London, Aug 19 (PTI) Helen Mirren says a female James Bond 'just doesn't work".
While promoting her upcoming film 'The Thursday Murder Club" alongside former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan, the acclaimed actor weighed in on discussions about the new Bond casting.
'I'm such a feminist, but James Bond has to be a guy, you can't have a woman. It just doesn't work. James Bond has to be James Bond, otherwise it becomes something else," she told Saga magazine.
Brosnan, who played the globe-trotting fiction spy inspired by Ian Fleming's books in four films — 'GoldenEye" (1995), 'Tomorrow Never Dies" (1997), 'The World Is Not Enough" (1999) and 'Die Another Day" (2002) — said he wishes the team well.
'I'm so excited to see the next man come on the stage and to see a whole new exuberance and life for this character," he added..
In a previous interview with The London Standard, Mirren argued that women-centric Secret Service stories should be based on real life events and people.
'Women have always been a major and incredibly important part of the Secret Service, they always have been," she said.
'So I would tell real stories about extraordinary women who've worked in that world," she said while criticising James Bond for being 'drenched and born out of profound sexism".
Mirren is known for her roles in films such as 'The Queen", 'Gosford Park" and 'The Last Station". Most recently, she was seen in the British crime drama 'MobLand".
A versatile and senior actor, the 80-year old has received several accolades, including an Oscar for Best Actress for portraying Queen Elizabeth II in the film 'The Queen" in 2006. PTI COR BK BK

Dragon: Jr NTR's House Set Built For Whopping Rs 15 Crore? Here's What We Know

Last Updated: Jr NTR's Dragon is set to feature a lavish Rs 15 crore house set at Ramoji Film City. Directed by Prashanth Neel, the film begins its next action-packed schedule in September. Jr NTR briefly shot for Dragon last month before stepping away to promote War 2, where he shared screen space with Hrithik Roshan. With promotions now complete, the actor is set to dedicate his full attention to the Prashanth Neel directorial. The film's first schedule was shot in the coastal town of Kumta, Uttara Kannada, offering a scenic backdrop along the Konkan coast. Expansive factory sets were created for the ten-day schedule. However, unpredictable weather forced the production to move away from outdoor shoots in the region. Rs 15 Crore Spent On Jr NTR's House Set To ensure seamless progress, the team shifted to Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad, where multiple elaborate sets are being built. Among them, the most striking is Jr NTR's on-screen residence. According to a report in Filmfare, the house set alone is valued at a staggering Rs 15 crore. Designed with precision, it will feature curated artefacts, custom wall hangings, and detailed colour schemes, making it a key visual element of the narrative. This extravagant investment reflects the film's larger-than-life approach and Neel's commitment to world-building. Next Major Schedule Begins September Currently on a short festive break, Jr NTR will rejoin the sets after Vinayaka Chaturthi. The next schedule, starting in early September, will run for a month in Hyderabad and will largely revolve around high-octane action sequences. With Prashanth Neel at the helm and Jr NTR's star power, Dragon is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious films in recent times. Justin Baldoni Reacts To 'It Ends With Us' Actor Isabela's Harassment Claims: 'Inappropriate Attack'

Last Updated: Justin Baldoni rejects Isabela Ferrer's bullying and harassment allegations, calling her claims 'without merit' in ongoing legal dispute over It Ends With Us. Justin Baldoni has officially addressed accusations made by Isabela Ferrer, who claimed she faced bullying and harassment from the It Ends With Us director. The allegations emerged amid a legal battle involving Blake Lively, according to People. Isabela Ferrer's Allegations Against Justin Baldoni Isabela Ferrer, who portrayed the younger version of Blake Lively's character Lily, alleged that Baldoni and his production company Wayfarer Studios treated her unfairly during legal proceedings. Her legal team said that after being subpoenaed by Blake Lively's side earlier this year, Ferrer requested reimbursement for her legal costs as per her contract. According to her attorneys, Wayfarer Studios refused payment unless Ferrer allowed them to control her response to Lively's subpoena. Her lawyers further claimed that Baldoni attempted to manipulate and intimidate her through 'inappropriate conduct" during the process. Justin Baldoni's Response In court documents filed on Monday, August 18, Baldoni's legal team strongly denied these claims. People obtained filings in which his lawyers described Ferrer's allegations as 'primarily an inappropriate attack upon Mr. Baldoni and his counsel relating to matters not before the Court and irrelevant." Baldoni's attorneys argued that the subpoena from his side was valid, aiming to collect documents either not previously provided or outside the scope of her original subpoena from Lively's team in February. They added that issuing the subpoena does not constitute harassment, calling her claims 'without merit." The Bigger Picture This dispute has heightened tension in the ongoing high-profile legal situation surrounding It Ends With Us. In January, Baldoni publicly shared a text exchange with Ferrer, indicating that the conflict had been simmering for months. The trial is officially scheduled for March 2026.
