Bhagirath spoke to PTI ahead of Gandhi's visit to Beldaur, the village to which his legendary father belonged.

He also seemed unimpressed with the gesture shown by Nitish Kumar in the lifetime of his father, by getting the Dalit mason seated on his own chair.
"What benefit did my father and his family get from that show? Of course, Nitish Kumar may have got some brownie points", said the embittered son.

Dashrath Manjhi earned fame for his feet of flattening a hill, just with a hammer and a chisel, after his wife stumbled while bringing him food from their home. It took several years for Manjhi, who passed away in 2007, to achieve his goal which reduced by over 40 km the distance between two administrative blocks of the district of Gayaji.
The poignant life story also inspired a biopic "Manjhi - The Mountain Man" in which the titular role was played by National Award-winning actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Bhagirath, who was inducted into JD(U) last year, but joined the Congress in February this year, weeks after attending Gandhi's 'Samvidhan Suraksha Sammelan' in Patna, also said he would seek a ticket in the polls which are barely a few months away.
He said, with candour, "When Rahul Gandhi comes here, I am going to ask him for a party ticket from Bodh Gaya".
Named after the international Buddhist pilgrim town, Bodh Gaya happens to be a reserved constituency. The seat is currently held by the RJD, the Congress' senior ally in Bihar.

New Delhi, July 23 (UNI) Congress MP Manickam Tagore today submitted an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha, demanding an urgent discussion in the Monsoon Session of Parliament, on what he described as a 'blatant and unconstitutional attempt' to deny voting rights to the poor, backward, Dalit, and marginalised communities in Bihar through the Election Commission's Special Investigation Report (SIR) mechanism. In his notice under Rule 56 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Lok Sabha, Tagore accused the Modi government of misusing the Election Commission to disenfranchise vulnerable sections of society—a move he said amounts to a violation of the fundamental right to vote enshrined in the Constitution and envisioned by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. 'That this House do adjourn to discuss the dangerous and unconstitutional moves by the Modi Government to use the Election Commission as a tool to systematically disenfranchise the poor, backward, Dalit, and marginalized communities in Bihar by means of the SIR (Special Investigation Report) mechanism, thereby violating the fundamental right to vote granted by the Constitution, as envisioned by Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar,' his letter to the Speaker stated. The Congress leader likened the alleged voter purging to 'colonial practices,' where suffrage was limited to the elite. 'This calculated disenfranchisement is reminiscent of a time when only the rich and property-owning classes could vote, while the masses were excluded,' he said. He further alleged that the ruling dispensation was exhibiting a 'Manuwadi mindset' aimed at reversing the gains of social justice and universal adult franchise. 'Under the guise of verifying voter identity and eligibility, official machinery is being misused to strike lakhs of poor voters—particularly from Dalit and backward communities—off the electoral rolls in Bihar. This is not an isolated incident, but part of a larger, disturbing pattern to manipulate the electoral process in favour of the ruling party by excluding sections of society that do not support them politically,' Tagore wrote. Hanumakonda: Warangal West MLA Naini Rajender Reddy alleged on Tuesday that the BRS government--which was in power for ten years--committed grave injustice to Kazipet.
