Dharmasthala case: Siddaramaiah says SIT chief will be replaced if he goes on Central govt duty
There has been speculation that Director General of Police (Internal Security Division) Pronab Mohanty, who has found a place in the list of empanelment of Director General-rank officers to serve in the Union government released by the Centre, will be replaced as the SIT chief.
When reporters questioned whether the SIT chief in the Dharmasthala case will be replaced, Siddaramaiah said, 'Let's see. If he (Mohanty) goes to central government (he will be replaced)…'
Home Minister Parameshwara said, 'There are a lot of misconceptions on this. As the government wanted a senior official of DG ranking to head the SIT, Mohanty was appointed. Meanwhile, Mohanty's name has come in the central government deputation list."
'We have not taken any decision in this regard, whether to send him on central government's deputation or not. It comes under Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) and the Chief Minister.'
When asked of SIT chief was being replaced to divert the attention from the case, he said, 'What is the government's interest in this? Why would we have formed (SIT) if that was the case? The government only wants the truth to come out. So SIT was formed and once it submits the report after completing the probe the facts will come out. This is what we want. I think this is what people too want.'
The SIT was formed by the Congress-led Karnataka government after claims about alleged mass murders, rape and mass burials in Dharmasthala over the past 20 years.
The incident came to light when a sanitation worker claimed that he was forced to bury a number of bodies in Dharmasthala when he worked there between 1995 to 2014. He said he also buried bodies of women and children.
He had alleged that some of the bodies showed signs of sexual assault. He has also given a statement before a magistrate in this regard.

BJP slams Congress over poll rigging allegations, Tipu-KRS claims in Karnataka
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) flayed the Congress for its allegations of 'vote theft' and claims that the foundation stone for the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) in Karnataka was laid by Tipu Sultan. Addressing media persons in Mysuru on August 7, BJP Mysuru district president and former MLA L. Nagendra and senior party functionary M.A. Mohan accused Congress of spreading misinformation, distorting history, and attempting to divert public attention from its failures in governance. Responding to the claims by Congress spokesperson M. Lakshman that about 1.45 lakh votes that ideally should have gone to the Congress, was 'diverted' to the BJP, Mr. Nagendra said such statements are without basis, and are misleading. 'Mr. Lakshman should realise that he got far more votes in this parliamentary election than in any previous contest where he was repeatedly defeated. If votes were truly stolen, how did he manage to lead in the N.R. Assembly constituency? Why no complaints there?'' The BJP accused the Congress of playing a fraud on voters by trying to bribe them, and yet was defeated. Mr. Nagendra said the Lok Sabha elections were free and fair, and people voted for BJP candidate Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar given his calibre and the contribution of the Wadiyars of Mysuru to Karnataka. 'People have made their choice. Creating confusion now is irresponsible,' he added. On Mr. Lakshman's allegation of 'missing votes', Mr. Mohan said, 'Even Congress workers don't see him as a deserving candidate. Let him introspect instead of blaming EVMs or the BJP, and also answer how the Congress won 136 seats in the 2023 Assembly elections,' said Mr. Mohan. The BJP described the allegations as a diversionary tactic adopted by the Congress to mislead people and draw their attention away from administrative collapse in Karnataka. The Congress has raised the prices of essential commodities while local body elections have not been conducted, as the ruling party is 'reluctant' to face voters, said Mr. Nagendra and Mr. Mohan. Ridiculing the Congress narrative that Tipu Sultan laid the foundation for the KRS dam, Mr. Mohan said the Srirangapatna fort existed before Tipu and Hyder Ali. 'If left unchallenged, the Congress will credit construction of Vani Vilas Sagar dam in Chitradurga — which was built by the Wadiyars — to Tipu Sultan,' he added. Mr. Mohan questioned the 'selective glorification' of Tipu Sultan by Congress. 'Other dynasties too have made tremendous contribution to Karnataka culture, including the Chalukyas, Hoysalas, and Vijayanagara kings. Rahul Gandhi flags over 1 lakh voter ‘discrepancies' in Karnataka, alleges EC colluding with BJP
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accused the Election Commission of colluding with the Bharatiya Janata Party during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He alleged that in Karnataka's Mahadevepura Assembly constituency alone, there were discrepancies in 1,00,250 names in the electoral roll. Gandhi alleged that out of these, there were 11,965 duplicate voters, 40,009 voters with fake or invalid addresses, 10,454 'bulk voters' registered in a single address, 4,132 voters with invalid photographs and 33,692 voters in whose cases there had allegedly been misuse of Form 6. The Election Commission's Form 6 is an application document for registering new voters. Mahaedevapura is part of the Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha constituency, which the BJP's PC Mohan won last year. Gandhi alleged that the Election Commission deliberately does not give political parties electronic data on voter lists as it does not want them to scrutinise the document carefully. He claimed that it took the Congress six months to identify discrepancies in the voter list of just the Mahadevapura Assembly segment. 'If the Election Commission had given us electronic data, it would have taken only 30 seconds,' he remarked. The leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said that the papers also do not support optical character recognition, which would have allowed for data to be extracted by scanning them. However, the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka asked Gandhi to send the names of electors who had been allegedly wrongly included or excluded 'so that necessary proceedings can be initiated', PTI reported.
