‘Thunderbolts*' stuntman reveals embarrassing first interaction with Florence Pugh

New York Post26-05-2025

Hey there, Miss Flo.
'Thunderbolts*' stunt performer Joe Dryden exclusively told The Post that he had an embarrassing first interaction with the star of Marvel's new blockbuster movie.
Dryden recalled being decked out in a brunette wig, an oversized helmet and glasses to film Bucky Barnes' (Sebastian Stan) infamous motorcycle scene when he met Pugh, 29.

The New York Post
'I just remember being in this thing and obviously my friends are laughing and we're having good jokes and we are having a giggle about it,' he said. 'I knew what I looked like and I felt ridiculous. And then I was sitting on the bike and we were lining up for a shot and I was getting ready to go and I see this SUV pull in. It's all blacked out and right away I'm like, 'Oh, it's the cast, I'm sure.''
'The door opens and Florence walks out,' Dryden continued. 'And I just remember sitting there thinking like, 'Ugh, I can't believe I'm wearing this helmet right now.''

Dryden called Pugh 'brilliant' and said that he 'was such a fan' of her past work, including 'Oppenheimer,' before they met.
But he didn't lose focus on the job just because of his fandom.
'I see her right away. I'm like, '[Look] straight ahead, just do your job. It's fine. No big deal,'' Dryden explained. 'And I can see her out of my peripherals walking over. And I was like, 'Oh, come on.' And she's so sweet.'
'She comes over and introduces herself. She's like, 'I'm Florence,' and I'm like, 'I'm Joe, nice to meet you.' And she's like, 'I've seen some of the dailies and you're doing some amazing stuff. It's incredible, it looks so good,'' he recalled. 'And I was just like, 'I can't believe I'm wearing this helmet and goggles right now.''
Dryden noted the irony that Pugh, Stan, 42, and the rest of the 'Thunderbolts*' cast joked about his wig and helmet look when they appeared on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' last month.
Kimmel, 57, pulled up the embarrassing picture of Dryden and said that he 'went to the worst wig person.'
Both Pugh and Stan, 42, praised called Dryden's work and called him 'one of the best motorcyclists' in the country.

Dryden, who posted a clip of the interview moment on Instagram, told The Post how he learned about the late-night interaction.
'Somebody sent it to me. I didn't see it originally. Somebody sent to me and then I reposted it on my page,' he shared. 'And that thing just, like, caught fire. I think it's got almost 500,000 views on my page, which I only have, like, 7,000 followers. It was pretty funny.'

Dryden continued, 'I knew what I looked like and I knew it was ridiculous. But I also know the ins and outs of it all. It's easier for VFX to shrink down my head a little bit and the hair movement is natural and it's just easier. And also I will always wear a helmet if I'm given the option, no matter how ridiculous I look. I'm totally fine with that.'

The stunt coordinator noted he's not offended by Wyatt Russell jokingly saying on Kimmel's show that his wig looked like an animal.
'It really is hilarious because it's exactly how I felt,' he said. 'I'm a good sport about it and I just think it is really funny. And sometimes it's cool that the audience and fans get a little bit of a peek behind the scenes.'
'Thunderbolts*' is in theaters now.

Drink it in: The first full look at Fantastic Four's Galactus is here – thanks to a Snapple promotion. While we've had brief glimpses of the Devourer of Worlds stomping his way through 1960s New York in the early Fantastic Four trailers, we haven't seen the entire figure of the Ralph Ineson-voiced villain. Until now, that is. As you can see below (H/T Galactus is sporting his comic-accurate headgear and – if you ask us, anyway – the face looks modelled slightly on Ralph Ineson, which is a neat touch. There's also more Snapple-related Fantastic Four promos abound. Artist Dylan Schepers is even showcasing most of the work on his website, as well as the flavors tied to each hero. If you're curious, Reed Richards is Snapple Apple, Sue Storm is Peach Tea, Johnny Storm is Peach Tea Zero Sugar, and Ben Grimm is Kiwi Strawberry. If you've been following along, you'll know that this isn't the only Fantastic Four leak in recent days. Thanks to a wave of upcoming Funko Pops, we now know that Sue Storm will seemingly give birth during the course of the Marvel Phase 6 entry, with son Franklin Richards playing some sort of role in the narrative. Fantastic Four, starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn, hits cinemas on July 25. For more, check out the upcoming Marvel movies headed into cinemas over the next few years. Then catch up on the story so far with the Marvel timeline and how to watch the Marvel movies in order.

Fantastic Four co-writer tried to have "a classic Galactus" as the "big bad" in the 2015 Marvel movie, but "internal push back" stopped it

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. The co-writer of 2015's Fantastic Four, Jeremy Slater, has talked about the MCU's upcoming take on Marvel's First Family – and Galactus. "I'm excited. I like the fact that they are taking a big creative swing," he told ComicBook. "They are telling a multiverse story, with a different world and a different set of heroes. It looks like they are bringing them in collision with our Marvel Cinematic Universe. I think that is a smart angle. I think they are getting Galactus right. "I wanted to make him our big bad and there was some internal push back," he continued. "First, he was our big bad. Then, he was just going to appear in one scene. Then, he was only appearing in the post-credits scene. Coming off the Galactus cloud from [2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer], which I was one of those fanboys probably bitching on Ain't It Cool News back then about how he was a fucking cloud, I was excited to bring back a classic Galactus and have that Jack Kirby design. It looked like they've accomplished that, so I can't wait to see him in real life." The first look at Galactus in The Fantastic Four: First Steps came from a very unlikely place – a Snapple promotion. He certainly looks very comic accurate. "The most epic of the most epic that you can imagine," producer Grant Curtis has said of the villain. "Because that's the global stakes we're dealing with, the universal stakes we're dealing with," he continued. "That's Galactus. When Galactus's gaze comes across your planet, you're not in a good spot. I think that's as big of a scope and scale you could ever ask a villain to bring with him or her. And that is what Galactus brings... One of the beautiful things about working with Kevin Feige and with [director] Matt Shakman, they are totally in on sci-fi." The Fantastic Four: First Steps is in theaters this July 25. In the meantime, check out our guide to all the upcoming Marvel movies and shows for everything else that's on the way.
