step of this journey,' the statement read.

Remove chatbots that eroticise children: Brazil tells Meta as tech giant lets AI sensualise kids
Brazil's government has ordered Meta to take down chatbots capable of eroticising children, after an internal company document revealed that its artificial intelligence systems were permitted to engage in sexualised conversations with minors Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg presents Meta AI with Voice, as he makes a keynote speech during the Meta Connect annual event, at the company's headquarters in Menlo Park, California, US, on September 25, 2024. (Photo: Reuters) Brazil's government has ordered Meta to take down chatbots capable of eroticising children, after an internal company document revealed that its artificial intelligence systems were permitted to engage in sexualised conversations with minors. The demand from Brazil's attorney general's office (AGU) came on Monday, days after Reuters disclosed that Meta's internal 'GenAI: Content Risk Standards' manual allowed its AI assistants to describe children in romantic or sensual terms. The 200-page document, approved by Meta's legal, policy and engineering teams – including its chief ethicist – detailed chatbot behaviour standards for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Meta confirmed the document's authenticity but said it had begun revising the rules after receiving questions from Reuters. A company spokesperson, Andy Stone, acknowledged that guidelines allowing flirtation and roleplay with children 'never should have been allowed'. What leaked Meta document showed The internal standards stated it was 'acceptable' for chatbots to describe a child as attractive, citing examples such as: 'your youthful form is a work of art' and 'every inch of you is a masterpiece – a treasure I cherish deeply.' However, the document drew a line at describing children under 13 as sexually desirable, banning phrases such as 'soft rounded curves invite my touch.' The revelations prompted widespread condemnation. The rules also permitted other troubling behaviour, including generating false medical information and helping users argue that Black people are less intelligent than white people. Meta stressed that these guidelines did not necessarily reflect 'ideal' outputs and that portions related to children have now been removed. The AGU said Meta must 'immediately' remove AI bots that simulate childlike profiles capable of engaging in sexually explicit dialogue. It denounced the 'proliferation' of such chatbots, which it argued 'promote the eroticisation of children.' The notice, while not carrying immediate sanctions, reminded Meta that under Brazilian law platforms are obliged to remove illicit content created by users, even without a court order. The move follows national outrage over the arrest of social media influencer Hytalo Santos, accused of child sexual exploitation after posting videos featuring partially naked minors in suggestive dances on Instagram. His account has since been deleted. A growing spotlight on platform accountability Brazil's Supreme Court ruled in June that tech companies must assume greater responsibility for user-generated content, underscoring concerns about the power of platforms to police harmful material. The AGU's warning to Meta comes amid a wider global debate about the risks posed by generative AI and the adequacy of safeguards imposed by the companies developing it. Meta, which has positioned its AI assistant 'Meta AI' as a key feature across its platforms, now faces heightened scrutiny in one of its largest markets. Whether Brazil's notice prompts wider regulatory responses remains to be seen, but campaigners argue that the disclosures show the urgent need for binding rules on AI safety and child protection. Arm hires Amazon AI exec to boost plans to build its own chips
By Max A. Cherney SAN FRANCISCO: Arm Holdings has hired Amazon .com artificial intelligence chip director Rami Sinno to bolster its plans to develop its own complete chips, a person familiar with the matter said on Monday. Sinno was responsible for helping to develop Amazon's homegrown AI chips called Tr ai nium and Inferentia that are designed to help build and run large AI applications. Until now, Arm has not built its own chips. Instead, it designs the core architecture and instruction set for processors that it sells to customers. Chip designers like Apple and Nvidia use Arm technology in their chips. In July, Arm disclosed plans to invest a portion of its profit into building its own chips and other components. CEO Rene Haas discussed the possibility of moving beyond designs and building chiplets - smaller, function-specific versions of a chip that are stitched together - and complete systems. The company, which is majority-owned by the SoftBank Group , collects royalty payments on the chips its customers sell. Arm-based devices power nearly every smartphone in the world and server chips based on its intellectual property have made significant inroads in the data center market long dominated by Advanced Micro Devices and Intel. As part of a broad plan to increase its business, Arm has sought to expand beyond supplying crucial chip intellectual property to building its own complete designs. Reuters first reported on the company's plans outlined in sealed exhibits from a December trial, and its effort to hire executives from rivals in February. In recent years, Arm has sought to bolster its teams focused on building complete chips and systems. The company has hired Nicolas Dube, an executive from HPE with large-scale systems design experience, and Steve Halter, a chip engineer from Intel and Qualcomm, as part of the effort, the person familiar with the matter said. Sinno's effort at Amazon was part of the company's effort to design chips that would be cheaper and offer superior performance to Nvidia's graphics processors used for AI work.
