Florida man breaks into stranger's to avoid angry wife, cooks and bathes— faces burglary charge
Charles allegedly told deputies that he had been using the home's water and electricity without permission. He reportedly stayed at the residence for four days to avoid a fight with his wife.
Now, he is facing charges of unarmed burglary and petit theft.
According to the arrest affidavit, police said that when they entered the residence, the stove was on, the lights were going, and a cellphone was plugged into a wall outlet.
'It's one of those things where you just have to grin and bear it,' the Polk County Sheriff's Office said, as per The Independent.
On June 15, the Sheriff's Office announced the arrest in a Facebook post filled with references to Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The post featured bear puns, jokes about bath temperature, and a hashtag:
#IfJoeIsConvictedHeWillSpendTimeBehindTheGuiltyLocksAndTheThreeBars.
'We assume the bath temperature was not too hot, nor too cold, but juuuuust right,' the post added.
Despite the humour, the post also made it clear Charles allegedly admitted to breaking in. Along with the official charges, he is being held on a $10,000 bond for burglary and $250 bond for theft. Authorities confirmed he has no prior theft arrests. Charles remains in custody as the case proceeds.

Who is Sean Gardner? Former gymnastics coach at Iowa academy arrested on child porn charges
A former coach at a well-known youth gymnastics center in Iowa was arrested after investigators found a large amount of child pornography at his home, as reported by the New York Post. The arrest comes years after he was accused of sexually abusing several young athletes. Agents searched his home and found hundreds of images of children. This booking photo provided by the Des Moines, Iowa, Polk County Sheriff's Office shows Sean Gardner on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025. (Polk County Sheriff's Office via AP) Who is Sean Gardner ? Sean Gardner, 38, was taken into custody by the FBI for producing child pornography. The investigation began after reports of inappropriate contact with gymnasts at Chow's Gymnastics and Dance Institute in West Des Moines, Iowa. The FBI said Gardner 'primarily targeted children' at gyms in Iowa, Mississippi, and Louisiana. He worked in those states for about ten years until 2014. Chow's Gymnastics is known for training Olympic gold medalists Shawn Johnson and Gabby Douglas, as reported by AP. Also Read: Rhode Island prosecutor tells cops to turn off bodycams as they arrest her for trespassing: 'I'm an AG' Gymnast's 2022 report to SafeSport sparked investigation Police in West Des Moines started investigating Gardner in March 2022. A gymnast reported his behavior to the US Center for SafeSport, which looks into sexual abuse in Olympic sports. The gymnast said Gardner touched her inappropriately during practices, asked personal questions like whether she was sexually active, and called her and others names such as 'idiots, sluts, and whores,' according to the Associated Press. In July 2022, four months later, Gardner was suspended by SafeSport for 'allegations of misconduct.' Chow's also removed him from his coaching position. At first, the gymnast chose not to press charges, and the case was paused. In April 2024, another gymnast came forward with new claims. She said she began lessons with Gardner in 2019, when she was 11 or 12, and thought of him as a 'father figure.' She later said he touched her inappropriately during exercises, had her perform stretches that made her uncomfortable, recorded her on his phone, and talked about his sex life. About 16 months later, police got a warrant to search Gardner's home. Hidden camera footage of girls found in 2024 search In May 2024, officers seized several electronic devices. They found hundreds of images and videos of girls between 6 and 14 years old. Many were nude, changing clothes, or using the bathroom. Investigators believe the footage came from a hidden camera at Jump'In Gymnastics in Purvis, Mississippi, and was recorded between 2017 and 2018. Police also found handwritten notes between Gardner and former students during the search.

Former Gymnastics Coach Sean Gardner Arrested on Child Pornography Charges After Years of Abuse Allegations
Sean Gardner (Image via Polk County Sheriff's Office via AP) The gymnastics world is facing another devastating scandal after former coach Sean Gardner was arrested in August 2025 on federal child pornography charges. His arrest comes more than three years after he was first suspended for alleged sexual misconduct with athletes, reigniting concerns about athlete safety in a sport still reeling from past abuse cases. Sean Gardner's Journey From Rising Coach to Accused Abuser Sean Gardner began his coaching career at Chow's Gymnastics and Dance Institute in West Des Moines, Iowa, a program known for producing Olympic champions like Shawn Johnson and Gabby Douglas. Joining the staff in 2018, he quickly moved up, working with junior Olympic teams and coordinating large competitions that brought in over 1,000 gymnasts each year. Gardner often described the role as his dream job, saying he wanted to inspire young athletes. But by March 2022, troubling reports emerged. A gymnast accused Gardner of using 'inappropriate spotting techniques,' touching her between the legs and on private areas. She also claimed he made sexual remarks and asked minors about their sex lives. Other athletes backed up these accounts, alleging similar conduct. SafeSport, the body established to oversee athlete protection in U.S. sports after the Larry Nassar scandal, suspended Gardner in mid-2022. Despite that, he found work as a surgical technologist while the investigation into his conduct dragged on. The Evidence That Changed Everything for Gardner The Chow's Gymnastics and Dance Institute (Image via AP Photo) The case escalated in May 2025 when federal agents searched Gardner's home. Investigators uncovered evidence that painted a chilling picture: • Hundreds of pornographic images of children, some as young as six. • Hidden cameras placed inside gym bathrooms in both Iowa and Mississippi. • Electronic devices filled with thousands of images and dozens of videos. • Footage directly showing Gardner tampering with one of the hidden cameras. • Secret recordings of an adult woman, believed to be his former girlfriend, filmed without her consent. Survivors Testimony against Sean Gardner Several gymnasts later came forward with their own stories, alleging years of inappropriate touching, forced stretches that exposed them, and sexual comments during practice. Some believed Gardner had secretly recorded them with his phone. Survivors described lasting trauma, including anxiety and a deep mistrust of authority figures. Their testimonies reignited anger over whether SafeSport and other institutions are doing enough to protect athletes, especially after the high-profile cases of Larry Nassar and John Geddert. Sean Gardner in Court Sean Gardner, 38, appeared in federal court in Des Moines on August 15, 2025. He faces charges of producing visual depictions of minors in sexually explicit conduct, a crime that carries a possible 30-year prison sentence. He is currently being held while awaiting extradition to Mississippi for additional charges. Authorities believe more victims may come forward as the investigation expands. Advocacy groups are urging survivors of abuse in sports to seek help and use available support systems. How Gardner's Case is a Reckoning for Gymnastics While Gardner's arrest is a deeply troubling development, it also serves as a stark reminder of the resilience of survivors who chose to speak out despite fear and stigma. Their voices pushed this case forward, even as the system lagged behind. The scandal highlights a broader cultural problem in gymnastics - one where prestige and reputation too often outweigh athlete safety. It echoes a troubling pattern: no matter how well-known the coach or respected the gym, silence can be broken and justice pursued, even if it takes years. If you or someone you know has been affected by sexual abuse, help is available through the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE. Two mechanised boats attacked; over ₹35 lakh-worth seer fish stolen
In a mid-sea attack on two mechanised boats from Tharuvaikulam in Thoothukudi district, high sea robbers stole over 3.50 tonnes of premium seer or king fishes, popularly known as 'vanjiram' worth more than ₹35 lakh, off Kanniyakumari coast on Saturday morning. When mechanised boat 'George 4' of Tharuvaikulam was returning to its base with 10 crew and driver Charles after week-long stay fishing in the high seas, the robbers, who had come in 15 fibre glass boats, intercepted the mechanised boat in the guise of fishermen even as the larger vessel was beyond 10 nautical miles off Kanniyakumari coast. As the sea was rough at that time, the robbers could easily stop the slowly moving mechanised boat, boarded the vessel with weapons and assaulted Mr. Charles first in a bid to halt the boat, police said. 'The robbers, who were carrying lethal weapons like machetes, swords and knives, threatened everyone in our boat. They seized our mobile phones and assaulted us. After thrashing us for a few minutes, they looted our priceless catches, all premium 'seela' or 'vanjiram' (seer or king fish). They looted over 3 tonnes of seer fish from our cold storage and loaded the booty in their fibre glass boats before fleeing. We immediately alerted our boat owner Michael George about the robbery,' said Mr. Charles. When the robbers were returning to the shore, they targeted another mechnaised boat 'Geraldon', also from Tharuvaikulam, from which they looted ₹5 lakh worth fishes, mostly seer fish. 'The second boat, which was actually going from Tharuvaikulam for multi-day deep sea stay, was targeted by the robbers after this boat had just completed their first harvest in high seas. In all, the robbers looted over ₹35 lakh-worth premium fishes from two mechanised boats of Tharuvaikulam. We've informed the Tharuvaikulam marine police and Tharuvaikulam police for appropriate action and to recover the booty from the robbers,' he said. Sources in the Fisheries Department said the liner hooks of the fibre glass country boat fishermen released in the high seas beyond 10 nautical miles got entangled in the propeller of these mechanised boats and hence the fishermen had attacked the boats and looted the fishes. Superintendent of Police, Kanniyakumari, R. Stalin said he had instructed the Inspector of Police, Kanniyakumari to visit Chinna Muttom and Kanniyakumari and to take appropriate action based on his findings. A peace meeting was conducted in the evening with both sides and the issue has been 'amicable sorted out', the SP informed.
