Man Utd's Alejandro Garnacho exit plan halted by transfer refusal
Bayern Munich have failed with a loan bid to land Christopher Nkunku - which has been rejected by Chelsea as they seek to raise funds for their pursuit of Alejandro Garnacho.
The Manchester United winger is one of two forwards who are being eyed by the Blues - alongside RB Leipzig 's Xavi Simons. And as a result they are not looking to sanction any temporary exits which has seen them reject the German's approach for the Frenchman.
Those at Old Trafford are willing to sanction Garnacho's departure with the Argentine falling out of favour. The player himself is keen on a move away to reignite his career and sees Stamford Bridge as the ideal destination.
However his move is contingent on a transfer merry-go-round that needs Chelsea to raise capital to continue their recruitment. As a result they have told Bayern, who want to bring Nkunku back to the Bundesliga, that they only want a permanent sale, reports The Times.
Bayern remain interested in Nkunku as they need to bolster their attack following the sale Kingsley Coman to Al-Nassr on Friday. But given that they and Chelsea want two different deals, any movement is currently unlikely.
Inter Milan are also thought to be interested in Nkunku, but again they have been told that they would need to pursue a permanent move. Leipzig previously considered an approach, but the player is not interest in a return to his former club given they not qualify for the Champions League this season.
Nkunku has four years remaining on his contract after joining the Blues in the summer of 2023. He made a £52million switch from Leipzig after scoring 58 times in two seasons. At Chelsea though he's scored just 18 times in 62 games.
United remain keen on sell Garnacho and are prepared for an offer from Chelsea. Any sale would be beneficial for those in Manchester as the Argentine, an academy graduate, would represent pure profit, which would aid their PSR figures.
Jadon Sancho is another player they want to offload. He, like Garnacho, appears to have little future at Old Trafford currently but he's turned down a move to Roma. The Italians were willing to pay £17m but the winger is still waiting to review his options having been linked with several clubs.

Rangers' injury 'concern' revealed as Nicolas Raskin rumours and Jayden Meghoma status addressed

Rangers manager Russell Martin has revealed Cyriel Dessers is a major doubt to feature in the club's biggest game of the season so far as the Ibrox side prepare to face Club Brugge in a Champions League play-off first leg in Glasgow. It had been hoped that the striker, who hurt his ankle in last week's defeat to Viktoria Plzen, would recover in time to face the Belgians in the first match of a two-legged shootout to reach the Champions League on Tuesday. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad As much as £40 million is estimated to be riding on the tie. Martin all but confirmed after Saturday's League Cup win over Alloa Athletic that Hamza Igamane is not a contender to start due to lack of fitness. It leaves Brazilian striker Danilo, who has yet to score this season, as the likeliest option to lead the line against Brugge as Rangers seek to establish an advantage to take to Belgium next week. Cyriel Dessers picked up an injury for Rangers last week against Viktoria Plzen. | SNS Group 'Big Cyriel is probably the only concern,' Martin said. 'He'll be touch and go. He's responded really well to treatment. It was nowhere near as bad as we first feared. So if it's not tomorrow, we expect him to be back for the weekend (v St Mirren) and next week.' Martin expressed his hope that new loan signing Jayden Meghoma from Brentford will be eligible to play and so the left-back could feature. 'I think he's going to be registered in time for tomorrow's match,' he said. 'We hope so anyway, so we'll have to wait and see. But yeah, that's the hope, that he can be in the squad. He trained today and yesterday so we'll see if he's ready to go.' The manager is also confident that Nico Raskin is in the right frame of mind to play, with the midfielder the subject of more rumours about his future. There has been a suggestion that he had asked to leave the club but Martin denied this and stressed the Belgian is returning to top form. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Raskin rumours addressed 'I think he'll get better and better,' he said. 'The only reason he wasn't in the squad on Saturday was for a rest, but he's trained really well. I think he's going to be a big player for us. 'I said that from the beginning. I've also said it's been a difficult summer for him. But really, the last few weeks, I've loved the energy that Nico's brought. He is going to be really important for us. He will play tomorrow night and he'll be a good player for us.' On the specific issue of Raskin's future, Martin added: 'No, he's been really good. We analysed his clips, me and him together, from the game against Plzen last Tuesday. So, no, I've not heard anything (about him asking to leave). Not at all. He's been brilliant. I'm pretty sure Kevin (Thelwell, sporting director) and Patrick (Stewart, chief executive) would have told me if we'd heard that sooner.' Russell Martin speaks to the press ahead of Rangers v Club Brugge. | SNS Group It's unusual that Rangers face such a crucial European tie against a team they played only as recently as last month. The Belgian side are making a quick return to Ibrox having shared four goals with Rangers in a friendly near the start of July in Martin's first match as manager. He said only a limited amount could be taken from that meeting. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Brugge have since won two of their first three league games, losing the other, and made it past Red Bull Salzburg in the previous Champions League qualifying round. Their head coach Nicky Hayen was manager of Haverfordwest County in the Cymru League in Wales while Martin was in charge of Swansea. 'Both teams look very different already,' said Martin, with reference to the 2-2 friendly draw, when Rangers came back from being 2-0 down at half-time. 'There's a few patterns we definitely looked at over the last few days that have been consistent in their games moving forward.

Arsenal urged to lower transfer demands for Fabio Vieira as they look to axe huge chunk of deadwood to fund summer spree
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ARSENAL have been told to lower their demands for Fabio Vieira as they attempt to offload several players before the end of the transfer window. The Gunners have spent around £200million on new signings this summer, including £63.5m on Viktor Gyokeres, £51m on Martin Zubimendi and £42m on Noni Madueke. 5 Fabio Vieira is one of several Arsenal players who want to leave the club this summer Credit: Getty 5 He was signed from Porto for £30million in 2022 but has never really been a mainstay Credit: Getty 5 Mikel Arteta is aware he has to get some players out of the door before the window shuts Credit: Reuters They remain interested in more arrivals, with Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze still a target despite his links to Tottenham. However, despite having a lot of headroom regarding PSR regulations, they are tight on Uefa Financial Fair Play rules. Several fringe players will need to be sold to rectify this, and Portuguese midfielder Vieira has been lined up as one of those. The 25-year-old has fallen out of favour under boss Mikel Arteta, shipped out on loan to Porto last season – the club they bought him from in the summer of 2023 for around £30m. Vieira is back training at London Colney but was omitted from the squad that secured a 1-0 Prem opening day victory at Manchester United on Sunday. Arsenal want to recoup as much of that £30m as possible, but that is proving a tough task in this window, even after dropping their demands to around £25m. Porto president Andre Villas Boas was in touch with the North Londoners over a permanent return for Vieira earlier this summer after making 42 appearances in all competitions last term, but they are not in a financial position to give Arsenal what they want. Bundesliga side Stuttgart are also monitoring the situation. They are eyeing Vieira as a replacement for 23-year-old Frenchman Enzo Millot, who has recently joined Saudi side Al-Ahli for around £24m, which could rise to £26m with add-ons. BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK SunSport understands that the Germans would only be willing to pay around £17m including add-ons for Vieira. Arsenal are willing to hold out for the right price, but Stuttgart are prepared to move on to other targets should negotiations break down. Arsenal new-boy reveals how to pronounce name properly… and you've been saying it all wrong for years What did we learn about Arsenal in Man Utd victory? VIKTOR GYOKERES was given a reality check on his Arsenal debut as the £63.5million striker failed to have a shot against Manchester United. SunSport's Charlie Wyett assesses the Arsenal's Premier League opener... NEW SIGNINGS VIKTOR GYOKERES has room for improvement, putting it mildly. His last competitive game in this country was the 2023 Championship play-off final between Coventry and Derby and his Premier League debut will also be a day he will be keen to forget. He worked hard enough and did try and get in behind the United defence but the Swede was given little service in what was a poor performance from the title hopefuls. Gyokeres was decent in the Emirates Cup win over Athletic Bilbao which shows you exactly why we should never take too much from pre-season. Against Manchester United, the striker who is supposed to turn Arsenal into title winners, while admittedly getting very little service, failed to even have a shot. The £63.5million signing didn't contribute much to make up for his lack of threat up top either. For all he ran and tried to assert himself, Gyokores only managed to complete four passes to his new team-mates, while giving the ball away five times. Mikel Arteta is hoping the former Sporting Lisbon man can be the dominant presence that Arsenal have been missing up front. But here the 27-year-old won just three duels against United's unheralded defence, losing ten. SET-PIECES NEW season, new set-piece routine. Since the start of 2023-24, Arsenal have scored 31 Premier League goals from corners - at least 11 more than any other side. Although Arsenal's first goal of the season was thanks to Altay Bayindir's clanger, Arteta used a different type of routine. We had seen this a few times in pre-season with five players lining up on the edge of the penalty although the goal came from Riccardo Calafiori who was already lurking near the back post and was able to get the final touch. The one thing that might really hurt Arsenal offensively this season is the new clampdown on pushing and shoving in the penalty area, something they do a lot. Although both teams were guilty of grappling with opposing players, Simon Hooper let a few things go - but not all officials will be the same. NEXT UP - LEEDS ARTETA will have plenty to ponder before sending his team out to face newly-promoted Leeds at the Emirates on Saturday evening. Although battles against Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle are on the horizon in a nasty opening sequence of fixtures, Arsenal will be expected to deliver a much better performance than what we saw at Old Trafford, where they were incredibly lucky to win. This game will give Gyokeres a terrific chance to score his first goal in the Premier League. Equally, Zubimendi should keep his place although already, Gabriel Martinelli surely knows his place is under threat with Madueke itching to make an impression. Although he scored the winner, Calafiori kept going walkabout at left back leaving Gabriel Magalhaes exposed on the left of central defence. This is why Myles Lewis-Skelly, who will probably have been peed off in not starting this game, might be given a run-out against Daniel Farkes' team. 5 TRANSFER NEWS LIVE - KEEP UP WITH ALL THE LATEST FROM A BUSY SUMMER WINDOW Left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko has also been linked with a move away, recently admitting to feeling 'shame' in the 'worst season' of his professional career after being dropped by Arteta for Myles Lewis-Skelly last campaign, making just five Prem starts. Borussia Dortmund have previously been linked to the Ukrainian, while Fenerbahce and Real Betis have shown interest. Arsenal paid £32m including add-ons for Zinchenko from Manchester City in the summer of 2022, but are unlikely to get that fee back for the 28-year-old who has suffered injury issues during his Emirates stay so far. Arteta would love Zinchenko to stay on as an experienced head in the dressing room, offering depth to the left-back position, but he is currently third choice behind Lewis-Skelly and Riccardo Calafiori – the Italian starting and scoring the winner against United. Zinchenko was also left out of the squad that travelled to Old Trafford with his future up in the air, and the same can be said for Polish centre back Jakub Kiwior. 5 Arsenal believe the time could be right to cash in on Kiwior, whose stock has never been higher after impressing when stepping in for the injured Gabriel in the latter stages of last term. The 25-year-old joined Arsenal from Spezia in January in a deal worth £20m including add-ons, and there is a belief they can sell him for a similar figure with AC Milan keeping tabs on the defender. Porto have also not given up hope on luring him to Portugal, despite already reinforcing their back line with the £6.5m arrival of Jan Bednarek from Southampton. Should Kiwior leave, it is unlikely Arteta will look for a centre back replacement given that they have already signed 21-year-old Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia for an up-front fee of around £13m with £3.5m in add-ons, while Calafiori can also fill in if needed. Winger Reiss Nelson and midfielder Albert Sambi Lokongo were also missing from the squad at United and work is being done to find them a new home too, but the pair are not expected to bring in significant fees.
