CAS sets date for Crystal Palace verdict over Europa League demotion
Palace appealed against the decision to the CAS, and the court confirmed on Wednesday that a hearing would take place on August 8, followed by a verdict on August 11. That is the day after Palace, as FA Cup holders, face Premier League champions Liverpool in the Community Shield.

UEFA rules state where one or more clubs are deemed to have common ownership, they cannot play in the same competition. Lyon edged out Palace for the sole Europa League place because they finished higher than Palace in the league.
Nottingham Forest have taken Palace's Europa League place. Palace are seeking to take either Lyon's or Forest's place in the second-tier competition in their appeal.
Textor has now sold his stake in Palace, with the purchase of his shares by New York Jets owner Woody Johnson completed last week.

Ryanair sets monthly passenger record despite air traffic control strikes
The Dublin-based carrier announced 20.7 million passengers travelled on its flights in July. That is up 3% from 20.2 million during the same month last year. Its load factor – which represents the average proportion of seat filled on its aircraft – was stable at 96%. Ryanair said it operated more than 113,000 flights in July and cancelled 680, mainly because of French controller strikes. French ATC staff took industrial action on July 3 and 4 in a dispute over working conditions. As well as disrupting flights to and from French airports, the walkouts affected flights scheduled to travel over French airspace. This meant many services to or from UK airports were delayed or cancelled. EasyJet chief executive Kenton Jarvis previously described the French strikes as 'very, very disruptive' as they forced the airline to cancel 660 flights and cost it £15 million. Around 70% of easyJet's flights either fly to or from a French airport, or over the country's airspace. European air traffic management body Eurocontrol estimated the strikes affected more than one million passengers. Meanwhile, a radar fault suffered by UK ATC provider Nats led to more than 100 UK flights being cancelled on July 30.

The 32-year-old was granted conditional bail following a short hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court this morning. He faces five counts of rape and one of sexual assault. He is accused of two counts of rape against one woman and three counts of rape against another, with the sexual assault allegation relating to a third. Partey was charged four days after leaving the North London side when his contract expired at the end of June. Campaigners have criticised Arsenal for continuing to play the Ghanaian international in two Premier League title challenges while on bail over the accusations following his initial arrest in 2022. He played 35 games for Arsenal in the Premier League last season, scoring four goals. Members of the group Arsenal Supporters Against Sexual Violence held up a banner outside court reading 'Arsenal said: 'We do the right thing' – Then did nothing'. Manager Mikel Arteta defended the club's handling of the midfielder when quizzed about it during last month's pre-season tour of Asia, telling reporters he was '100%' confident they had followed the proper processes. Arsenal released a statement on July 4, the day of Partey's arrest, saying: 'The player's contract ended on June 30. Partey, whose lawyer previously said he 'denies all the charges against him', is close to joining Villarreal on a free transfer. He is understood to have completed his medical having agreed personal terms for a return to Spain, where he has previously played for Atlético Madrid, Mallorca and Almería. Partey's court appearance comes a day before Arsenal host Villarreal in a friendly at the Emirates. The electric cars have been approved for the discount after a government scheme to cut the price of EV's was greenlit. The models – the e-C3, e–C4, e-C5 Aircross and the e-Berlingo can be picked up by petrolheads without the need to fill out pesky paperwork. The £650million Electric Car Grant (ECG) was passed in an attempt to slash emissions and boost electric vehicle sales in the UK. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said: "With the first four models approved today and more to come over the next few weeks, this summer we're making owning an electric car cheaper, easier and a reality for thousands more people across the UK. "Once again we're delivering our Plan for Change by standing firmly on the side of motorists and manufacturers, driving down costs for consumers, supporting jobs and putting money back in people's pockets." Citroën UK managing director Greg Taylor welcomed the move, saying: "We are delighted to be the first to have our electric range... approved and eligible. "At Citroën we want everyone to have the opportunity to make the switch to an electric car and this support will help make our cars more accessible for our customers." The RAC also backed the policy, saying it would ease the cost barrier for drivers looking to go electric. Simon Williams, RAC head of policy, said: "It's great to see the first qualifying models announced for the government's new Electric Car Grant. "Not only does this mean more drivers will benefit from the lower cost of running an electric vehicle, but it's hopefully the sign of more to come from other manufacturers in the weeks ahead." Speaking on the BBC's Today programme, she said factories powered by coal are unlikely to meet the Government's strict criteria. She added that only brands reaching minimum environmental standards will be approved for taxpayer support. This has sparked tension with the Chinese government. A spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in London said the UK must follow World Trade Organisation rules and avoid discriminatory policies. They warned they are monitoring the situation closely and would defend the rights of Chinese companies. Even BYD — China's biggest EV manufacturer — has confirmed it is applying for the grant but, like Leapmotor, has yet to hear back. There's also doubt over the Dacia Spring's eligibility. Although Dacia is a Renault-owned brand, the Spring is built in Wuhan, China, at a joint venture facility shared with Dongfeng Motor Group. Seven low-cost electric cars expected to benefit from the grant — including the Dacia Spring, MG4, Peugeot e-208, Fiat 500e and Volkswagen ID.3 — though most will only get the lower £1,500 discount unless they can prove greener production credentials. But with the Government now focusing on sustainability standards, many of those could also miss out on the full grant unless their makers can prove they meet the green benchmarks.
