Tourist Family OTT release: 5 interesting facts to know about Sasikumar and Simran's film before watching it online
Tourist Family dropped on JioHotstar today, June 2. With Sasikumar and Simran in key roles, the film promises more than just scenic visuals. It's a slice-of-life journey filled with unexpected turns. From laughter to emotion, the movie delivers it all. But before you stream it on OTT, here are five interesting facts that make this Tamil family drama a must-watch.
1. Director made his debut at 24
Abishan Jeevinth made his directorial debut with Tourist Family at just 24. What makes this even more impressive is that he had no experience as an assistant director. His creative journey began on YouTube, where he ran a channel called Thug Lightu. He shared videos about friendship, exams, and love. In 2019, he directed a short film titled DOPE. A year later, his short film Nodigal Pirakatha went viral, crossing millions of views.
2. Abishan wanted to create Thenali 2
The idea for Tourist Family began with the director's wish to make a sequel to Thenali. While it drew inspiration from the Kamal Haasan -starrer, the story soon found its own path. The film shifts focus to a Tamil family fleeing Sri Lanka during a financial crisis. It blends emotion and humor while exploring their struggle to survive and rebuild a life.
3. Heart Beat fame Yogalakshmi's debut
Tourist Family marks Yogalakshmi's first appearance in a feature film. Before this, she was known for her role in the series Heart Beat. The show helped her gain recognition on the small screen. Now, a sequel to Heart Beat is also available for streaming on JioHotstar.
4. Highest-grossing movie of Sasikumar's career
Tourist Family has become the biggest box office success of Sasikumar's career. At a press meet, the actor shared that the film has outperformed his previous hits like Sundarapandian and Kutti Puli. It reportedly collected around Rs 2.5 crore on its opening day. That figure, he noted, matches the full run earnings of some earlier films.
5. Rajinikanth and SS Rajamouli praised the film
This is one of those rare moments when stars like Rajinikanth and SS Rajamouli publicly shared their personal reviews after watching a film. The movie also received praise from Suriya, Sivakarthikeyan, Nani, Prabhudeva, and many others. With so many celebrities talking about it, imagine the kind of impact this film must have made.

Arbaaz Khan , who married makeup artist Sshura Khan on December 24, 2023, is once again making headlines — this time for a possible new addition to the family. Rumours are rife that the 57-year-old star is set to become a father again, as a video of Sshura Khan has gone viral, with fans claiming her baby bump is visible. In the video, Sshura is seen stepping out of an eyewear store in Mumbai. Wearing a loose-fitting outfit, she carefully descended the stairs while paparazzi captured the moment. Unlike earlier times when she would shy away from cameras, Sshura appeared calm, confident, and even greeted the photographers with a smile. Her body language and radiant glow instantly sparked speculation online. Social media users were quick to react. 'MashaAllah,' wrote one fan, while another commented, 'The pregnancy glow is so obvious.' Many others sent the couple blessings and love in the comments section. The video has only added fuel to the buzz that Arbaaz and Sshura are expecting their first child together. There's a 22-year age difference between Arbaaz and Sshura — he is 57, while she is 35. Addressing the age gap in an earlier interview, Arbaaz had said, 'Yes, she's younger than me, but she's not 16. She knows what she wants from life.' He also emphasized the strength and maturity in their relationship. Arbaaz was previously married to Malaika Arora . The two tied the knot in 1998 and share a son, Arhaan Khan. They got divorced in 2017 after 19 years of marriage. Post-divorce, both moved on — Malaika with Arjun Kapoor and Arbaaz with Sshura, after his brief relationship with Giorgia Andriani . While the couple has not officially confirmed the pregnancy, the viral video has certainly stirred excitement among fans. If true, Arbaaz Khan is set to embrace fatherhood again, this time with his second wife, Sshura Khan. 'Sitaare Zameen Par' makers shares his opinion on marching of tech in cinema
Director R.S. Prasanna, who is awaiting the release of his upcoming film 'Sitaare Zameen Par', feels that human beings will soon catch up with the technological changes in filmmaking. The filmmaker spoke with IANS in the run-up to the release of his film, which features Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh. He recollected how he saw Indian cinema legend Kamal Haasan experimenting with a digital camera, Red Dragon. Speaking with IANS, Prasanna said, "I think the industry is pretty fast in adapting, like I remember when 35mm film was there and I was in film school and Kamal Haasan sir was testing the Red camera in our L.V. Prasad Film Institute, Chennai where I studied. He was doing a test shoot. I remember all the people around saying, 'it's just a fad and it'll not happen, it's not gonna happen', and it did". Aamir Khan's altered AI video hits cyberspace; 'Mr Perfectionist' issues clarification on 'endorsing' a particular political party The director said that one cannot stop the march of technology and one has to adapt. The audience will demand a change, the filmmakers will rise, the technological change will happen as it should, and experiments will keep happening, some will click, some will not. He further mentioned, "But I think one thing which will never change is the way our hearts beat, so as long as the heart is there in everything, the visual is only pixels, the sound is only decibels, but that feeling, that soul, that is, as long as we have a heart, stories told by humans will always be relevant". He then cited the example of romance as to how the shape or form of romance in cinematic storytelling has changed but the soul is the same. He shared, "If you see around yourself, romance has been there from early manage, they may say romance has changed, no romance has not changed, the medium has changed, today you call it situationship or anything else but, still the heart pains if you don't get to be with the person of your choice". "I feel unless genetically our heart changes or our mind changes, I think storytelling and emotions will be the same, the form will keep changing and we have to be on the awareness of that as a director, but I think for me as a filmmaker, I'm only looking for the soul, which I think soul is very old, so it won't change that fast", he added. Produced by Aamir Khan under his banner, Aamir Khan Productions, 'Sitaare Zameen Par' is set to release in cinemas on June 20, 2025.
