To help end the export of waste from industrialised nations—a practice that currently places a disproportionate burden on the world's poorest countries—matterr has developed a globally patented solution capable of repeatedly transforming waste back into high-quality raw materials.
With this funding, matterr can accelerate the construction of its second plant, now on a small industrial scale, in North Rhine-Westphalia. The core technology is the depolymerization of PET under mild conditions. This allows mixed waste such as multi-layer packaging or mixed textile fabrics to be broken down into their primary components and fossil raw materials to be replaced on a large scale. By returning the monomer-based process to primary material quality, it enables molecular upcycling: Polyester textiles, which previously could only be recycled for low-quality applications, are now being used to create products of the highest quality – not only new textiles, but even packaging that is approved for food contact.

The funding commitment awarded to matterr is not only the first from this programme but also the maximum possible grant amount of €30 million. The planned NRW facility is scheduled to start operations in 2027 with an annual capacity of 10,000 tonnes.
cooldown°earth is not the recipient of the funding, but an early investor and enabler. Any potential returns from its stake will, in accordance with its statutes, be reinvested in non-profit climate and environmental protection projects.

Earlier today, an Indian source said that China had promised to address three key Indian concerns. It was not immediately clear whether China had agreed to approve export licenses faster or grant blanket exemptions for India. China has previously committed to speeding up export licenses for Europe and the US without actually dismantling the control regime. China's exports of rare earths and related magnets jumped in June after these agreements and as the commerce ministry worked through a huge backlog of applications. However, rare earth magnet exports to India were still down 58% compared to January levels, according to Chinese customs data. June is the last month for which country-level data is available. Eutelsat reports better-than-expected full year earnings

Eutelsat gained the spotlight this year as European governments sought home-grown solutions for satellite services, aiming to reduce their reliance on U.S. providers. Revenues from video, connectivity and government services reached 1.24 billion euros ($1.43 billion) in the year ended June 30, up 0.8% from a year earlier. Financial analysts had expected those revenues to total 1.21 billion euros, according to a consensus poll provided by Eutelsat. The Paris-based group hopes to offset declining income from its video business by gaining a foothold in the satellite internet market, where SpaceX's Starlink dominates. Eutelsat said revenues from its low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites rose 84.1% yearly to 187 million euros. Higher revenues for government services reflected services delivered in Ukraine and increased demand from other non-U.S. governments, the company said. Eutelsat expects LEO revenues to grow by 50% next year, saying it will compensate, but not yet outweigh the decline in its legacy business, which are impacted by additional Russian sanctions.
