Primark's 'chic' £14 bag looks 'so similar' to £2,700 Loewe style

Daily Mirror24-05-2025
Primark shoppers can save £2,000 on a 'pretty' £14 style that looks similar to a designer bag
Primark is selling a "pretty" £14 bag that resembles a designer style. The retailer is a firm favourite with high street shoppers looking for affordable fashion and accessories, and the Ruched Chain Strap Pouch Bag could be a new crowd-pleaser.
The £14 Primark pouch bag is available in ecru or burgundy, and the red style looks similar to a pricier alternative by designer brand Loewe. However, Loewe's Medium Flamenco purse in mellow nappa lambskin is priced much higher at £2,700.

The designer style is available in more than ten colours, including a sea salt shade comparable to Primark's ecru bag, though the burnt red arguably looks the most similar to Primark's offering. The bags are very similar in design, with a deep red tone, rouched shape, knot detailing, and gold chain.

However, the Loewe chain is red and gold, whereas the Primark chain is only one colour. The Loewe bag has a detachable leather strap, and it is made from nappa lambskin with suede lining.
Conversely, Primark's bag is finished with a leather-look effect, but it is made from 50 per cent polyester and 50 per cent polyurethane. Primark's product description explains: "Summer style? It's in the bag! Upgrade your new season accessories edit with this pretty pouch bag.
"Made from a soft faux leather, this bag has a luxe look and feel that's perfect for evenings spent out on the town. The pouch style is super chic, meanwhile the gold-toned chain strap handle adds to its polished look and feel. A must-have piece you'll reach for on repeat, it's here to carry you through this season and beyond!"
Loewe's product description says: "The Flamenco purse is a lightweight and soft bag with a ruched shape, historical knot drawstrings and a donut chain. This medium version is crafted in mellow nappa lambskin."
The designer brand also offers a Mini Flamenco purse in mellow nappa lambskin for £2,200 and a Large Flamenco purse in mellow nappa lambskin for £3,200.

While the listing for the Primark bag does not include dimensions, it is at least £2,000 cheaper than each designer bag. You can check availability at your nearest store here.
Alternatively, shoppers looking for a similar style from another retailer might prefer Dune London's Leather Drawstring Bag, on offer from £159 to £79. While it looks similar to both the Primark and Loewe bags, it differs in that it is made from leather but has a recycled synthetic lining, and there are other design differences.
Dune London's product description says: "Slouchy styles are always sought after, so snap up Primrose L today and treat yourself to a shoulder bag with effortless charm. Boasting a magnetic closure, elegant gold-tone chain details and multiple straps, it's a versatile addition to your accessories edit."

TOTAL: £96.97 I AM all for a bargain, but these days it's difficult unless you shop in the sale aisles. While I can't bag a dress for under £20 like I used to, there are lots of great budget brands. This dress in particular screams summer, with a pale blue shell and starfish pattern, and its stretchy fabric makes it very comfortable. It's fully lined and has a lace trim around the neckline, which makes it feel more expensive. Deichmann has some great bags and this woven one is just £22.99. I finish off the look with some raffia platform heels from Asos and some gold jewellery. I always look for standout pieces at affordable prices, and this co-ord from Mango looks so premium – it really makes a statement. The print is bold and looks designer. The deep cuffs on the shirt add a touch of luxury, and it's so light and airy that it's perfect for the heatwave. But the real joy of this outfit is that I would wear it in the city for the office, yet I'd also throw it on over a bikini on holiday. Now that's a real bargain. The boho trend is back again this summer and I couldn't resist this set from Primark. I love the frill sleeved and tiered detailing and the skirt has an elasticated waist. Co-ords are a smart choice because you can wear them either as a set or style each piece separately – making them versatile pieces. This skirt is a perfect addition to my autumn wardrobe and I've added a raffia bucket hat and super comfortable wedges from New Look, plus a cute bag from TU at Sainsbury's. TOTAL: £93. FINDING an outfit under £100 that genuinely looks good is tricky, but the high street has stepped up. I always look for unique details, like the frayed hems on this Boohoo blazer and trousers – it really sets them apart from the usual tailoring. The boxy blazer and wide-leg trousers have a premium feel, too. When I first tried it on, my reaction was 'I can't believe that's Boohoo.' Attention to detail makes all the difference. With my go-to gold bangles and heeled sandals with gold detailing, I'm set. Unlock even more award-winning articles as The Sun launches brand new membership programme - Sun Club.

Colour psychology – the shade that makes you most attractive & 2 ‘forgettable' hues you should never wear on a date

CHOOSING what to wear on a date can be tricky - but maybe you should be paying more attention to the colour than the style. A Personal Stylist and Colour Theorist has revealed the surprising psychology of colour when it comes to first impressions, attraction, and yes, getting a second date. 5 5 Donna Cameron, who teamed up with Fashion brand Gingham & Heels, shared: 'Clothing is communication. 'And colour is one of the most powerful parts of that. 'If you feel awkward in what you're wearing, it shows. But if you feel great, it shows even more.' So which ones will give you the greatest chance of success on a date… AVOID RED Red might be the universal colour of love, but according to the leading colour theorist, wearing it on a first date could be a mistake. While red is linked to power and passion, Donna said it is 'risky' and doesn't suit everyone. It could also send the wrong message, as it is linked to 'power'. EYE COLOUR TRICK A simple but powerful trick to appear more magnetic is to wear your eye colour, as it 'draws people in instantly.' Donna shared: 'The best colour to wear on a date really depends on your individual colouring. 'But a simple tip? Wear the colour of your eyes as it always makes them pop and draws people in. Primark's mini dress is a copy of a £135 designer version - it'll give you a gorgeous hourglass figure & perfect for date night 'Blue-eyed? Try navy or sky blue. Brown-eyed? Earthy browns or bronze tones are flattering.' MAGIC COLOURS The Colour Theorist said there are some colours which 'flatter almost everyone.' Donna added: 'Warm blues, teals, aquas, and turquoises suit almost everyone. 'They're that sweet spot between warm and cool tones, like denim, and they go with everything.' BE CAREFUL WITH BLACK 5 While black might seem like a safe bet, it's not necessarily ideal. Black isn't banned, but if styled wrong, it can age you or make you seem closed off. Donna shared: 'Black is elegant, yes, but it can also be heavy or draining, especially as we age. 'To wear it well, you usually need more makeup, and you need to consider texture and silhouette.' FORGETTABLE HUES So what's worse than black? Grey and beige may make you blend in too much and be 'forgettable.' 'Muted greys and washed-out neutrals,' says Donna. 'They often signal that someone doesn't want to stand out, which isn't the message you want to send on a first date.' COLOURS TO AVOID 5 Donna also warns against divisive shades like orange and purple. She said: 'People tend to love them or hate them; there's not much middle ground. And that strong reaction might not work in your favour.' However, the stylist said that despite this, she said it is most important to opt for colours that make you feel good. She added: 'Wear colours that make you feel good. Confidence is always the best outfit.' DRESS FOR YOUR VIBE Beyond just matching your personal colouring, Donna suggests thinking about the vibe you want to give off. 'If you're going for a soft, feminine feel, light pastel tones are perfect,' she says. 'Want to come across as elegant and put-together? 'Try deeper shades like burgundy or olive. 'And if you're aiming for something more fun and high-energy, bright, bold colours can help you look more open and approachable.'
