KWAP Extends Community Outreach With Santuni MADANI Programme In Kampung Kandis
BACHOK, May 16 (Bernama) -- Kampung Kandis here has been selected for the 'Satu Pemimpin, Satu Kampung' (Santuni MADANI) programme by the Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP), based on its social development needs and potential to empower rural communities through multi-stakeholder collaboration.
Kampung Kandis is one of eight villages in Mukim Kandis, which has a total population of about 4,000 residents.
Among the initial initiatives carried out under the programme was the handover of a hearse for the use of local residents, as well as the distribution of 100 MyPesara Prihatin packs containing basic necessities to government retirees, the asnaf, and the underprivileged.
The hearse was donated through wakalah zakat (tithe) funds, contributed via income tithe payments by KWAP employees to the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council's Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ-MAIWP).
The programme drew more than 500 local residents and featured various activities involving KWAP staff, fostering community spirit, unity and a sense of togetherness.
KWAP chief executive officer Datuk Hajah Nik Amlizan Mohamed said that, in addition to social assistance, the agency planned to continue implementing the programme in stages throughout the year, involving strategic collaboration with various parties, including the Kelantan State Education Department, Bachok District Education Office, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, non-governmental organisations and pensioner associations.
'KWAP views social responsibility as a long-term investment in national development. Such initiatives not only benefit the local community but also strengthen ties between organisations like us and the people, in support of the Malaysia MADANI spirit,' she said.
Nik Amlizan also expressed appreciation for the support and cooperation of the village head and school headmasters in the Bachok district, whom she described as key drivers of the programme's success.
'It is hoped that more parties will join in such efforts for mutual benefit,' she said.

Over 1,000 slaughter permits for Penang
GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Veterinary Services Department has issued 1,056 Permit Sembelihan Luar (PSL), which are permits to slaughter animals outside an approved slaughterhouse, throughout the state in conjunction with this year's Hari Raya Aidiladha. Its director Dr Saira Banu Mohamed Rejab said the PSL application started on May 21 and ended on Thursday. 'The PSL involves a total number of animals to be sacrificed, namely 3,363 cows, 19 buffaloes, 777 goats, 56 sheep and five camels in five districts in Penang,' she told Bernama. Saira Banu added that the approval was granted under the Animals (Control of Slaughter) Rules 2009. She reminded those involved in the implementation of the sacrificial ritual to always comply with the law. Saira Banu said the important aspects that need to be adhered to include all outdoor slaughtering must have a valid permit from the state department, the slaughtering process must be carried out in a clean area, have good drainage facilities and does not disturb public order. Muslims in Malaysia will celebrate Aidiladha today.

City mosques gearing up for Aidiladha

Every detail, from logistics to personnel involved, is thoroughly examined to ensure the ritual is carried out smoothly and in compliance with religious requirements. Imam of Masjid Negara (National Mosque) Mohd Nadzri Mustakim told Bernama that they prioritise the health of staff members involved in the process to ensure a smooth and safe slaughter ritual. 'We designate spots to carry out the slaughtering, maintain the tools, obtain permits for cattle and goats and clean the surrounding areas. 'The main prayer hall has also been prepared to accommodate the congregants,' he said. Mohd Nadzri added that the management strives to adhere to the standard operating procedures set by the religious authorities, including the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim). He said the sacrificial ritual at Masjid Negara will be carried out over two days, with 19 goats and sheep to be slaughtered after the special prayer today, while 10 head of cattle will be sacrificed tomorrow starting 8am. Masjid Amru Ibni Al-'As in Bandar Baru Sentul near here is set to slaughter 10 head of cattle specially ordered from Kelantan, according to its imam, Zulfahmi Samsudin. He said the mosque management has set up teams to ensure the smooth running of the sacrificial ritual, including a technical team in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur City Hall and other agencies. Meanwhile, city folk are bustling with Aidiladha preparations, thronging public markets as early as 6am yesterday to buy ingredients to cook festive dishes. Azhar Salleh, 60, a coconut milk trader at Dato Keramat market, said his stall began operating at 2am instead of 8am to make it easier for his customers. Civil servant Noraini Gafar, 38, who had taken leave to prepare, said she and her daughter arrived early at the market, but there was already a large crowd. 'It was crowded, but I was relieved that the items I needed were still available,' she said.

Sombre Aidiladha for victims of Putra Heights gas pipeline fire
SUBANG JAYA: As Muslims across the country are looking forward to celebrating Hari Raya Aidiladha today, residents of Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru in Puchong, whose homes were destroyed in the gas pipeline inferno on April 2, must summon the strength to face the day. Although the familiar aroma of ketupat and rendang does not fill their kitchens this year, they remain grateful to have survived the tragedy. Mohamad Nasir Ab Hamid, 69, said that sheer will and determination have been his family's main source of strength in forging ahead despite now living with minimal means after losing most of their belongings in the incident. "Alhamdulillah, my family and I are grateful to be alive and to have received support from the community and various parties. However, I hope the recovery process, particularly the promised rebuilding of our home, can be expedited so that life can return to normal," he told Bernama. A Bernama check revealed that Mohamad Nasir's house was without a roof, except for the garage, and the interior was devoid of furniture or electrical appliances, which the intense heat from the fire had destroyed. Mohamad Nasir lives in the house alone, sleeping in the garage on a mattress he received from the temporary relief centre. "Although I received financial assistance to rent a house, I feel more comfortable staying in my own home as I can also keep an eye on what's left of my belongings while my wife and four of our children occupy the rented house," he said, expressing hope that the government would expedite the repair process for all victims' homes. Ahmad Danial, 25, said that their lives are no longer the same, especially with the lingering trauma still deeply affecting the entire family. "There are no major preparations (for Aidiladha). The house is still in ruins, making it difficult to gather comfortably with the family. We are relying on donations from local associations and neighbours," he said, adding that he lost his job following the incident. Meanwhile, Ahmad Kamarul Meskam, 42, expressed despair for not being able to gather with his siblings for Aidiladha after their mother's house was destroyed in the incident. He said before the fire, they lived in the same village. "We have no plans to celebrate Aidiladha since we are now living in separate areas.," he said, admitting that the tragedy has left a profound emotional impact. It is understood that the Kampung Sungai Baru Residents Association will hold a sacrificial ritual in conjunction with Aidiladha on Sunday on a plot of land in the village, thanks to donations of several cows and goats from an anonymous benefactor. The gas pipeline fire, which occurred at 8.10 am, saw flames shoot 30 metres high, with temperatures reaching 1,000 degrees Celsius and took nearly eight hours to be completely extinguished. The fire resulted in 81 houses being destroyed, with more than 40 per cent of the structures sustaining structural damage. Additionally, 81 houses were categorised as partially destroyed, 57 houses were affected but not burned, and 218 houses remained unaffected. – BERNAMA
