MONTREAL, May 7, 2025 /CNW/ - Belron ® Canada is proud to announce Tony Cioffi as its next President. Michel Savard, who has been Belron Canada's President since 2022, has made the decision to retire on July 31, 2025.
Michel Savard joined Belron Canada 15 years ago as Vice President, Retail Operations. He transformed the business over his tenure by building high-performing teams, focusing on great execution and instilling ambitious standards. Through the years, he took on added responsibilities, including Wholesale Operations, Supply Chain and Franchising which prepared him to take on the presidency in 2022.
Under Michel Savard's leadership, Belron Canada has evolved and strengthened its numerous business relationships with key partners such as insurers, fleet card companies, and key providers in the glass and automotive industry. Top this off with record employee engagement scores, outstanding Net Promoter Scores, record participation in the Spirit of Belron Challenge, the first win at the International Best of Belron competition, and unprecedented financial results. The legacy that Michel Savard is leaving behind will serve as a solid foundation for the continued success of the organization.
"Tony is a dynamic, well-rounded leader with an impressive background, who will bring a lot to Belron Canada," said Savard. "He has a deep understanding of retail operations, and we are confident that the future of the company is in good hands with Tony."
Since joining Belron Canada in 2023, Tony Cioffi has held the position of Vice President, Finance and Administration. During this time, he has led the strategic plan to continue to grow the business and has also led acquisition activities, closing four acquisitions in 12 months.

Michel Savard will be transitioning with Tony Cioffi over the next three months until he retires.

Amid ongoing economic tensions between Canada and the United States, a survey released Thursday shows patience is wearing thin among Canadians, with almost 80 per cent disapproving of the current leadership in that country. The survey, conducted by Gallup in May and June of 2025, shows Canadians have a 15 per cent approval rating for the U.S. leadership — the lowest U.S. President Donald Trump has received, and down from 17 per cent in 2020 and 16 per cent in 2018 during his first term. The Gallup World Poll, which started in 2005, measures the attitudes, behaviour and well-being of people across more than 140 countries. Of the five major global powers in the study, Canadians' disapproval rating of the U.S. (79 per cent) fell roughly in line with that of Russia (82 per cent) and was worse than that of China (64 per cent). Gallup says the trend is consistent with changes in U.S. administrations, and cites an average 61 per cent approval rating of Washington by Canadians under former president Barack Obama, 19 per cent in Trump's first term, and 41 per cent under former president Joe Biden. Trump has imposed repeated rounds of steep tariffs on Canada since coming into office in January and has frequently suggested Canada should become the '51st state.' The Gallup survey is the latest of several recent polls, which show Canadians are frustrated amid the trade war uncertainty. 2:11 'Buy Canadian' movement boosts small business across country Another poll conducted in June by Ipsos, exclusively for Global News, found roughly three-quarters of Canadians intend to avoid travel to the U.S., which is up 10 per cent since February. This sentiment has also been demonstrated in data released by Statistics Canada. Story continues below advertisement The Ipsos poll also found nearly three-quarters of Canadians are avoiding buying goods that are made in the U.S., and are buying more Canadian-made goods wherever possible. Meanwhile, Canadians may be feeling more optimistic about their own leadership as of late, according to the Gallup poll, with a 59 per cent approval rating in 2025 — up 19 per cent from the previous year. This follows Mark Carney replacing Justin Trudeau as Canadian prime minister. Carney is still working on a new trade deal with the U.S. as tariffs rise, but said that he will only accept a deal that is 'good for Canada.'

The federal government is committed to removing those barriers, because building a strong, resilient economy is only possible when all women can participate and thrive. Today, the Honourable Rechie Valdez, Minister of Women and Gender Equality and Secretary of State (Small Business and Tourism), along with Chi Nguyen, Member of Parliament for Spadina—Harbourfront, announced $656,053 for Realize. Their project, Breaking Barriers and Shaping Inclusive Workplaces for Women with Episodic Disabilities, will tackle the systemic obstacles that keep women with episodic disabilities from achieving their full potential in the workforce. Through training opportunities, employer engagement, and community-building initiatives, this project will challenge harmful gender norms and attitudes, strengthen workplace policies, and expand opportunities for employment and career advancement. Fostering greater understanding of the unique needs of women living with episodic health conditions in the workplace is essential to an economy that works for everyone." Melissa Egan, Co-Director, National Programs, Realize Quick facts As complex chronic illnesses with disabling impacts, episodic disabilities are unpredictable in their length, severity, and occurrence. Examples include long-COVID, multiple sclerosis, lupus, arthritis, HIV, diabetes, mental health conditions and many others. This translates into millions of women in Canada impacted by episodic disabilities facing uncertainty and often exclusion when it comes to work and income. Statistics Canada's Survey Series on Accessibility (SSA) reported in 2024 that nearly three in five (59%) persons with disabilities or long-term conditions experienced a labour market-related barrier to accessibility. Types of barriers include those experienced at work or during a hiring process, or those that discouraged or prevented one from working due to their conditions. People with disabilities tend to have lower participation in the workforce and subsequently lower personal income, compared to those without disabilities. They are less likely to experience financial security and more likely to live in poverty than people without disabilities. In 2022, women in Canada (43%) were more likely than men (39%) to have severe or very severe disabilities. With strike looming, jobs minister asks union to respond to Air Canada's arbitration request

With Air Canada expected to address its negotiations with its flight attendant union this morning, the federal jobs minister says she has asked the Canada Union of Public Employees to respond to the airline's request for binding arbitration. I have met with both parties throughout the bargaining process and strongly urged them to come to an agreement, Minister Patty Hajdu wrote on X. Air Canada submitted a request that I make a referral under Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code to send the parties to binding arbitration. I have asked the union to respond to the employer's request. Earlier this week, Air Canada sent a proposal to CUPE that the parties use binding interest arbitration to come to an agreement as they negotiate the renewal of a 10-year collective agreement for more than 10,000 flight attendants. CUPE declined to use arbitration, a process in which an outside arbitrator would hear proposals from each side about specific agenda items that haven't been agreed upon and then make a decision that would bind both parties. Air Canada said earlier this week that it would start cancelling flights on Thursday to mitigate the impact of a potential strike that could start on Saturday just before 1 a.m. ET. Canadian travellers have been anxiously waiting for news of cancelled flights. But as of 10 a.m. ET, both Air Canada's daily outlook and the flight tracking website FlightAware didn't show mass cancellations. Air Canada executives Arielle Meloul-Wechsler and Mark Nasr are expected to address media outside the Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel at 10:30 a.m. ET. CBC News will carry the livestream on this page.
