Fritz has Zverev's number again in Stuttgart title win
Fritz, who knocked out Zverev in the fourth round of Wimbledon last year, won the opening set 6-3 in 30 minutes on Sunday without facing a break point.
The American second seed broke for a 5-3 lead after Zverev double-faulted twice and missed a volley at the net.
The second set stayed on serve, with Zverev saving the only break point at 5-5 before Fritz pulled away in a one-sided tiebreak to seal victory.
It was Fritz's ninth career title, fourth on grass, and improved his head-to-head record against Zverev to 8-5.
The 28-year-old German is yet to win a title on grass, a surface he has long struggled on. The three-times grand slam finalist has never progressed beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon.

Leverkusen eye move for ex-Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof
Bayer Leverkusen have set their sights on free agent Victor Lindelof to bolster their defence (h/t journalist Florian Plettenberg). Newly appointed manager Erik ten Hag has been overseeing a major rebuild this summer. He looks to sustain Leverkusen's upward trajectory in the new season despite losing several influential figures. Leverkusen have sold defenders Jonathan Tah and Odilon Kossounou to Bayern Munich and Atalanta respectively, but have acquired Jarell Quansah from Newcastle United. Ten Hag is eyeing more central defenders for his project and is considering the possibility of reuniting with Lindelof, with whom the Dutch manager worked at Manchester United. The Swedish centre-back parted ways with the Red Devils when his contract expired in June. It concluded his seven-year spell at Old Trafford, during which he featured in 285 games. Lindelof was also part of the United squad that won the FA Cup in 2023/24 under Ten Hag. Leverkusen appreciate the Swede's wealth of experience and leadership qualities, but they are yet to initiate concrete talks with him. Aston Villa, West Ham, Fiorentina and some of the Serie A clubs have been linked with Lindelof, but none have come forward with any encouraging offers. Lindelof has been plagued with a series of injuries over the last few years, which curtailed his progress, but he can rejuvenate his career at Leverkusen if he remains fully fit. Although he is not considered a long-term option, the Swede can be crucial to their Champions League ambitions in the upcoming season. Die Werkself are working in parallel on a deal to sign Sevilla centre-back Loic Bade. He is rated at around €25 million.
