Steelers send T.J. Watt to Commanders in wild trade hypothetical
The Steelers–T.J. Watt contract woes could carry on for a while longer — but what if Pittsburgh refuses to play along and cuts their losses before an agreement is reached?
That is precisely the scenario fantasized by Fox Sports' David Helman — who was tasked with finding the best landing spots for each of the NFL minicamp holdouts.
According to Helman, while the idea of Pittsburgh sending Watt to the Commanders is highly unlikely, Washington's desperate need for a pass rush warrants the projection. He even acknowledged that trading star WR Terry McLaurin would open more 'financial wiggle room' for the Commanders to add a player of Watt's caliber.
When discussing how the Steelers star defender would fit into the Commanders' defense, Helman argued the following:
"Adding [Watt] to a pass rush that currently includes Frankie Luvu, Dorance Armstrong, Deatrich Wise, and Clelin Ferrell would upgrade the Washington pass rush from 'so-so' to outright dangerous."
Watt could turn the Commanders into instant Super Bowl contenders — but unless Washington offered McLaurin and a haul of premium draft picks, trading away a future Hall of Fame defender feels like an on-field recipe for disaster — and a PR nightmare waiting to happen.

Jaden Akins looking for next opportunity following being unselected in NBA Draft
Former Spartan Jaden Akins went unselected in NBA Draft this week -- so what's next for him? Here's the latest on Akins What's next for former Spartans star Jaden Akins? That's still an unanswered question following the NBA Draft. Akins went unselected during the 2025 NBA Draft this week, with the lone Spartan selected being Jase Richardson by the Orlando Magic with the No. 25 overall pick. Akins wasn't expected to be selected in the two rounds of the NBA Draft, but there was always an outside chance someone would take a flier on him. So what's next for Akins now? Well, we should be seeing him picked up by a team as an undrafted free agent ahead of the NBA summer league. Oddly, though, we haven't seen Akins sign anywhere yet -- which I personally expected to happen by the end of the weekend. Akins started all 72 of the Spartans' games over the last two seasons, averaging double-digits in scoring in both years and providing stellar defensive presence as well. He is slightly undersized for the NBA, though, which ultimately hurt his professional stock in the NBA. Akins worked out for a few teams during the pre-draft process, including the Utah Jazz and Milwaukee Bucks, so we should keep our eyes out for either of those teams signing him for summer league play. I anticipate he will be getting a chance to show what he has at the next level during summer league, and we should hopefully hear of a signing in the next week. One Chargers draft pick seen as one of the best in the 21st century
The Chargers have hit on a handful of players through the draft over the years, with the likes of Justin Herbert, Derwin James, and Rashawn Slater, among others. However, according to Bleacher Report, there hasn't been a pick as good as Drew Brees, who was selected 32nd overall in the 2001 NFL draft. Brees checked in at No. 4 on the list of the best draft selections from the first quarter of the 21st century. One of the most decorated and productive players in the history of the sport was overshadowed by Michael Vick, LaDainian Tomlinson and 29 others before finally going to San Diego in '01. During his five years with the Bolts, Brees started in 58 games and passed for 12,348 yards, 80 touchdowns and 53 interceptions. After hurting his shoulder in 2005, the team lost all confidence in Brees, leading to the decision to let him walk in free agency. He then signed with the Saints, where he would spend the next 15 years of his career. Brees went on to win a Super Bowl (XLIV), be named the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year twice (2008, 2011), and earn 13 trips to the Pro Bowl. Brees finished as the NFL's all-time leader in career passing yards (80,358) and ranked No. 2 in touchdown passes (571) and completion percentage (67.7%). All in all, Brees is an all-time great quarterback and is one of the best players in Chargers history, despite his time with the team being cut short. LaDainian Tomlinson deserved to be on this list, but Bleacher Report excluded players who were drafted in the top 10, and Tomlinson was selected fifth overall.

Cowboys Wideout Viewed as 'Major Player' in NFC East Race
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Coming off a shaky tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers, George Pickens finds himself with a change of scenery. As he prepares for this next chapter of his career, one analyst thinks he can have a major impact on one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL right now. During the offseason, the Dallas Cowboys decided to roll the dice on Pickens in an attempt to bolster the offense. Despite his off-field drama, he is still one of the most skilled receivers in the league. Landing in Dallas is a good situation for Pickens, as he's joining a pass-heavy offense led by a high-level quarterback in Dak Prescott. Though his production took a slight dip in 2024, many believe Pickens has the potential to be an impactful piece for the Cowboys this season. While appearing on SportsCenter over the weekend, Jeremy Fowler opened up on how Pickens could help sway things in an air-tight NFC East. George Pickens #14 of the Pittsburgh Steelers celebrates after making a catch against the Carolina Panthers during the second quarter of the game at Bank of America Stadium on December 18, 2022 in Charlotte, North... "People I've talked to in that division feel like he can tilt the field for Dallas and he'll be a major player. Because he is one of the best contested catchers in the league, body contortive things downfield, so he gives them a new dimension. The issue really in Pittsburgh was really the maturity issues and some of those problems there, but a lot of it stems with Pickens wanting to get the ball, and wanting the offense to move properly, having the passing game humming. And so Dallas has that with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb already. So he's walking into a good situation." Also read: Kevin Durant Utters Bold Statement on Cowboys Star Micah Parsons With Prescott returning from injury this season, the Cowboys are primed to get back in the hunt in the NFC. This will be no small feat, as their division is going to be as competitive as it's been in recent memory. The Philadelphia Eagles are in a strong position to repeat as champions, and the Washington Commanders will want to get back to the conference championship. Knowing this, the Cowboys made sure to bolster their cast of offensive weapons around Prescott, most notably by acquiring Pickens. Playing alongside CeeDee Lamb, Pickens is going to have endless opportunities to make defenses pay. If he's able to keep his focus on the field, he could emerge as an X-factor for Dallas and help them compete in the loaded NFC East. For more Dallas Cowboys and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.
