Eddie Howe's concerning admission, as Alexander Isak situation 'unsettles' teammates
Isak is training alone after making it known he wished to explore his options amid Liverpool's transfer interest and failed first bid for the striker.
Howe last night said "it's clear at the moment we can't involve him with the group" and the head coach admitted he doesn't expect the striker to be involved in next week's Premier League opener at West Ham.
With Newcastle having so far failed to strengthen their forward line with a new striker this summer, Will Osula led the line in last night's 2-2 draw with Espanyol and Anthony Gordon is expected to take up the role in this afternoon's game against Atletico Madrid.
Isak, meanwhile, will continue to train alone, and Howe admits the striker's situation has had an impact on his teammates.

Newcastle striker situation laid bare amid Isak absence but two transfer boosts
'I think the group has been disrupted, of course, but I think whenever you have a player in this situation, it's unsettling for the team," he said.
'I don't think we've been in that position since I've been here, the harmony and togetherness of the group has been at its highest, so I think naturally it's just been a topic of conversation, it's been a distraction and the biggest hit we've taken is we're not blessed with a number of players in his position, so I think you've seen a big gap.
'But I have to say, big credit to the players because they've got on with their work, training has been of a really high level.
"I haven't seen a negative output on the pitch, but I have been aware of a feeling around the group that there's something there that's not to the benefit of the group."
Howe has stressed the power of unity ever since his Newcastle arrival, and this current situation is a new challenge for the head coach on Tyneside.
"As I said, the group's been together since the moment I stepped through the door," he said.
"We had our challenges, we had big mountains to climb on the pitch, but we were always united off the pitch.
'It's been one of our biggest strengths and that's why we've been successful.
"So it doesn't mean that we can't overcome this and come back even stronger, and I think that's what I have to work really hard on with a group of players that will fight and give everything for the football club, that we use any adversity or any challenge to our benefit."

CeeDee Lamb gets tackled by official during Cowboys-Rams game
Like a Lamb to the ... referee? Dallas Cowboys wideout CeeDee Lamb wasn't dressed for Saturday's preseason matchup vs. the Los Angeles Rams, but that doesn't mean he was out of the action entirely. In the second quarter, on a deep pass from Cowboys backup Joe Milton to wide receiver Jonathan Mingo, Lamb turned his back on the sideline to celebrate Mingo potentially catching a bomb from the passer. Instead of Mingo catching the ball, Lamb caught a shoulder from the referee directly to the back, wiping out both in the mashup. Lamb was flagged on the play for interfering with the referee: The thick white out-of-bounds border is strictly ref territory, so any contact with an official in that area results in a flag. While there was a foul, there was no harm, however. Lamb and the Cowboys sideline had a good laugh about the ordeal. The Cowboys would also salvage the drive, notching a field goal. It's preseason for everyone, after all. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: CeeDee Lamb gets trucked by referee during Cowboys-Rams

Stetson Bennett throws 2 TD passes, looks sharp in Rams' 31-21 preseason victory over Cowboys
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Stetson Bennett passed for 188 yards and two touchdowns in a strong start to the preseason, leading the Los Angeles Rams to a 31-21 victory over the Cowboys on Saturday night in new Dallas head coach Brian Schottenheimer's debut. Blake Corum rushed for short TDs to cap the Rams' first two offensive drives behind Bennett, the two-time national champion at the University of Georgia attempting to secure his job as the Rams' third-string quarterback for another season. Looking much sharper than he did a year ago against the Cowboys, Bennett went 16 for 24 and hit Cody Schrader and Brennan Presley for touchdowns in the second half. Bennett's only interception resulted from an exceptional play made by Dallas' Israel Mukuamu on a long pass. Joe Milton passed for 143 yards before injuring his elbow in the fourth quarter of a solid debut with the Cowboys, throwing a touchdown pass to Rivaldo Fairweather with 8:48 to play. The second-year pro, who had one interception while going 17 for 29, is looking to cement his job as Dak Prescott's backup. Will Grier replaced Milton for the final series and rushed for a TD with 2:31 left. Both teams rested as many key players as possible, with Prescott and CeeDee Lamb headlining a host of Cowboys starters on the sideline. Micah Parsons attended the game with his Dallas teammates even after requesting a trade last week during his seemingly interminable contract negotiations with owner Jerry Jones. The Rams didn't even play second-string quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo — but Matthew Stafford, who didn't participate in training camp due to a back injury, went through a lengthy workout before the game ahead of his anticipated return to practice Monday. Schrader rushed for 59 yards for Los Angeles, while rookie Jarquez Hunter had 41 yards and Corum added 32. The game was largely cordial after the Cowboys hosted the Rams four days ago for a joint practice during Dallas' annual training camp in Oxnard, California. Schotty starts The game was the head coaching debut for the 51-year-old Schottenheimer, a well-traveled career assistant coach with stops including USC, the San Diego Chargers and two stints with the St. Louis Rams. He spent the past two years as Dallas' offensive coordinator before becoming Jerry Jones' surprising choice to replace Mike McCarthy last January. Although he has no intention of showing much of his offensive tendencies in the preseason to start his first year as Dallas' play-caller, Schottenheimer got right to work in the other privileges of his new job: He unsuccessfully challenged a sideline catch by the Rams' Xavier Smith on a 39-yard pass from Bennett on the game's opening drive. Offensive interference Lamb didn't stay out of the action entirely despite being in street clothes: He got a penalty in the second quarter when an official ran into him as he strayed into the white paint on the sideline. Lamb was floored, but got up laughing. Up next Cowboys: Three more practices in Oxnard before heading home to host Baltimore next Saturday. Rams: A joint practice with the Chargers on Wednesday before facing their crosstown rivals next Saturday. ___ AP NFL:

Kyler Murray looked good with big mistake in preseason opener
Most of the Arizona Cardinals' starting offense played just over a quarter in their preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs. That included quarterback Kyler Murray. The offense had two possessions and scored three points. For Murray, it was both a good performance but had one glaring negative. He ran operations very well. The offense moved the ball, going eight plays in the first drive and 10 on the second. Murray completed 7-of-8 passes for 96 yards. He completed passes to Marvin Harrison Jr., Trey McBride, Zay Jones, Michael Wilson, Trey Benson and two to Greg Dortch. The problem was he threw a red-zone interception. Neither drive ended with a touchdown. He was picked off and then they kicked a field goal. It was uncertain what he saw on the interception. He seemed to throw it right to Chiefs safety Jaden Hicks. Harrison was farther down the field and McBride was shorter but at the sideline. Now, teams do not game plan for opponents in the preseason, so we will see what is said about the play. For those looking to see that the offense can move, it was a positive. For those looking for finished drives and consistency, this performance did nothing to quell concerns.
