‘Adolescence' Netflix Team On The Show's Global Success And Impact
It is the unnerving television phenomenon that has taken the world by storm - and now, the hit Netflix limited series Adolescence is seeing if their massive success will ultimately translate into Emmy nominations.
Revolving around a community in Northern England, whose lives are turned upside down when their 13-year-old son is accused of murdering a classmate. What follows is a master class in episodic storytelling, acting performances, sound design and innovative camera techniques by filming scenes in one continuous take.
Owen Cooper behind-the-scenes on the set of "Adolescence"
Starring Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters, Erin Doherty and introducing impressive newcomer Owen Cooper, Adolescence has become far more than just a dramatic tale for entertainment value, becoming the third most-watched Netflix series of all time for the streaming giant with more than 140 million views globally - it has encouraged a rather important conversations between parents and kids within this social media day and age.
This past Tuesday night, a handful of the Adolescence cast and crew came together at the Television Academy building in North Hollywood, California for Netflix's FYSEE screening and a Q&A discussion. Before the festivities began, I spoke with these various creatives about their dedicated work on the series and why they believe that their team's outstanding achievements, both in front of the camera and behind, have impacted audiences in such a unique way this year.

Graham, who plays 'Eddie Miller' on Adolescence and is also the co-creator, writer and executive producer, said, 'One of the key elements was it was made with truth, with honesty, with integrity and with a lot of love. It's a heavy piece, but we had a lot of fun making it. We never expected this kind of tsunami of success. It was just a little colloquial piece of drama that was made at home and we loved making it. So then, you throw it up into the ether and see what happens."

Jack Thorne, who is also a co-creator, writer and executive producer on the project, said, 'Well, I think I'm the luckiest writer alive. The way this show worked was that everyone involved took authorship of it - took responsibility for telling the story and that meant that everyone brought their A-game in all those different functions. It was just a dream. It was a summer of dreaming with brilliant people.'

Cooper, who plays 'Jamie Miller' on Adolescence in his first-ever acting job, said, 'I think a lot of families can relate to it. It can hit a lot of homes and it's a relatable piece. It's hard to explain - because it's a Northern show, it helped me act, because it's not where I'm from, but it's true to life.'
Even the music composers of the four-episode series had some thoughts on why they believe Netflix viewers are resonating with this limited series. David Ridley said, 'I think we feel that it opens a wide variety of conversations, with a script that's really elegantly put together and quite simple, and just paints around for people then to sort of jump in and talk about how much kids are on their phone these days - the manosphere, sort of relationship dynamics, what's going on at schools, maybe around the world, but certainly in the UK. There are so many conversations that it has opened and I feel like particularly parents have resonated with this and with the issues around parenting today and how difficult that is.'

Fellow Adolescence composer Aaron May added: 'I guess that if we've sort of covered the thematic elements, the part of the reason why those thematic elements have been able to resonate so strongly is because the way it's told with the one-shot format, and the performances make it feel so real. So, I think that the format just really helps to portray those themes and it gives a real-life context to those themes.'
Ashley Walters attends Netflix's FYSEE "Adolescence" event at Saban Theatre on May 27, 2025 in North ... More Hollywood, California.
Walters, who plays 'Detective Inspector Luke Bascombe,' said, 'There's a lot of parents around the world. You can't watch our show as a parent and it not move you, and it not make you think about what are you doing as a parent to ensure your child's safety online. We're all going through it. I've had so many conversations with other parents around the world. I've got an eight-year-old that is obsessed with his iPad. I'm always having conversations with my wife about should we get him on it less, or should we take it away from him. We've always been scared to approach those conversations because it's like a limb to those kids, to that generation. I think Adolescence just blew that all out of the water. It made that conversation okay to have, and I think that's why it resonated so much. It gave permission.'
Erin Doherty attends Netflix's FYSEE "Adolescence" event at Saban Theatre on May 27, 2025 in North ... More Hollywood, California.
Doherty, who plays 'Briony Ariston' on Adolescence, said of the show's popularity, 'It's like catching lightning in a bottle - and sometimes, for whatever reason, it all comes together. I think everyone just wanted to be there and to put their all into this story, and they knew the importance of what it meant to tell it correctly. I think that's what kind of fueled and charged the whole project for everyone. They were just so proud to be a part of it and we all just wanted to do it to the best of our ability.'
For those that have already watched all four episodes of this Netflix limited series, I wondered what this Adolescence team hopes the audiences has or will take away from seeing this on-screen narrative play out, from start to finish.
Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper in "Adolescence"
Graham said, 'Just that communication with each other, do you know what I mean? Fathers talking to sons, mothers talking to daughters, mothers talking to sons, fathers talking to daughters. Just having that kind of awareness as a family of what's happening in your own home, and create and continue that line of communication.'
Thorne said, 'Talk to your children, and I mean that to teachers, to parents. It's hard - I'm a parent. I find it impossible to talk to my kid, at times, but we need to open up these conversations because they're having conversations with people that we don't know about and we need to be able to make sure that the lines of communication are clear, so that they're able to be honest and be open. If you do all those things, then you might save them - not from being like Jamie - Jamie is one-in-a-million, but from their own unhappiness, their own isolation, their own hurt.'
Mark Stanley, Owen Cooper and Stephen Graham in "Adolescence"
Cooper said, 'Especially in Adolescence, there's a massive lack of communication due to work and business, but that's what every father has to go through. They have to do the work to pay the bills and stuff, but that should never come before your family. Your family comes first, so it's always communication with your sons and your daughters. It's very important in a family - and what Adolescence does, it shows the lack of communication can cause a child to - not all the time, but it can cause them to be lonely and stuff like that.'
Ashley Walters in "Adolescence"
Walters said, 'It's important to talk. I feel connection maybe has been lost slightly over the years, when it comes to the Internet, devices - we talk less. So, the days of like sitting around the table on a Sunday, having a Sunday lunch with your kids and your parents or whatever - those are the times where you would find out what's going on in your child's life. How was school? Are you being bullied? Are you not? We're not doing those things as regular anymore. So, I feel like hopefully people will take that away. Hopefully, people will take away that there are beautiful pros that come with how technology has grown so rapidly, but there are also cons. Maybe we should go back to some of the basics - just some. I'm not saying take away computers for life. I'm just saying like one day out of the week is good to talk, right?'
Erin Doherty and Owen Cooper in "Adolescence"
Doherty said, 'I hope that it ignites a conversation about how we support our younger generation. I'm not a parent, so I don't know the intensity of what it means to watch the show from that lens, but I know they're chatting about it, obviously. From people of my generation, I know that what it has done is open up that avenue to preempt how we can navigate that world. So hopefully, it does that, which is all you can really hope for with any piece of art, is that it starts a conversation.'
Concluding my FYSEE Netflix conversations with this cast, I wondered what they would say to each of their Adolescence characters, if only they could, after embodying them on-screen and seeing how their actions & experiences ultimately played out. What do they need to hear?
Owen Cooper in "Adolescence"
Cooper said with 'Jamie' in mind, 'I've never had that question before. Well, you know, Jamie's where he is now and he can speak to his family once a week, so just keep his head down - don't get into trouble in the place where he is. If he keeps his head down, he'll be fine and be sweet, and then he'll get out and be with his family again.'
Amari Jayden Bacchus and Ashely Walters in "Adolescence"
Walters said with 'Bascombe' in mind, 'Quality time with your son is important. It's a lesson I had to learn, as well. As an actor, I'm always traveling. I'm always working, and sometimes, you don't realize you're neglecting some of your loved ones. So yeah, that's what I would say.'
Erin Doherty in "Adolescence"
Doherty said with 'Briony' in mind, 'Oh, she needs a hug. Oh my gosh, that's my one thing - I've walked away and I kind of always had this little pipe dream of like - maybe one day, I'll be a therapist. Honestly, I just don't. It's gone. It's disappeared. I just don't think I could do it. It's so intense. I don't think she needs to hear any words. She just needs a hug.'
Owen Cooper and Stephen Graham in "Adolescence"
Graham concluded with 'Eddie' in mind, 'It's a great question. I'd tell Eddie, if we could have the conversation before the incident happened, I'd tell Eddie to show his lad a lot more love, do you know what I mean? Put his arms around the boy, tell him he loves him. That'd be my thing I'd say to Eddie.'

Rachel Recchia Calls Louis Russell 'Selfish' for Spoiling ‘Perfect Match'
It looks like Love Island USA's Huda Mustafa found romance beyond the villa with Too Hot to Handle alum Louis Russell after they hard-launched their relationship on the red carpet. We love to see wait a minute. Hasn't Louis been exploring another connection with Love Is Blind's Sandy Gallagher on the current season of Perfect Match, which released its first six episodes this summer? Yes, yes he has. Allow us to elaborate. The Netflix reality series reportedly started filming over a year ago after it was renewed for its third season in June 2024, so his real-life relationship with Huda is, unfortunately, a major spoiler. Because of it, we know Louis and Sandy's flirtation will fizzle out at some point—and fellow Perfect Match cast member Rachel Recchia is fully calling him out for it, too. During an interview on Nick Viall's The Viall Files podcast, Rachel shared that she was 'disappointed' when she saw Louis and Huda walk the red carpet of the Weapons movie premiere on July 31. 'It's literally airing—we have what, maybe two weeks? It feels, like, a little selfish,' Rachel said, referring to the remaining episodes' release schedule. 'It affects the whole cast.' She clarified that while it's frustrating, there's no bad blood between her and Louis, adding, 'I love him as a person. I think he's amazing. I get along with him so well. He's such great TV.' She continued, 'I mean, Sandy and him have such a good connection on the show. Now people are kinda seeing things like, 'Oh, what's going on now?'' The Bachelor Nation alum also said that 'everything that's happening now is crazy' in the aftermath of Louis going public with Huda and his alleged falling out with Love Island: Beyond the Villa star, Miguel Harichi. ICYMI, Miguel's girlfriend, Leah Kateb, and her PPG besties Serena Page and JaNa Craig, all unfollowed Louis on social media after he stepped out on the red carpet with Huda. Love Island USA devotees thought this was Huda shade, but Leah later clarified that it had nothing to do with the season 7 fan favorite and more to do with Louis. Then, Miguel cleared the air with a series of Instagram Stories, in which he wrote, 'Leah and the girls didn't unfollow Louis because he was dating Huda, they did it because as women the reasoning behind why he was dating her didn't sit right with them.' He added, 'Whether or not they are truly falling for each other at this point I couldn't care less. I wish them nothing but peace, but my road is my own and I would prefer if my name and my girl's name no longer crossed into their world.' Oh, and if you're wondering how Rachel is feeling about her ill-fated reunion with Clayton Echard on Perfect Match? As she told Nick: 'I think he came on the show because he did want that redemption and I'm the easiest path to it... He said we're both better versions of ourselves. I definitely am.'

'I'm Not Afraid Any More.' Joy Sunday On Wednesday & Growth Between Seasons
Joy Sunday glides into the lobby of The Whitby Hotel in New York City's midtown donning a caramel corset and flouncy Emilio Pucci mini skirt. Sunday's presence and her features are strikingly captivating, but she doesn't need the striped blazer or greenish-blue contacts she wears to suit up for her role as Bianca Barclay on Netflix's Wednesday to turn heads in real life. It's clear that Sunday's confidence gives life to Bianca, the siren with the power to mesmerize and persuade even the most strong-willed. Bianca is Sunday's first role as a main character in a TV series. And with the show being Netflix's most watched English language original series ever, she hit the ground running. Now going into a new season — the first four episodes premiere today, Wednesday, August 6 — Sunday assures you, me, and everyone else watching that she isn't stopping. At all. 'I'm being very strategic about how I'm moving forward, because I'm not losing this platform,' the 28-year-old New York native said matter of factly. 'I'm taking it to the end, and I want to take others with me. It's not a threat, but it's a promise.' ' I'm taking it to the end, and I want to take others with me. It's not a threat, but it's a promise. joy sunday on acting beyond 'wednesday' ' In Season 1, we're introduced to Bianca as a popular student at Nevermore Academy who has control over her powers, despite the mistrust she faces from others, including her ex. When Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) shows up, they share a brief rivalry before Bianca joins her investigation into the mayor's death. Season 2 goes deeper into Bianca's vulnerability, Sunday explained. Bianca's past comes back to haunt her and she begins reckoning with her relationship with her mother, a siren who uses her powers to scam and wants her daughter to follow suit. 'In Season 2, she's trying to hide herself and conceal what's going on in the background, and so she's really having to come to terms with what she really didn't want to do in Season 1,' Sunday said. 'Now she's being forced to [be a] more compassionate individual. Because that's something that she judged her mom, Gabrielle (Gracy Goldman), for so heavily in Season 1, and that now she finds herself in the same position.' Addressing motherhood wounds plays a huge part in Season 2 overall. Viewers will see most of the main characters' relationships with their moms, for better or worse. As Bianca navigates her own challenges at school, she's now faced with the task of protecting Gabrielle, a theme the teen experienced in their relationship growing up. Sunday said she appreciates the duo's redemptive arc and the opportunity to find healing for them. ' Young Black women are forced to mature faster than anyone else is to understand their relationship to the world... I think that's why it's so special to get to see Bianca need help and to eventually learn to ask for it. joy sunday ' Despite this being a fantastical world, Sunday believes that forgiveness is important to see. Especially for Black girls who often have to mature faster than others. 'Young Black women are forced to mature faster than anyone else is to understand their relationship to the world and to the family, how the world sees them and how they see themselves,' Sunday passionately stated. 'I think that's why it's so special to get to see Bianca need help and to eventually learn to ask for it. And it's also nice to see people come to her aid without her asking for it, and to see people advocate for her as well.' Though Bianca's confidence may have wavered a bit since the first season, Sunday's has only grown. Three years ago when Wednesday first premiered, Sunday was still new to doing press runs and red carpets. 'I almost felt like I needed to play a role or to fit in terms of how I was presenting myself,' she admitted. That feeling has faded as she's gotten her reps in for projects like Rise (2023) and Under The Influencer (2024). But with the writers and actors strike in 2023 and a shaky Hollywood economy, Sunday admits that work hasn't been as steady. Thankfully, becoming a global ambassador for Lancome has helped sustain her and her family. 'It's been a journey of working my way back to this feeling of confidence and this feeling of, I've got some shit to do,' she explained. 'I've been through trials and tribulations, but I think it's really an important part of the actor's journey to share that it's not always going to be the 'hurry up.' Sometimes it's going to be the 'wait.'' This isn't looking like a 'wait' season for Sunday, however. In February, Deadline announced that the actor would be joining the HBO limited series DTF St. Louis. And ahead of its Season 2 premiere, Netflix renewed Wednesday for a third season. Going forward, Sunday is prepared to show the industry more of what she's made of. She's eyeing more fantasy and supernatural roles and some action. (She's specifically manifesting Interview With the Vampire and Ghost Dog 2.) In this era, Sunday knows she's more than good. 'I feel empowered to say I am that much more extensive of an artist, and I'm not afraid to show that,' she said. 'In Season 1, I was kind of afraid of having to fit in the boxes. I wanted to make sure that everything would go well, but I'm not afraid any more. I'm excited.'

Brittany Snow's Rumored Boyfriend, Hunter Moreno, Shows Her Support After 'The Hunting Wives' Release
Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. THE RUNDOWN In October 2024, The Hunting Wives actress Brittany Snow was seen with a mystery man in New York City in photos shared by the Daily Mail. He was identified as cinematographer Hunter Moreno, and the pair looked very cozy, sharing a kiss while walking Snow's dog. The actress was wearing a Yankees cap, long black coat, and wide-legged pants for the outing with a pair of sunglasses. Moreno was in a baseball cap, jeans, and a big white hoodie. A year earlier, Snow divorced ex-husband Tyler Stanaland, known for his role on Selling The OC, a spin-off of the popular Netflix reality show, Selling Sunset. The former couple announced their split in September 2022 in a joint statement on Instagram that is now deleted, saying, 'This decision was made with love and mutual respect for one another. We have realized we need to take some time and make sure we are each living our most fulfilling and authentic lives. We started this journey as best friends and our relationship will continue to be a priority not only for us but for our dog Charlie.' Fans were intrigued by her new flame and wanted to know more about Moreno after they were spotted together. Here's what there is to know about Moreno and his relationship with Snow so far. Moreno is a creative director, cinematographer, and photographer who has worked with celebrities like Selena Gomez, Cara Delevingne, Reneé Rapp, Machine Gun Kelly, Miley Cyrus, and brands like Vogue, Inkd Magazine, and Madewell. He started his career in Los Angeles, filming YouTube videos for growing influencers. He seems to have been working on directing more music videos in 2024, and was just nominated for a directing award at the People's Choice Country Awards. He also briefly dated Tana Mongeau in 2017, and they remain good friends, according to Perez Hilton. Moreno is the co-founder and creative director of Make Sure Your Friends Are OK, or MSYFAO. The organization sells merchandise and then donates a portion of the profits to mental health charities. In an episode of Recovering From Reality with Alexis Haines, he says he was inspired by his own struggles with mental health issues. Mental health is an important issue to Snow as well, who co-wrote a book titled September Letters about issues around mental well-being, partnering with the Mental Health Coalition. In January, Snow tagged Moreno in a series of photos taken of her for a Netflix press event, crediting him for photographing her. She wrote, 'I was asked to hang out a little bit with my friends at @nightagentnetflix. I got to be an agent and run around the streets of Bangkok. Weirdly, I did not wear this dress. 🤍* press for season 2 *' As of July 2025, the two still follow each other on Instagram, and Moreno has liked almost all her recent Instagrams. She also regularly likes his posts. No, as of August 2025, neither Moreno nor Snow has addressed speculation about their relationship.
