Spider-Man and Mortal Kombat 1 head up August's PS Plus Game Catalog additions
Perhaps the biggest game of the bunch is Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered. This is the PS5 port of the PS4 hit, which upgrades the graphics and swaps out the actor playing Peter Parker. PS4 owners aren't being left out in the cold here, as Marvel's Spider-Man: Game of the Year Edition will also be available.
Not into web-slinging? Mortal Kombat 1 will be available for PS5 players. This is the latest and greatest fighting game in the long-running franchise. It garnered positive reviews upon launch back in 2023. The graphics are stunning and there's a Johnny Cage skin made to resemble actor Jean-Claude Van Damme.
The fantasy surfing adventure Sword of the Sea will be available for subscribers as a day one release on August 19. That's the same day it launches for all platforms. This one's by the same developers behind Journey and Abzû, so color us excited.
Other games available on August 19 include the utterly charming narrative adventure Harold Halibut and the horrifically captivating Indika. Beyond that, there's the life sim Coral Island and the RPG Atelier Ryza 3 Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key.

Avengers: Doomsday's 'leaked' X-Men design for Nightcrawler is actually just fan art

We'll have to wait a bit longer to see the X-Men design for Avengers: Doomsday, because it turns out that a previously 'leaked' image is just fanart. The original artwork was shared by Alan Cumming himself, who plays Nightcrawler and is returning for the next Avengers movie. It appeared to show a picture of his character in costume, but, as one person has debunked on Twitter, the image is actually an edit made by a fan and shared online last year. "Actually, what's great about it, it was four-and-a-half to five hours before, and now it was 90 minutes," Cumming has previously said of his Nightcrawler look. "Before, all the tattoos were done by hand because they hadn't decided on them before we started filming and now there are all these little things that stick on – it's a game changer." Cumming isn't the only X-Men actor returning for Avengers: Doomsday, either. He'll be joined by Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Kelsey Grammer, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden, as revealed in that bumper sized casting announcement. "[I'm] not quite sure [if Mystique's scenes have all been filmed]. They haven't finished writing it." Romijn said back in July. "They keep everything close to the vest themselves in an effort to keep everything under wraps." That tracks with what Kevin Feige has said about the movie, too: "There's plus-ing happening every day on the Avengers: Doomsday set right now, and it is amazing to watch because what those filmmakers, those actors, both the ones that are playing these characters for the first or second time and the one playing them for the 10th or 12th time, are the best in the world at it, and know these characters so well." While there's no shortage of Marvel movies drawing buzz currently, one specifically that's still a bit far off is the Ryan Coogler-directed Black Panther 3. The popular series draws interest regardless of the topic, but the buzz was louder after Denzel Washington's name began circling as a potential addition to the third movie. Coogler has addressed the topic of Washington joining Black Panther 3 previously, admitting he had written a part for the Training Day and The Book of Eli star. Now, Washington responded to the topic of his potential inclusion in the Marvel film during a recent interview with ScreenRant. Denzel Washington Gives 5-Word Response to 'Black Panther' Buzz While speaking about Washington's role in Spike Lee's new film Highest 2 Lowest, the topic of Coogler and the Black Panther 3 rumors came up. As ScreenRant highlighted, Coogler had previously confirmed that Washington signed on to join the third Black Panther movie; however, Washington refused to give anything away. "That's between me and Ryan," Washington replied. Call it Marvel's continued push to keep big news about upcoming movies under wraps, or Washington simply opting out of giving a potentially huge confirmation. Regardless of the reason, the popular actor had no interest in fueling the fire around his Black Panther inclusion rumors. Ryan Coogler and Denzel Washington's Previous 'Black Panther' Comments Although Washington wouldn't reveal much during his recent interview about the potential inclusion in Black Panther 3, he and Coogler have both spoken about the topic publicly before. Coogler, who directed one of the year's most popular films, Sinners, has offered high praise to Washington on several occasions. However, it was Washington, while on Australia's Today show in 2024, who first spoke about the Black Panther 3 role, as Entertainment Weekly revealed. "I don't know how many more films I'm gonna make, probably not that many. I want to do things I haven't done. I played Othello at 22. I am about to play Othello at 70,' he said, referring to the 2025 Broadway rendition with costar Jake Gyllenhaal. 'After that, I am playing Hannibal," he continued. "After that, I've been talking with Steve McQueen about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler's writing a part for me in the next Black Panther. After that, I'm gonna do the film Othello. After that, I'm gonna do King Lear. After that, I'm gonna retire." Then came Coogler's comments during an interview on 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony. When asked if there was a role specifically in mind for Washington in Black Panther 3 and if Coogler had been writing him in for it, the director responded, "Yeah, all of that, all of the above." "There's no fiction out there about that..." Coogler said. "... Denzel is family at this point...I think he's the greatest living actor, and in terms of what he means to our culture? Forget about it, man." After adding that Washington said "a truthful thing, there's no lies," he admitted the two have spoken about it for "a long time." "I've been talking to him about this for a long time. Anthony Mackie gave fans a much-anticipated update on the state of filming for the 2026 movie Avengers: Doomsday. However, it was his comments about London, where filming is taking place, that may have taken the cake. During an interview with ScreenRant, Mackie was asked where things stand with filming and if it was close to wrapping. Not surprisingly, the Captain America actor kicked things off there by letting fans know they aren't even close to the final stretch of filming. Anthony Mackie Gives 'Avengers: Doomsday' Update, Also Can't Believe London's 'Crazy' Amount of Sheep If you thought that an Avengers: Doomsday filming update would never land in the same conversation as London's apparent overload of sheep, think again. While Mackie responded to the question of whether the Marvel film is close to wrapping with a blunt, "Absolutely no, hell no" response, he expanded a bit from there. "We're in the midst of such a big moving set piece, and it's such a big story," Mackie said. "Shooting a Marvel movie, the best part is it's always an ever-evolving canvas. There are those staple pieces, then there are the pieces that kind of circulate throughout the course of the it's going well." Mackie then proceeded to dive into how things are in London, by first stating that "London is so that's a thing." The Marvel star quickly shifted to his surprise at finding out how many sheep London has, and his priceless reaction was my favorite part of the clip, personally. "A lot of sheep. Who knew there were so many sheep in London?!" Mackie said. "There's a lot of sheep...a lot of sheep. It's crazy." To Mackie's credit, it's fair to assume he's logging heavy hours on the set for Avengers: Doomsday, so maybe he's just taking time to enjoy the small things around London—like the sheep. Marvel Yet to Address Several Unanswered Questions About 'Avengers: Doomsday' There's no shortage of excitement around Marvel's latest addition to the Avengers series, but there are many unanswered questions fans hope to get answers to. When Marvel unveiled the cast of Avengers: Doomsday on a roughly 5-6 hour live stream, speculation began that the entire list of names wasn't released. That belief was proven correct later, but Marvel still hasn't confirmed the full, lengthy list of names that'll appear. Among the specific names referenced frequently is a star currently filming his own superhero movie—Tom Holland and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Holland's name wasn't listed on the initial cast release for Avengers: Doomsday, and little information has been provided by Marvel thus far.
