Indian Railways announces new rules for Tatkal tickets from July. What are they?
Indian Railways has announced new rules for passengers looking to book tickets under the Tatkal category starting July 1.
The rules are expected to make ticket booking easier for the passengers and avoid fraud during the process. The new rules come amid passenger complaints regarding tickets vanishing owing to agents and bots. However, the changes in the rules might provide relief to travellers, and give them the upper hand while booking Tatkal tickets.
According to the changes announced by the Indian Railways, tickets under the Tatkal scheme can be booked only by Aadhaar-authenticated users starting July 1.
According to a circular by the railway ministry, the tickets 'can be booked through the website of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC)/ its app only by Aadhaar authenticated users.' Once this rule kicks in, OTP authentication via Aadhaar-linked mobile number will also be introduced by July 15, PTI reported.
'Indian Railways will soon start using e-Aadhaar authentication to book Tatkal tickets. This will help genuine users get confirmed tickets during need," union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had posted last week on X.
Moreover, the ministry has also announced that the ticket bookings for authorised agents will be opened 30 minutes after the actual timings. This means that the agents will not be able to book Tatkal tickets from 10.00 am to 10.30 am for air-conditioned coaches and from 11.00 am to 11.30 am for non-air-conditioned coaches, as per PTI.
'Even authorised IRCTC agents will not be able to book tatkal tickets during this initial phase, even if they have multiple user IDs and emails,' an official earlier told Hindustan Times.
On the use of AI tools for bookings, the official said that over 24 million users had been blocked by IRCTC during the past six months, and another 2 million were under investigation for the same.

Timbadia, who is in his late 60s, revealed that the London-bound flight was originally booked by his son, who lives in the UK. 'My son, who stays in London, had earlier booked this flight. A seat number was also allotted to me, but I postponed my departure by four days,' he said. 'I did not realise that this decision would save my life. After the crash, my son called me up from London and told me that my good deeds in this life saved me,' Timbadia added. The Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, carrying 242 passengers and crew, crashed into a medical college complex in Ahmedabad shortly after take-off on Thursday morning. Nearly all onboard were killed in the incident, including former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.

Plane crash: Railways to run two special trains from Ahmedabad to Mumbai and Delhi
In light of the tragic Air India 171 plane crash, Western Railways is running two special trains from Ahmedabad to Delhi and Ahmedabad to Mumbai, a spokesperson from the Ministry of Railways said on Thursday (June 12, 2025). Ahmedabad - Delhi special train 09497 will leave Ahmedabad on June 12 at 11.45 p.m. and reach Delhi at 2.30 p.m. on June 13. Similarly, Delhi - Ahmedabad special train 09498 will leave Delhi on June 13 at 5.30 p.m. and reach Ahmedabad at 8.30 a.m. in the morning on June 14. Both services are Third Air-Conditioned (3AC) category trains and will stop at Mehsana, Palanpur, Abu Road, Marwad, Ajmer, Jaipur, Alwar, Rewari, Gurgaon and Delhi Cantt. Also, Ahmedabad - Mumbai Central Superfast Special will leave Ahmedabad at 11.55 p.m. on June 12 and reach Mumbai Central at 8.10 a.m. Similarly, Mumbai Central - Ahmedabad Superfast Special will depart from Mumbai Central at 11.10 a.m. on June 13 and reach Ahmedabad at 7.30 p.m on the same day. Both trains will stop at Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Vapi and Borivali stations. Bookings for trains 09497, 09494 and 09493 are open on Tatkal basis at passenger reservation system counters and IRCTC website. The upcoming high-performance electric sedan was hinted at earlier this year, and it builds on the success of the Ioniq 5 N, which was launched two years ago. Hyundai is aiming to expand its N portfolio of high-performance variants with the Ioniq 6 N being the latest entry on the list. While the teaser images do not reveal much, they do show off the electric sedan's silhouette, rear wing, and taillights, among other details. The Ioniq 6 N carries over the design changes made with the MY26 Ioniq 6, comprising an aerodynamically streamlined design with a sharp bonnet and sleek LED DRLs. It features flared-out fenders, which bring a much wider stance, and gets new lightweight wheels. The rear end features a ducktail spoiler and a large wing, designed through numerous tests for aerodynamic efficiency.
