Edmonton weather: Temperatures near record highs today and Friday
We hit 29.8 C for a high Thursday in the city and should be a couple degrees hotter in the coming days.
I'm going with highs of 31 C today, 32 C Friday and 30 C Saturday.
That'll put us close to the record highs for those dates...although I think today is our best chance.
Here are those record highs:
31.3 in 2021 - July 31
33.3 in 1922 - Aug. 1
33.9 in 1922 - Aug. 2
Mainly sunny skies continue to dominate the Edmonton area and most of the province for the next few days.
BUT...we'll (once again) see some scattered thunderstorms developing in the foothills this afternoon and possibly in NW Alberta tonight.
Friday looks slightly more interesting with a high potential for some thunderstorms (possibly severe) in the Edson/Whitecourt/Swan Hills regions.
At this point...it looks like all of that will stay west of Edmonton.
The weekend setup is packed with uncertainty in regards to timing, location and intensity of showers/thunderstorms.
Bottom line: I think we'll probably see at least SOME scattered showers/thunderstorms in the Edmonton region. But, it doesn't look like we're in for a complete washout.
The heat sticks around for Saturday and the thunderstorm risk doesn't come until the evening/late-night hours.
Sunday and Monday are still warm (highs in the mid 20s) and we're looking at a 'Mix of sun & cloud' for most of the daytime hours with about a 40 per cent chance of a few scattered showers.
Elsewhere around the province:
Showers and thunderstorms in the foothills and in NW Alberta Friday afternoon/evening.
Rain in southern Alberta and the southern mountain parks on Sunday.
Rain in eastern Alberta on Monday.
Here's the forecast for Edmonton and area:
