Serious crash in north Regina sees car split power pole in half

The wrecked vehicle appeared to have sheered a power pole off at its base before colliding with another. (Gareth Dillistone/CTV News) The Regina Police Service (RPS) has shut down the area of 6th Avenue North and Smith Street following a serious crash. Traffic is shut down in all directions near the site of the crash, according to an advisory issued just after 6 a.m. Thursday. Photos from the scene show a heavily damaged vehicle lying on its side. Behind it, a power pole is sheered off at its base - leaving the power line above dangling. RPS asks the public to avoid 6th Avenue North between Albert Street and Cornwall Street and to find an alternate route. Police provided no other details pertaining to the crash, including the status of the driver. Drivers asked to avoid Lewvan Dr. and Regina Ave. after pedestrian collision

(David Prisciak/CTV News) The Regina Police Service (RPS) is on scene of a collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Lewvan Drive and Regina Avenue. According to the service, the crash occurred in the intersection's northbound lanes. The pedestrian was taken to hospital by paramedics with only minor injuries, police say. Northbound traffic has been diverted onto Regina Avenue – while travellers westbound on Regina Avenue are being diverted at Pasqua Street. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes. The service said updates will be provided when they are available.
