My Husband Made Me Watch This Bonkers Murder Mystery Series and Now I Can't Stop Bingeing

Yahoo27-06-2025
As a big fan of Desperate Housewives, I've had Marc Cherry's other soapy show, Devious Maids, on my radar for years. The four season series originally premiered on Lifetime back in 2013 and has since landed over at Hulu. And after my partner made me watch the first episode with him (he's currently on his second viewing of the show), I realized I'd found my newest trash TV obsession—and I mean "trash TV" in the best way possible.
Devious Maids follows four maids who work for some of the richest and most powerful people in Beverly Hills. And when one of their fellow maids is murdered, Ana Ortiz's Marisol takes it upon herself to solve the murder (and free her son who is accused of committing it).
Like Desperate Housewives, the show is campy, sexy, silly, over-the-top and just plain fun to watch. Plus, who doesn't love a murder mystery?

The series does a great job of weaving comedic and dramatic storylines together and it features some pretty stellar performances.
Ortiz (who you might recognize from Ugly Betty) is the perfect straight man to the, shall we say, wackier characters. Susan Lucci (yes, the Susan Lucci) is fabulous as a sweet but totally out-of-touch millionaire. And Judy Reyes (who I absolutely loved in Scrubs and Claws) brings just the right amount of humor and sass as Lucci's maid-slash-best friend.

The plotlines are a bit ridiculous, but as I said, they're fun. Aside from the murder storyline, one maid is sleeping with her married employer. Another is trying to trick her superstar boss into helping her music career. And another is trying to prevent her daughter (also a maid) from falling head over heels for the rich boss's son. There's a lot going on but, unlike a regular soap opera, the action moves fast, providing twists and cliffhangers in every episode.
So while I hate to admit it, I do owe my partner a begrudging "thank you" for this recommendation. It's the ideal show for kicking my feet up, turning my brain off and unwinding after the work day. And if my current binge rate keeps up, I'll be finished with it very very soon.
All four seasons (and 49 episodes) of Devious Maids are available to stream on Hulu now.

3 underrated Amazon Prime Video movies you should watch this weekend (August 15-17)

Whenever I open Amazon Prime Video, I'm both overwhelmed and have the sensation that Amazon is recommending the same movies to me repeatedly. That combination of emotions is a frustrating one, as it leaves you with few answers in terms of what you should watch that's new. That's why I've pulled together a list of three more unlikely titles that you should stream this weekend, each of which is underrated for one reason or another. Recommended Videos We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, and the best movies on Amazon Prime Video. C'mon C'mon (2021) Joaquin Phoenix is capable of delivering performances in a wide array of registers, and C'mon C'mon is one of the quietest in his long history as an actor. Phoenix plays an emotionally distant radio journalist who must care for his nephew. As the two of them travel the country and learn more about one another, we discover that emotional maturity doesn't necessarily pair with physical maturity. C'mon C'mon is heartbreaking and beautiful, leaving some things unsaid. It's a subtle, grounded movie that feels all the more impactful because it's so quiet. You can watch C'mon C'mon on Amazon Prime Video. Black Bear (2020) Aubrey Plaza has become one of our most reliably strange movie stars in the years since Parks and Recreation ended, and Black Bear is one of her most fascinating projects. The film follows Plaza as a filmmaker who is stuck in a creative rut and travels to a remote lake house in an attempt to spark some inspiration. As she begins to manipulate her hosts, though, she realizes that the best piece of art might be one about what she's currently doing to the people around her. Black Bear is an intriguing movie about the lengths people will go to to do something truly interesting. You can watch Black Bear on Amazon Prime Video. Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008) A great documentary experience can be unlike almost anything else you can stream, and Dear Zachary provides viewers with exactly that kind of pleasure. The film tells the story of a young boy born in Canada to a mother that fled the United States after she killed his father. As his father's family campaigns to gain custody of their grandchild and convict the woman who killed him, we learn who his father was and the kind of impact he had on those around him. Dear Zachary is a heartbreaking movie born of unspeakable circumstances, but one that will leave you both thrilled and deeply emotional. You can watch Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father on Amazon Prime Video.

Rachel Brosnahan's husband reacts to romance speculation about her and ‘Superman' co-star David Corenswet

Messy Metropolis. Rachel Brosnahan's husband, Jason Ralph, has created a stir online by 'liking' an Instagram comment about his wife's relationship with her 'Superman' co-star David Corenswet. The fan comment, which was recently made under Ralph's latest Instagram post from June, accused Brosnahan, 35, of having an affair with Corenswet, 32. 'Like bro.. let's have some self love and stand up for yourself man, leave her to be with him if she wants that much at the end of the day.' But other fans defended Ralph for 'liking' the comment. 'Oh he's a 100% mocking that person,' an X user insisted. If he's better, then have at it. I'm not sure why people would be angry?' someone else asked. The Post has reached out to Brosnahan and Ralph's reps for comment. The speculation surrounding Brosnahan and Corenswet appears to be stemming from a viral video, in which they continued kissing after the director yelled cut. 9 David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan in 'Superman.' ©Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection 9 Rachel Brosnahan kisses her husband Jason Ralph at the 2022 Venice Film Festival. 'We both find this double standard problematic and frustrating and opted to redirect those conversations to our work.' Corenswet, for his part, has been married to Julia Warner since 2023. The couple has one daughter, born in 2024. 'We had a really lovely breakfast after we found out we were going to be playing the roles together… and got to know each other that way,' she added.

Most Popular Cat Names in the US Revealed

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A new study dove into the most popular pet names of 2025, and in the cat world, one name remained on top for a second consecutive year. TrustedHousesitters, a pet-sitting platform, gathered data from the 100,000 dogs and cats registered to the community in July 2025 to find the most popular names for our furry friends. Earning the most popular cat name in 2025, among males and females, is Luna, which also earned the title the previous year. Rounding out the Top 5 are Charlie, Lucy, Bella and Leo. The name Charlie gained in popularity, coming in at number two after just missing the Top 5 a year prior. The rest of the top 25 monikers included a mix of cat classics—Pepper, Coco and Shadow—as well as using traditionally human names. A stock image of two cats relaxing and sleeping together on the couch. Names then transformed to mirror a pet's personality. As people began treating their pets as family members, human names rose in popularity, and pop culture has since become a major influence on names. From movies and food, pet parents are drawing inspiration from all around. BookTok, a community on TikTok for literary enthusiasts to share and discuss books, especially gave owners name ideas this year. The study found that the Fourth Wing book series by Rebecca Yarros sparked a 318 percent increase in the name Violet and a 320 percent increase for Onyx, among both cats and dogs. The names Feyre, Azriel, and Rowan, from Sarah J. Maas's fantasy universe, also gained popularity as pet names. Do Cats Know Their Names? As owners obsess over finding the perfect moniker for their pet, they might begin to wonder whether or not cats actually know their names. Pet experts found that not only can felines recognize their names, they can also differentiate them from other household pets' names, according to an article from PetMD. The recognition is likely due to positive reinforcement and a cat's association of their name with attention, food or play. Cats can also differentiate between their owner's voice and that of a less-visited guest. They recognize tones of voices, influencing how likely they are to pay attention to us. To test if your cat understands their name, see how they respond. Chances are, if they turn their head or orient themselves toward you, they recognize their name. But, as independent creatures, don't get offended if they don't listen.
