Anantnag (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], July 13 (ANI): Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag on Sunday visited Government Medical College (GMC) in Anantnag to assess the condition of pilgrims injured in a bus accident pertaining to Amarnath Yatra and reviewed the arrangements therein. The pilgrims were en route to Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu after completing the Amarnath pilgrimage in Kashmir when their bus met with an accident in south Kashmir's Kulgam district. At least ten people, all from Madhya Pradesh, sustained injuries and were shifted to GMC Anantnag. During his visit, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with the injured pilgrims and inquired about their health and the treatment being provided. He reassured the patients and their families of the administration's full support and directed hospital authorities to ensure the best possible medical care. One of the injured pilgrims said that the group had left early in the morning. '10-11 people have been injured. All of us are from Madhya Pradesh. MPPSC Aspirants In Limbo Again As FSO Exam Cancelled After 17 Years of Wait
MPPSC FSO Exam 2025: After a gap of 17 years, when the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) finally issued a recruitment notification for the post of Food Safety Officer (FSO), it rekindled hope among thousands of aspirants across the state. However, those dreams were short-lived. The exam was abruptly cancelled after forms were filled, fees were collected, and study preparations had begun. Now, candidates have been asked to pay the fees once again for a revised notification - leaving many feeling frustrated, demoralised and betrayed. The FSO recruitment notification was released in December 2025 for 120 posts. Nearly one lakh students applied, each paying a non-refundable fee of ₹540 - an estimated total of Rs. 5.4 crore collected by the commission. But in March 2025, the Central Government revised the eligibility criteria for the post. Despite this, MPPSC cancelled the exam only a month later, in April, and has now reissued a notification - with fewer posts and a demand for fresh fees. Aspirants Speak Out: "We are being pushed to the edge" Bhagirath Rawat, a resident of Vijaypur tehsil in Sheopur district, has been living in Indore for two years to prepare for government exams. He stays in a small tin-roofed room, which becomes unbearably hot in summers and leaks during the rains. His father, a marginal farmer, took loans from local moneylenders to support his son's dreams. "I had paid the fees, bought books, and started preparing. Now MPPSC has cancelled the exam and wants us to pay again. My heart and my pocket are both empty," said Bhagirath. Richa Chaudhary, who came to Bhopal at the age of 17 from Raisen district, is now 30. Despite over a decade of preparation, she remains unemployed. "I've lost all hope in MPPSC. Every recruitment is mired in some controversy or cancellation. My relatives have started pressuring me to get married. I feel ashamed when people look at me as just another unemployed girl. Sometimes I feel it's better to die than live with this burden," Richa said, holding back tears. Ravindra Sakhya from Morena has been preparing in Gwalior for five years. He too applied for the FSO post, but now says he has lost all motivation. "When the first notification came, I thought this was my chance. I paid the fee, bought books, started preparing. Then it was cancelled. Now there's a new notification with fewer posts, and I'm being asked to pay again. I'm mentally and financially exhausted," he said. R. Panchbhai, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), MPPSC, said the cancellation was due to a mismatch between the educational qualifications mentioned in the department's demand letter and the amended notification issued later by the Government of India. "After receiving applications, we identified a discrepancy in the eligibility criteria. On contacting the department, this was confirmed, which led to the cancellation," he explained. But critics argue that the commission should have anticipated these changes and acted sooner, especially since the central government had amended the eligibility criteria a month before the cancellation. Students across the state are raising serious questions about the functioning and accountability of MPPSC. Many are demanding an immediate refund of their earlier fees and clarification about how such administrative oversights occurred. With growing public outrage and continued silence from top officials, the MPPSC finds itself in the eye of yet another credibility crisis. And for the aspirants, it's not just an exam that's been cancelled - it's years of effort, trust, and belief in the system.

'Mountain Man' Dasharath Manjhi 's son Bhagirath, who recently quit Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar 's JD(U) to join the Congress, on Friday disclosed that he wanted a party ticket in the upcoming assembly polls. Bhagirath spoke to PTI ahead of Gandhi's visit to Beldaur, the village to which his legendary father belonged. He said, "You can look at our house. We still do not have a pucca house. "What benefit did my father and his family get from that show? Of course, Nitish Kumar may have got some brownie points", said the embittered son. Live Events Dashrath Manjhi earned fame for his feet of flattening a hill, just with a hammer and a chisel, after his wife stumbled while bringing him food from their home. It took several years for Manjhi, who passed away in 2007, to achieve his goal which reduced by over 40 km the distance between two administrative blocks of the district of Gayaji. The poignant life story also inspired a biopic "Manjhi - The Mountain Man" in which the titular role was played by National Award-winning actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Bhagirath, who was inducted into JD(U) last year, but joined the Congress in February this year, weeks after attending Gandhi's 'Samvidhan Suraksha Sammelan' in Patna, also said he would seek a ticket in the polls which are barely a few months away. He said, with candour, "When Rahul Gandhi comes here, I am going to ask him for a party ticket from Bodh Gaya". Named after the international Buddhist pilgrim town, Bodh Gaya happens to be a reserved constituency. The seat is currently held by the RJD, the Congress' senior ally in Bihar.

PM ‘Bhagirath of modern India', behind Namami Gange success: UP CM
1 2 Ayodhya : Describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the 'Bhagirath of modern India', Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath credited him for the success of the Namami Gange campaign. Speaking in Ayodhya at events to mark World Environment Day on Thursday, the CM said that before 2014, the Ganga was "severely polluted due to the unplanned and unscientific activities of previous govts". The Namami Gange project, launched in 2014, resulted in the river regaining its purity and uninterrupted flow, something witnessed by over 66 crore devotees who visited the Prayagraj Mahakumbh this year, he said. The CM also planted a sapling at the Chaudhary Charan Singh Pushp Vatika and congratulated people on the occasion of Ganga Dussehra, Saryu Mahotsav, and World Environment Day. Elaborating on the historical, cultural, and environmental importance of Ayodhya, Yogi spoke about the efforts to revive the Saryu river and said that rivers were the foundation of Mother Earth, and protecting them was essential to safeguarding the environment, wildlife, and human life. "Lord Ram mentioned the name of Saryu while speaking about Ayodhya. Saryu is the soul of Ayodhya, and it is every citizen's responsibility to protect and preserve it," he said. Wishing people on Ganga Dussehra, the CM spoke about the descent of Ganga onto Earth after the penance of Lord Bhagirath. Ganga was not only a source of spiritual liberation and material well-being but also the reason behind the agricultural richness of India and the world. Highlighting the efforts being made by the govt to improve the health of rivers in the state, the CM said that district magistrates were directed to revive at least one river in their respective districts. Speaking about initiatives to be taken by the UP forest department in the coming days, the CM announced that on June 23, the martyrdom day of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, BJP would launch a large-scale tree plantation drive. He also said that this year's tree plantation drive in the state would be linked with rivers, and large-scale plantation drives would be carried out along riverbanks. This year, he said, 35 crore saplings would be planted along rivers. Plantation would also be undertaken along highways and expressways. Speaking on Ayodhya's transformation over the past 10 years, the CM said that the city was once plagued by irregular power supply, water shortage, and cleanliness but now emerged as a clean and beautiful spiritual destination. Highlighting the surge in tourists coming to the city, he said: "Where earlier the number of devotees barely crossed a few lakh, Ayodhya welcomed over 16 crore pilgrims last year alone. Key development works that have taken place here include an international airport, beautification of temples and monasteries, and the expansion of Ram Ki Paidi, now graced by the clean, free-flowing waters of the Saryu. Maharishi Valmiki's divine vision of Ayodhya is finally taking shape." The CM also proposed the creation of theme-based gardens in Ayodhya, named after figures, such as Ma Janaki, Lakshman, Bharat, Shatrughan, Hanuman, Sugriva, Jambavan, Mata Shabari, and Nishad Raj. He called on the citizens of Ayodhya to take a collective pledge, in collaboration with the district administration, to revive at least one river in the region. The CM congratulated Ayodhya mayor Girish Pati Tripathi on completing two years in office and praised the corporation's performance, particularly in urban development and civic management. He also inaugurated development projects worth Rs 30 crore and laid the foundation stone for projects valued at Rs 33 crore.
