Statkraft—Europe's largest renewable power company—announced its intention on October 23 last year to exit the Indian business.
In a statement from its global chief executive officer Birgitte Ringstad Vartdal, the company said it was prioritising investments in Norway, Europe and South America. It had forayed into India in 2001. It owns wind and solar power assets in Rajasthan with 1.5 GW capacity. It also owns two operational hydro power plants at Malana and Allain Duhangan in Himachal Pradesh with both being 49:51 joint ventures with India's LNJ Bhilwara group. Its portfolio also includes two under construction hydropower assets at Tidong in Himachal Pradesh and Kedarnath in Uttarakhand, respectively.
ET first reported on April 11 that as many as 15 entities including Adani Green Energy and Serentica Renewables were in the fray to acquire Statkraft's Indian assets.

After Trump's ‘dead economy' remark, Modi calls India fastest growing economy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India is rapidly advancing toward becoming the world's third-largest economy, a momentum driven by the spirit of 'reform, perform and transform.' Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses the gathering during the foundation stone laying of the Bangalore Metro Phase-3 project worth over ₹ 15,610 crore, in Bengaluru on Sunday. (DPR PMO) The Prime Minister's remarks came just days after US President Donald Trump's jibe calling India 'a dead economy.' Modi highlighted that in the past 11 years, India's economy has moved from the 10th position to the top five globally, and is on track to join the top three. Speaking at the foundation stone ceremony for Bangalore Metro Phase-3, while flagging off three Vande Bharat Express trains and inaugurating the Metro Rail Yellow line, Modi outlined India's growth across sectors, reinforcing the resolve for Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). 'We are moving fast to become one of the top three economies of the world. How we got this speed? We got it through the spirit of reform, perform and transform,' he said, adding that this speed was achieved through 'clear intention and honest efforts.' On infrastructure, Modi added that metro rail services were limited to five cities in 2014, but now cover over 1,000 km across 24 cities, making India the third-largest metro network globally. Electrification of the rail network has doubled from 20,000 km before 2014 to 40,000 km as of 2025. Airports have increased from 74 to more than 160, and national waterways have expanded from 3 to 30. 'Till 2014, there were 7 All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and 387 medical colleges. It has now gone up to 22 AIIMS and 704 medical colleges, that are serving the people,' he said. Modi said the lives of the poor and marginalised are transforming alongside India's rapid progress. 'Before 2014 the total export was USD 468 billion but today it is USD 824 billion. We used to import mobile phones but now we are the top five exporters of mobile handsets. Our electronic export before 2014 was USD 6 billion which has gone up to USD 38 billion,' he said. India's automobile exports have also more than doubled, making it the fourth-largest automobile exporter globally. 'These achievements give strength to our concept of Atmanirbhar Bharat. We will march together, and build a developed India.' The Prime Minister said India's next big priority should be self-reliance in technology. Indian tech companies have gained global recognition, developing software and products worldwide. With PTI inputs

In tech city, PM Modi calls for tech self-reliance, says India on course to top 3 economies

Describing India as 'the fastest-growing major economy in the world', Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Sunday that it is in the top five globally and is 'rapidly progressing' to 'becoming one of the top three economies'. Addressing a gathering at IIIT-Bangalore emphasised that amidst evolving problems, India's next big priority should be becoming self-reliant in technology and that it was time for Indian tech companies to prioritise the country's own needs. 'Our next big priority should be becoming self-reliant in technology. Indian tech companies have made a mark globally, developing software and products for the entire world. It is now time to prioritise India's own needs more strongly and accelerate the development of new products, especially as software and apps are now being used across every domain,' he said after inaugurating critical mobility infrastructure projects in Bengaluru. He inaugurated the 19.16-km Yellow Line of Bengaluru Metro worth Rs 7,160 crore, thus expanding the city's metro network to 96 km. He also laid the foundation stone of Bengaluru Metro Phase-3 project, worth over Rs 15,610 crore, and flagged off three Vande Bharat Express trains at KSR Railway Station, Bengaluru. Vande Bharat trains were launched between Bengaluru and Belagavi, Nagpur and Pune, and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Amritsar. Modi also took a Metro ride on the newly inaugurated metro line from Ragigudda Metro station to Electronic City station. Modi said it is essential for India to reach new heights in emerging fields. Calling for focused efforts, he stressed the need to strengthen Bengaluru and Karnataka's presence in Make-in-India and the manufacturing sector. He said India's products must adhere to the Zero Defect, Zero Effect standard, meaning they should be flawless in quality and have no negative impact on the environment. Underlining India's economic strides, he said, 'India is currently the fastest-growing major economy in the world. In the past 11 years, India's economy has risen from the 10th position to the top five globally, and is rapidly progressing toward becoming one of the top three economies.' He attributed this momentum to the spirit of 'Reform, Perform and Transform', driven by 'clear intent' and 'honest efforts'. He highlighted that before 2014, India's total exports had reached only $468 billion whereas today, that figure has risen to $824 billion. He also remarked that earlier, India used to import mobile phones, but now, the country is among the top five exporters of mobile handsets. He noted that Bengaluru has played a significant role in this transformation and that India's electronics exports now have increased to nearly $38 billion from $6 billion. He also highlighted that 11 years ago, India's automobile exports stood at approximately $16 billion and that figure has more than doubled, making India the fourth-largest automobile exporter globally. Acknowledging the contribution of the youth of Bengaluru and Karnataka in Operation Sindoor, Modi highlighted the success of Indian forces in the operation, noting their capability to destroy terrorist hideouts deep across the border. He attributed the success of Operation Sindoor to the power of technology and the strength of Make-in-India in the defence sector. Liu led a CPC delegation that attended the Liberation Movements Summit in South Africa on July 28, according to the official media here. Live Events The news of Liu's detention, coming ahead of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to be held in China's Tianjin city later this month, sent shock waves across the Chinese official and diplomatic circles. The summit of the 10-member SCO is scheduled to take place from August 31 to September 1. As a Minister of the International Department of the CPC, Liu wielded considerable influence over China's foreign policy, though Wang Yi is the Foreign Minister. Liu was one of the top officials who External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met during his visit here on July 14 and discussed the progress of the normalisation of the relations after last year's meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Russia ending the over four year's freeze in ties due the military standoff in eastern Ladakh. Hailing from the Chinese province of Jilin, Liu studied international relations at Oxford University and later joined the Chinese foreign ministry, where he served in various capacities, including as its spokesman. He also served in CPC's Central Discipline Commission (CDS), which investigated thousands of officials for corruption and indiscipline since Xi took over as leader of the party in 2012. The officials indicted by the CDS included two Defence Ministers, besides scores of generals of the Chinese military.
