Government employees protested for a fourth consecutive day on Tuesday, demanding the repeal of the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance 2025, which has halted administrative functions at the Bangladesh Secretariat and barred outsider entry.
Issued by the President and gazetted on Sunday evening, the ordinance empowers the government to terminate employees for four categories of disciplinary violations through a show-cause notice, without initiating formal departmental proceedings.
At around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, members of the specialist SWAT unit were seen stationed at the main entrance of the Secretariat. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were also deployed outside.

The protest began around 11:00 a.m. outside Building No. 6 in the Secretariat's Badamtoli sector, amid heightened security at all gates.
Stringent security measures remain in place, with government employees continuing their demonstrations against the newly enacted ordinance, which was gazetted shortly after staff voiced opposition and four days after the advisory council approved its draft.
Only Secretariat officials and staff are being permitted entry. The Ministry of Home Affairs had earlier announced on Monday that visitors would not be allowed into the premises today.

VIJAYAWADA: The Cabinet sub-committee for introducing reforms in Revenue department directed the officials to prepare proposals for abolition of NALA Act. The Cabinet committee led by Minister for Revenue Anagani Satya Prasad, Minister Payyavula Keshav and Minister P Narayana met at the Secretariat on Wednesday and discussed on the NALA Act. Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Finance Payyavula Keshav said that the officials were asked to prepare draft proposals for abolition of NALA Act. He said for using agricultural land for other purposes, people are forced to make rounds to different offices and after noticing the problems of people, Chief Minister Chadnrababu Naidu announced abolition of NALA Act during thea Collectors' conference. The Minister said officials were asked to prepare proposals to make the procedure easy in which people who are developing ventures and utilising the agricultural land for other purposes can get land transformation by paying necessary tax without making rounds to offices. He said based on the complaints of people, the State government decided to abolish NALA Act and reduce land tax. The Minister said the issue will be discussed in the cabinet meeting to be held on June 19.

Consider establishing Civil Aviation University in Visakhapatnam: Naidu
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has suggested to officials to consider establishing a Civil Aviation University in Visakhapatnam. Chairing a meeting to review the progress of construction terminal buildings at the Vijayawada International Airport, at the Secretariat on Wednesday (June 11, 2025), Mr. Naidu emphasised the need to improve connectivity from the airports in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and other locations to various domestic and international cities. Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, senior Ministry officials, and Chairman of the Airports Authority of India attended the meeting virtually. The Chief Minister instructed that the design of the terminal buildings at the Vijayawada airport be attractive and unique. He issued instructions regarding the construction of the terminal building, ramp connectivity to the national highway, etc. 'The terminal elevation, departure and arrival blocks, and passenger lounges should reflect Andhra Pradesh's cultural heritage in their design. Traditional dance forms such as Kuchipudi, Kondapalli toys, Amaravati motifs, and Lepakshi artworks should be incorporated into the architectural design,' he said. Mr. Rammohan Naidu also briefed the Chief Minister on the progress of the terminal building construction in Kadapa and Rajamahendravaram. He said technical feasibility reports were underway for new airports at Dagadarthi, Kuppam, and Palasa. Regarding the Amaravati airport, a land survey was in progress. A report from the RITES team was expected soon. Once the land pooling process was completed, the project could be initiated in two years. Operations at the Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam airports have increased by 40%. Airline operators are coming forward to enhance domestic connectivity from airports in Vijayawada, Tirupati, Rajamahendravaram, and Kurnool. TruJet has expressed interest in operating flights from Visakhapatnam to various locations starting October. Additionally, flights between Vijayawada–Singapore and Tirupati–Muscat are expected to commence soon. Seaplane operations are also scheduled to begin after September. The Union Minister said that Qatar Aviation Fund was showing interest in investing near the Bhogapuram airport, a press release said.
