Ange Postecoglou's future as Tottenham manager is yet to be confirmed but talks with another Premier League boss suggest that Daniel Levy has already made his decision
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou insists that he's planning for the future with Spurs, despite claims that Daniel Levy has decided to sack him. Postecoglou, 59, ended Tottenham's 17-year trophy drought earlier this month, as they beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final.
But it came off the back of a disastrous Premier League season. Spurs finished one place above the relegation zone, losing an astonishing 22 league games.
It was the most defeats any side has suffered in a 38-game Premier League campaign without being relegated and marked Tottenham's worst top-flight finish in 48 years. But Postecoglou is looking ahead to his third year in charge, even though it's been reported that chairman Levy is ready to wield the axe.
Spurs are said to have held talks with Brentford manager Thomas Frank over becoming their new boss. Fulham manager Marco Silva and Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola are also in contention.
It comes after Postecoglou told fans at Tottenham's Europa League victory parade that for all the best TV shows: "Season three is better than season two."
What did he mean by that? "I didn't want us to just enjoy the moment," he revealed to the Australian Story ahead of a new documentary which was televised on Sunday evening in Australia. "I also wanted us to think about what's next, you know - don't settle for this.
"We've got a taste of it now. My players have got a taste for it. The club's got a taste for it. Well, let's make sure we're back here again."
Postecoglou has previously labelled media speculation over his future ' weird '. "I'll be honest, I've been finding it really weird talking about my future when we've done something unprecedented," the Aussie-Greek manager told reporters after Spurs lost 4-1 at home to Brighton on the final day.
"I've had to answer the questions because no one else at the club is kind of in the position to do so, I guess. But I can't answer that question about me and my future, and part of me is kind of thinking, well, why have I been asked that question? But it is what it is.
"And I've got no doubt, though, that this could be a real sort of defining moment for this club because wherever I've been, I've kind of made an impact where I've brought success to a club that hasn't had for a while, and you just have to look at those clubs' trajectory even after I've left, they're still competing for things.
"I really think this is a moment in time where this club can really push on and be a real contender for honours on a yearly basis."

Manchester United 's part-owner could not have believed his luck when Al-Hilal offered to take captain Fernandes, who turns 31 in September, off their hands and give the Red Devils a much-needed cash injection. 3 3 Ratcliffe, who claimed the 'bloated' club was set to go 'bust at Christmas', has led a ruthless cost-cutting drive at Old Trafford — culling 450 staff including the much-loved receptionists and also withdrew free canteen food for workers at the ground. So to have the potential of receiving a nine-figure sum for a player whose legs are only going to get wearier was almost too good to be true. If Fernandes remains at United then club legend Gary Neville believes Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho must all leave. Bruno Fernandes ‘wants to stay at the highest level' as he turns down Saudi move
The 30-year-old midfielder has been the subject of speculation linking him with a £100million switch to Al Hilal, with the Saudi Pro League side reportedly prepared to pay him £700,000 per week. However, Fernandes confirmed he had rejected the chance to move after speaking to Ruben Amorim and his family. 'The president of Al Hilal called me a month ago to ask about the possibility of me moving there,' Fernandes told a Portugal press conference, according to Portuguese outlet O Jogo. 'I had to wait a while to think about the future. As I've always said, I would be willing to do it if United thought it was best to move on. 'I spoke with Ruben Amorim, who really tried to talk me out of it. 'I spoke to the club, who said they weren't willing to sell me, only if I wanted to leave. 'From my side, it was a very ambitious proposal, the president was a fantastic person. I never talked about the money, it ended up coming up later, with my agent. 'I had to make the decision as a family and understand what I wanted for my future. That was the question my wife asked, what my professional goals would be. At no point did she say yes or no, she always supported me and put my professional side first. 'It was an easy move, even at a family level. I had Ruben Neves, Joao Cancelo. My children are used to playing with theirs. 'But I simply want to stay at the highest level, playing in the big competitions, because I still feel capable of that. 'I want to continue to be happy and do what I love most. I'm still very passionate about this sport. It's my way of seeing football and I'm happy with my decision.' As rumours of Fernandes' decision circulated earlier in the day, former United and England defender Gary Neville welcomed the reports as Amorim starts the process of reshaping his squad following a dismal season.
