Independiente beat Boca 1-0 to reach Apertura semi-finals
Independiente, who will play Huracan for a spot in the final, struggled in the first half but came alive in the second with Angulo sealing the victory with a superb finish just after the hour-mark at La Bombonera.
As Boca looked to make a quick break from an Independiente corner, the Colombian intercepted the ball and raced back into the box before slipping inside defender Ayrton Costa and firing high over the goalkeeper's head.
Boca had a goal ruled out for offside in the 15th minute and squandered a golden opportunity towards the end of the first half when Miguel Merentiel's whipped cross found Carlos Palacios all alone in front of goal but he somehow missed the tap-in.
Boca next face Atletico Tucuman in the Copa Argentina before starting their Club World Cup campaign in the United States. REUTERS

German Cup is shortest road to a title, Dortmund coach Kovac says
BERLIN -Borussia Dortmund must kick off their German Cup campaign with a commanding performance against third-tier club Rot-Weiss Essen on Monday, with the domestic competition being the shortest path to a title, coach Niko Kovac said on Friday. Dortmund are starting the domestic season with Monday's first round match while their opponents already have two third-division league matches under their belt. "We want to advance. We are playing a third division club, playing away, with a good atmosphere," Kovac told a press conference. "We will have to work but we have clear goals of advancing. The shortest way to the title is the German Cup." Dortmund will also be competing in this season's Champions League after finishing fourth last season. The Bundesliga season kicks off next week with Dortmund travelling to St Pauli in eight days. "It is always an advantage if you have two competitive matches under your belt," said the coach of their Cup opponents Essen. "We are now in the third training week. I am not saying we don't have an advantage. Quite the opposite. But they have already played (a couple of) 90 consecutive minutes." Kovac's Dortmund had a shortened preparation this season after reaching the quarter-finals in the Club World Cup in the United States in July. "We would have wished a couple of more weeks of preparation work. We are happy to have been part of the Club World Cup ... and there are no alibis. We know of the responsibility we have," he said. Colwill picked up the injury in training and has undergone successful surgery, with the 22-year-old England international expected to miss much of the new season. It typically takes some six to nine months for a player to recover from an ACL injury and return to action, leaving Chelsea without a key figure in their backline. With the close-season transfer window closing on September 1 for Premier League clubs, Maresca was not ruling out further incomings at Stamford Bridge. The West London club have been active in the transfer market, signing Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato, Liam Delap, Estevao Willian, among others. "We have a fantastic squad. We are happy with the squad we have, no doubt. When the transfer window is open, anything can happen," the Italian, who will enter his second season at Chelsea, said. "We are a better team compared to one year ago because we worked together every day for one season."
