Albanian Premier Suggests AI Could Run Government Ministry In Future

Barnama6 days ago
BERAT (Albania), July 19 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama suggested Friday that artificial intelligence (AI) could soon play a key role in the country's governance, hinting at the possibility of an AI-run government ministry, reported Anadolu Ajansi (AA).
Speaking at a gathering in the southern city of Berat with representatives from technology, innovation and entrepreneurship sectors, Rama said AI has the potential to significantly boost transparency and efficiency within public administration.
'Very soon, artificial intelligence could become the most efficient member of the government,' Rama said. 'One day, we might even have a ministry entirely run by AI. That way, there would be no nepotism or conflicts of interest.'

Tun Ramli pledges to engage directly with the people of Penang, not just as a state symbol

GEORGE TOWN, 25 Julai -- Yang Dipertua Negeri Pulau Pinang Tun Ramli Ngah Talib ketika ditemu bual eksklusif bersama Bernama di Seri Mutiara baru-baru ini. -- fotoBERNAMA (2025) HAK CIPTA TERPELIHARA GEORGE TOWN: The Governor of Penang, His Excellency Tun Ramli Ngah Talib (pic) , has pledged his commitment to engaging directly with the people, in line with his role as a symbol of unity and a bridge between leaders and communities. Although no longer active in frontline politics, Tun Ramli believes effective leadership continues to depend on a leader's ability to understand the realities of people's lives and to truly listen to their concerns. Armed with 17 years of experience as Perak Menteri Besar from 1982 to 1999, Tun Ramli said he hopes to bring a people-first approach to his role as the ninth Governor of Penang, following his official swearing-in on May 1. "As Governor, I, too, must go down to the ground and meet the people as much as I can. If we are not familiar with or close to them, they won't open up, they'll keep things to themselves. That's not healthy and shouldn't happen. "In my view, it's important to understand the people's 'tastes', not just in terms of food but in terms of customs and practices. If I am here in Penang, I must understand their feelings. That's how, little by little, I become one with the people of Penang,' he shared in a recent exclusive interview with Bernama, conducted by editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj and Penang Bureau chief R. Ratcharathan at Seri Mutiara here. Drawing from his extensive experience in public administration, Tun Ramli emphasised that all leaders must embrace the principle of 'going to the ground' to better grasp the needs and challenges faced by the people at the grassroots, and to help address them within their capacity. While the Governor's roles and responsibilities are outlined in the Penang State Constitution, Tun Ramli believes that the Governor's Office should also function as an informed part of government. "When the state assembly is in session, the Governor is essentially working too. When the state executive council convenes, the Governor is also involved in principle. The Governor has the right to know what is happening and to advise on issues that should be addressed,' he said. Tun Ramli stressed that he does not wish to be a mere figurehead, but a unifying voice and a conduit between the people and their leaders. Reflecting on his appointment, the Governor revealed that his name had been mentioned before, including four years ago, but no official approach was made at the time. While he was aware of recent speculation, he kept his expectations modest until the formal appointment. On April 24, Tun Ramli received his letter of appointment from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, at a ceremony at Istana Negara, making him Penang's ninth Governor effective May 1, 2025. He succeeded Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, who had served since May 1, 2021. Tun Ramli is the fourth individual appointed as Penang Governor who is not originally from the state. He was elected as the state assemblyman for Kampung Gajah in 1978 and made it to the Perak state executive council before becoming Perak's eighth Mentri Besar. He served for over 17 years until 1999, making him one of the longest-serving Menteri Besar in the country. Later, he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Pasir Salak and went on to chair the Public Accounts Committee. From 2004 to 2008, he served as the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat.- Bernama

Thailand, Cambodia have agree to ceasefire, says Anwar

Anwar said both countries had agreed but requested some time, as their troops were already stationed at the border and needed time to pull back. – Bernama photo JITRA (July 25): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said that Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to a ceasefire and to withdraw their troops from the border. Anwar said both countries had agreed but requested some time, as their troops were already stationed at the border and needed time to pull back. 'Yesterday, I had a phone conversation with the acting Prime Minister of Thailand and the Prime Minister of Cambodia, because of Malaysia's position and their respect for us. 'I'm grateful because when I spoke with them, both responded respectfully. Why? Because Malaysia is a peaceful and stable country,' he said when addressing the 2025 Anti-Drug Day Celebration here today. Yesterday, Bernama reported that the Prime Minister welcomed the positive signals and willingness shown by Bangkok and Phnom Penh in considering the implementation of a ceasefire to prevent further conflict. Anwar was reported to have contacted Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and acting Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai on Thursday evening to convey Malaysia's concern over the escalating tensions. Earlier, media reports stated that Thai and Cambodian troops clashed on Thursday in the disputed border area, with both sides blaming each other for initiating the latest confrontation. Tensions between the two Southeast Asian nations have been escalating since May 28, following a deadly incident in the Preah Vihear area that claimed the life of a Cambodian soldier. The two countries have been at odds for decades over their still-undemarcated 817-kilometre border, and the dispute continues to strain diplomatic relations. – Bernama anwar ibrahim border cambodia ceasefire diplomacy Thailand

Doulos Hope Draws 25,000 Visitors, Boosts Labuan's Economy

LABUAN, July 25 (Bernama) -- The arrival of Doulos Hope, the floating bookstore ship, has not only captivated the imagination of the Labuan community but also brought significant cultural and economic benefits, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa. Speaking during her visit to the vessel, Dr Zaliha said the presence of Doulos Hope has created an alternative avenue of engagement for the local community, allowing them not only to experience the floating book fair but also to step onboard and witness the unique life and mission of a ship crewed by more than 100 volunteers from over 30 countries. 'This is not just a bookstore on water, it is a bridge between cultures…the people of Labuan are enjoying the rare opportunity to meet and interact with individuals from around the world, enriching their perspectives,' she said. The Minister noted that the ship has attracted a continuous stream of visitors ranging from children and students to senior citizens and tour groups. 'I witnessed for myself the non-stop flow of people boarding the ship, all excited to explore what Doulos Hope offers…it is heartening to see the sense of curiosity and unity this vessel has brought to our shores,' she said. Dr Zaliha also highlighted the economic spillover sparked by the visit, as the ship's international crew and volunteers regularly patronise local eateries, cafes, and convenience stores, bringing supplies back to the ship and contributing to small business income. Doulos Hope director Nidhin Sebastian said the response from the public has been overwhelming, with nearly 25,000 visitors recorded since the ship's arrival in Labuan. 'It has been a joy to welcome so many aboard…we are grateful for the warmth and hospitality shown by the people of Labuan,' he said. The ship will remain docked in Labuan until July 28, continuing its mission to bring knowledge, help, and hope through books and intercultural engagement.
