The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 is heating up, but Real Madrid fans are gutted to learn that their star forward, Kylian Mbappé, won't be taking the field against Pachuca on June 22 in Charlotte, North Carolina. This Group H showdown is a big one, and Mbappé's absence is a hot topic. So, what's keeping the French superstar out of this crucial match? Let's break it down. Reason for Mbappé's Absence
Kylian's down with a rough case of acute gastroenteritis, a brutal stomach bug that had him in a Miami hospital earlier this week. Word from Marca and Real Madrid's camp is that he needed tests and some serious TLC. He's out of the hospital now, but he's not quite ready to run around in Charlotte's insane 35°C heat with humidity that feels like a sauna. The guy's human, not a machine, so the club's playing it safe. How Mbappé's Absence Affects Real Madrid
Mbappé's no small loss. The guy's been a goal-scoring machine, racking up 43 goals this season and clinching both the European Golden Shoe and La Liga's Pichichi Trophy. Without him, Real Madrid's attack takes a hit, especially after their lackluster draw against Al Hilal. The team's also dealing with other injuries—Endrick's out with a hamstring issue, and defenders like Dani Carvajal and Éder Militão are sidelined. Thankfully, Antonio Rüdiger is back to bolster the defense.
Stepping up in Mbappé's place is 21-year-old academy star Gonzalo García, who scored against Al Hilal and is set to lead the line against Pachuca. Fans are also looking to Vinícius Jr. and Jude Bellingham to bring some magic. Alonso's been clear: 'Vini needs to be the difference-maker.' It's a tall order, but this squad's got depth. Real Madrid vs. Pachuca: What to Expect
Pachuca, fresh off a 2-1 loss to Salzburg, will be no pushover. The Mexican side, led by Salomón Rondón and managed by interim boss Jaime Lozano, is hungry for an upset. Real Madrid beat Pachuca 3-0 in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final last December, but without Mbappé and with Pachuca's new energy, this match could be tighter. When Will Mbappé Return?
The good news? Mbappé's recovery is on track. Alonso hinted he could be back for the Salzburg game, saying, 'We're hopeful he'll be ready soon.'

Details of first Manchester City offer for Rodrygo Goes revealed

Real Madrid are yet to make any major sales this summer, with most of their outgoings limited to the exits of veterans and Castilla players. However Brazilian star Rodrygo Goes is the one that seems like a possible departure in the final weeks of the transfer window. Los Blancos have made it clear that they are open to offers, and Rodrygo appears to be keen on a switch to the Premier League. Arsenal and Liverpool have been most strongly linked to Rodrygo for the majority of the summer, with the former enquiring about a loan offer for Rodrygo with an option or obligation to buy next year. Liverpool will only pursue Rodrygo if their move for Alexander Isak fails. Manchester City interest in Rodrygo returns However this week it has emerged that Manchester City have revived their interest in Rodrygo. Their decision to move very much hinges on a potential exit for Savinho, who is on the agenda at Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs must meet City's asking price, which is beyond €50-60m. Yet sources close to the matter have indicated to Football España that if they do reach a deal for Savinho, then City will launch into negotiations without delay. Image viaManchester City have initial proposal in mind Depending on the resolution of the Savinho deal, City intend to come to Real Madrid with an offer worth €80m plus an extra €20m in variables. Arsenal and Liverpool are yet to discuss such high figures as things stand. Agent Pini Zahavi is working on the matter, and Paris Saint-Germain are keeping an eye on the situation. Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia are also interested, but Rodrygo wants to remain in Europe. It is an offer that could lead to a deal with Real Madrid. Previously it has been said that Florentino Perez would accept an offer in the range of €100m, with €80m the minimum in a fixed fee they would consider. From there, it would seem City and Real Madrid might be able to find a middle point.

Friendlies: Real Madrid win big, Bayern youngsters impress, Inter draw

Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Inter were all in action across Tuesday's club friendlies. Here's how the action unfolded in all three games ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. Inter denied win at the death by MonzaScorers: Ciurria 32'; Birindelli (OG) 45+1', Espositio 52' Inter came from behind to defeat Monza 2-1 in their penultimate pre-season friendly. Cristian Chivu left many of his big guns on the bench to start with, and saw his side go behind on the half hour mark. Wing-back Patrick Ciurria was the scorer, tapping home at the back post after a fine cross into the box. from Gianluca Caprari. The man on the other flank, Samuele Birindelli, was the unfortunate scorer of Inter's equaliser in added time before the break, powering a header into his own bet from Federico Dimarco's cross. Francesco Esposito turned the game on its head early into the second half, instinctively flicking home Matteo Darmian's shot, as the youngster once again showed why he could be one to look out for this season. However, there was a sting in the tail late, late on as Paulo Azzi struck to grab Monza a draw. Inter conclude their pre-season with a home clash with Olympiacos on Saturday. New No.10 Mbappé leads the way in four-star Madrid showScorers: Militão 10', Mbappé 13', 59', Rodrygo 81' Real Madrid made extremely light work of surprise early Austrian Bundesliga leader WSG Tirol with a 4-0 win. The game was near-over as a contest after just 13 minutes with a quickfire double from Éder Militão and Kylian Mbappé. The Brazilian looped a header in before the French forward took a ball beautifully on the turn from Arda Güler and smashed home for his first goal wearing the No.10 shirt. His second came after the break, and after a pitch invader got a selfie with him, and it was another sublime finish, as he rolled the ball over his foot to sidestep the Tirol keeper and tap home. Rodrygo came off the bench to add a late fourth, and perhaps remind Xabi Alonso of his worth amid reports of a move away. The new Los Blancos boss will now set his sights on his side's La Liga opener against Osasuna at the Bernabéu in a week's time. Bayern youngsters steal the showScorers: Karl 20', Kusi-Asare 26'; Giandomenico 51' Bayern Munich edged Grasshoppers Zurich to a 2-1 victory to cap pre-season. 17-year-old starlet Lennart Karl produced a moment of quality on the 20-minute mark to give his side the lead, firing an unstoppable, dipping effort into the net from 25 yards out. Another Bayern academy graduate, Jonah Kusi-Asare, added a second just five minutes later, latching onto Karl's through ball and lashing into the top corner. The Bundesliga side couldn't extend their lead before the break and Grasshoppers pulled a goal back shortly after half time through Loris Giandomenico's fierce first-time volley from a tight angle. Vincent Kompany made seven changes on the hour mark and two substitutes almost combined for a third when Dayot Upamecano's hooked volley from Joshua Kimmich's cross hit the crossbar. Although Bayern couldn't find a third, they remained on top and saw out a comfortable win to end pre-season with two victories ahead of their season opener in the Supercup against Stuttgart. 📸 Marco Luzzani - 2025 Getty Images

1924 Hispano-Suiza Tulipwood Torpedo Wins Best of Show at 2025 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance

The winner of the 2025 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is a worthy one. Thought be some to be the most famous French car of all time, and now surely the most famous Spanish-Swiss car of them all, the 1924 Hispano-Suiza H6C Nieuport-Astra Torpedo, more commonly referred to as the Tulipwood Torpedo, beat out all other contenders and class winners at this year's main event. Owned by Penny and Lee Anderson Sr. of Naples, Florida, the Tulipwood underwent and expensive and meticulous restoration by RM Auto Restoration, meaning that RM has had nine of its restorations win the big award, a record. 'Winning Pebble Beach is probably the highest award you can win,' says Lee Anderson Sr. 'We're lucky to have won it twice.' Which indeed the Andersons did in 2022 with their stunning 1932 Duesenberg Model J Figoni Sports Torpedo, also restored by RM. As much of a Duesey as that Duesenberg is, this year's winner is even more special. Commissioned by André Dubonnet, a World War I ace fighter pilot and heir to the Dubonnet aperitif fortune who became an Olympic bobsledder and race car driver, the Tulipwood was built on the famed Hispano Suiza Boulogne chassis and powered by an 8.0-liter H6C inline-six engine good for 45 hp. The Tulipwood's pièce de resistance is its literally stunning, boat-inspired mahogany bodywork designed by Henri Chasseriaux and built by Nieuport-Astra. It is made up of dozens eighth of an inch thick pieces of wood secured over three-quarter inch ribs with thousands of aluminum rivets, the body was extremely lightweight and is said to weigh just 160 pounds. This combination helped Dubonnet to place sixth in the 1924 Targa Florio and fifth in the same year's Coppa Florio. As with anything a century old and made from wood, the restoration was a massive undertaking. According to RM, the multi-year project required more than 12,000 hours and nearly two years of research and restoration to exacting specifications. Much of the mahogany was intact, and RM was able to source 100-year-old wood for the restoration. Coincidently, the Andersons purchased this Hispano-Suiza at the 2022 RM Sotheby's auction at Pebble Beach because they were told the car had a good chance of winning Best of Show. Asked what he thought of the Tulipwood Torpedo when he first saw it pre-restoration, Anderson Sr. said, 'It's a beautiful piece of furniture. 'This car is simply a masterpiece. Every angle, every detail—it's as wild as it gets for 1924 and was so far ahead of its time,' said Gord Duff, President, RM Sotheby's. 'To me, this is the Mona Lisa of cars. I never imagined years ago that our company would be involved in the sale of this car, let alone serve as the restoration firm to return it to its original glory. The fact that our team was entrusted to restore something this important is an incredible honor.'
