Report Pending On Officers Accused In ‘Flying Passport' Bribery Case
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the ministry will obtain a report from Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.
'Let him (Shuhaily) handle it first… I believe we have placed the right person in the right position,' he told reporters after officiating the 53rd anniversary celebration of the People's Volunteer Corps (RELA) at Dataran Kulim here today.
Yesterday, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested four enforcement officers suspected of receiving bribes of about RM3,000 for facilitating the 'flying passport' activity at the motorcycle entry zone checkpoint at the Johor-Singapore border.
Two of them were detained by AKPS' Compliance Unit during an inspection at the counter yesterday, while two other officers were arrested for allegedly colluding in the operation.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin Nasution said RELA members must equip themselves with new skills and enhance training to expand the scope of their functions.
He stressed the need for a shift in RELA's core duties from the usual roles of traffic control, disaster response and managing public events.
'This shift aims to elevate RELA's role to include responsibilities in sensitive areas such as border control.
'Of course, RELA will not act alone. Its purpose is to complement and support existing enforcement agencies. The ministry sees potential for RELA to contribute further,' he said.

Dzulkefly clarified that the amendments prevent overlapping jurisdiction among agencies. 'Drug enforcement officers focus on handling poisons and psychotropic substances related to medicines and industrial chemicals. The police monitor abuse of banned substances, while customs control the entry and exit of these substances at national entry points.' The bill redefines 'authorised officer' to include police officers of any rank and individuals appointed by the Health Minister. It also expands the definition of 'premises' to cover land, buildings, offshore installations, and other structures. Theft by drug addicts drives Kedah crime spike, says police chief
ALOR SETAR: Theft committed by drug addicts has emerged as the primary factor behind the surge in index crime cases in Kedah, according to state police chief CP Adzli Abu Shah. From January 1 to July 27, Kedah recorded 2,852 index crime cases, with nearly half linked to theft by drug users. 'Kedah police will maintain the focus outlined by former police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh, which is to eradicate drug-related crime,' Adzli said. He stressed that addressing drug addiction could significantly reduce crime rates. 'We believe that if drug issues can be tackled and eliminated as much as possible, the overall index crime rate in Kedah can be brought down,' he added. Adzli's remarks followed Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail's call for Kedah to intensify efforts against drug abuse. The minister had urged the state to exit the top four rankings for drug addiction during the 2025 National Anti-Drug Day celebration in Jitra last Friday. Separately, Adzli assured that Kedah police are reinforcing border security despite the Thailand-Cambodia conflict being distant from Malaysia's northern border. 'Precautionary steps are being taken by strengthening security at Malaysia's border checkpoints,' he said. MCMC Probes Company Over Online Sale Of Uncertified Communication Devices
PUTRAJAYA, July 28 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched an investigation into a company suspected of selling uncertified communication devices online. In a statement today, MCMC said the probe follows a joint operation with the Royal Malaysia Police under the integrated enforcement initiative Op Taring Bravo 3, which involved multiple enforcement agencies. The operation uncovered 3,837 units of various communication devices, such as wireless gaming consoles, remote controls, smart devices and tablets, estimated to be worth RM500,000, which were seized by the police and handed over to MCMC for technical analysis and further review.
