PENAMPANG: The Sabah Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) busted an operation involved in the misappropriation of subsidised diesel in a raid on a premises in Kampung Sindaanan, Kobusak, Penampang. The 6.53pm raid on Tuesday (July 15) led to the seizure of 16,180 litres of diesel, an Isuzu Trooper and various related equipment, with the total seizure value of RM53,527.
Advertisement A local in his 30s, believed responsible for the operation, was detained to assist with investigations under the Supply Control Act 1961. Initial investigation revealed that the premises did not have a valid licence or authorisation to store controlled goods. The bust followed a week-long surveillance and tip-offs from the public, said KPDN Sabah in a statement. The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961, Regulation 3(1) of the Supply Control Regulations 1974 for trading controlled items without a licence and Section 20(1) of the same Act for storing such goods at an unauthorised location. Under the Act, individuals found guilty can face a fine of up to RM1 million, imprisonment of up to three years, or both, with heavier penalties for repeat offenders. Companies, if convicted, face fines of up to RM2 million and up to RM5 million for subsequent offences. KPDN reminded petrol station operators not to sell RON95 petrol or subsidised diesel to unlicensed buyers, warning that any retailer caught flouting the regulations will face enforcement under Regulation 21(1) and Regulation 12A of the Supply Control Regulations 1974. The Ministry stressed that it would continue regular inspections and enforcement throughout Sabah to prevent abuse of subsidised fuel, which causes significant losses to the Government and the public. From Jan 1 to July 16, KPDN Sabah has taken enforcement action in 1,179 cases, with total seizures amounting to RM22.2 million and RM276,250 in compounds issued. In the same period, 1,112 consumer complaints were received, with 92.7 pc (1,031) resolved and 7.3 pc (81) still under investigation. The Ministry also conducted 82,322 premise inspections, 62,307 in urban areas and 19,244 in rural locations. The public is urged to continue acting as the Government's eyes and ears by reporting any suspected misuse of subsidised goods, ensuring these abuses are stamped out completely. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Sabah and Sarawak to become national sustainable energy hubs under 13MP: PM
Published on: Thursday, July 31, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jul 31, 2025 By: Bernama Text Size: For illustrative purposes only. KUALA LUMPUR: The federal government has placed special emphasis on elevating Sabah and Sarawak as Malaysia's competitive regional hubs for sustainable energy under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when tabling the five-year plan in the Dewan Rakyat today, said the initiative includes the development of the Sarawak Hydrogen Hub and the Sabah Energy Supply Guarantee — both aimed at strengthening the energy infrastructure in the two states. 'These efforts will attract high-impact investments and promote clean technology development, ultimately benefiting the people of Sabah and Sarawak,' he said. The government is also focusing on driving economic development in the east coast states of Kelantan, Pahang, and Terengganu by establishing a competitive, integrated national food production hub, expected to generate new economic opportunities, particularly for rural communities. Themed 'Melakar Semula Pembangunan' (Redesigning Development), the 13MP outlines the government's commitment to redesigning Malaysia's socio-economic development agenda for the 2026–2030 period. It aligns closely with the Malaysia Madani framework, a vision centred on human dignity, inclusivity, and sustainability. The plan sets out clear policies, strategies, and initiatives aimed at nation-building, improving public well-being, preserving environmental sustainability, enhancing governance, and positioning Malaysia for stronger regional and global economic growth. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? At least five cases of scams involving sale of Singapore National Day parade tickets since July 1
Victims only realised that they had been duped when they did not receive the NDP tickets, or when scammers became uncontactable. - ST FILE SINGAPORE: At least five cases of e-commerce scams involving the sale of National Day Parade (NDP) tickets have been reported since July 1. In these cases, with total losses amounting to about S$250, victims encountered listings of ticket sales via platforms such as Telegram and Facebook, said the police on July 31. When the victims expressed interest to purchase the tickets, they were directed to make payment via PayNow. The victims realised that they had been duped only when they did not receive the tickets, or when scammers became uncontactable. NDP tickets are not for sale, but are instead distributed for free via a balloting system on Singpass. Re-selling of the tickets is strictly prohibited, and action will be taken against those caught scalping or using the tickets for fraudulent purposes, the NDP executive committee has said. Tickets that are obtained via unauthorised channels will be rendered void, and those holding such tickets will be denied entry to the venue, the police added. The NDP in 2025, which celebrates Singapore's 60th birthday, will be held at the Padang on Aug 9. E-commerce was the top scam type in Singapore in 2024, with 11,665 cases reported and at least $17.5 million lost. Members of the public are encouraged to verify the legitimacy of sales listings before making purchases, and to report suspicious cases promptly. To learn more about scams, they can visit or call the ScamShield hotline on 1799. - The Straits Times/ANN

Restructuring of chicken egg subsidy takes effect tomorrow, industry to offer Special Grade Eggs
The government today announced the restructuring of chicken egg subsidies, to take effect tomorrow. – Photo by Mohd Faisal Ahmad PUTRAJAYA (July 31): The government today announced the restructuring of chicken egg subsidies, to take effect tomorrow (August 1), as part of a phased and targeted subsidy approach aimed at greater sustainability and higher impact. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in a statement, said the move is in line with efforts to ensure supply security and price stability for chicken eggs. As part of this initiative, it said, the industry has agreed to introduce Special Grade Eggs which will be offered at more affordable prices. It said the public can continue to purchase chicken eggs at competitive prices through the Agro Madani Sale and Rahmah Sale programmes, which are being widely implemented nationwide at sales locations managed by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) and the Farmers' Organisations Authority (LPP). According to KPKM, the government spent nearly RM2.5 billion to subsidise chicken egg prices between February 2022 and December 2024. 'It is a huge amount and temporary in nature to assist both the public and the industry during the Covid-19 pandemic and the global supply chain crisis,' said KPKM. With the market situation now stabilising, it said, the subsidy scheme has been restructured to become more targeted and comprehensive. It said the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) will also continue to strengthen enforcement through close monitoring under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 to combat any form of profiteering or price manipulation by irresponsible parties. 'This step is important to ensure that to ensure that prices charged to consumers remain reasonable and fair,' read the statement. For more information regarding the issue of supply or prices of chicken eggs can be channelled to KPDN's official email at [email protected] or via its hotline at 03-80008000. — Bernama
