Toyota Fortuner, Legender Get 48V Mild-Hybrid System: Price, Specs, Features
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today announced the introduction of the Fortuner and Legender in a new Neo Drive avatar. Equipped with an advanced 48-Volt system, the new Neo Drive Variants claim to offer improved fuel efficiency, enhanced driving performance, and a refined experience.
The Toyota Fortuner and Legender Neo Drive get a 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine now paired with a 48-Volt system, featuring a belt-integrated starter generator and lithium-ion battery. The brand claims that this hybrid assist delivers smoother low-end acceleration, quieter operation, and improved efficiency.

Speaking on the introduction of the Fortuner & Legender Neo Drive 48V variants, Mr. Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, said, "As the SUV market in India grows steadily, customers are seeking advanced features and differentiated styling, both the Fortuner and Legender rise to meet these expectations with their bold design, powerful performance and comprehensive features, catering seamlessly to the needs of diverse users."
Adding further, he also said- "Now, the introduction of the new Neo Drive 48V grade in both models marks yet another milestone in our journey. As a segment first, it underscores our commitment to delivering ever-better cars that align with evolving customer lifestyles, while also reinforcing Toyota's multi-pathway approach toward carbon neutrality. The Fortuner and the Legender Neo Drive retain most of the exterior elements from the one on sale. The Toyota Legender gets striking dual-tone body colours, split LED headlamps, and a sleeker fascia. Both models feature dual-tone leather upholstery, soft-touch materials, and ergonomic seating for enhanced long-distance comfort.
The Toyota Fortuner and Legender offer a host of safety features that include: seven airbags, ABS, Vehicle Stability Control with Brake Assist, WIL Concept Seats, Hill Assist Control, TRC (Traction Control System), Child Restraint System, Front Row Seatbelts with Pre-Tensioner + Force Limiter, Speed Auto Lock with Emergency Unlock amongst host of other essentials.
The Toyota Fortuner Neo Drive 48V is available at Rs 44.72 lakh (ex-showroom), whereas the Legender Neo Drive 48V is priced at Rs 50.09 lakh (ex-showroom).

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has officially launched a new mild-hybrid version of its popular SUV, the Fortuner, with the introduction of the Fortuner Neo Drive 48V. The new variant brings electrification to the Fortuner lineup for the first time, offering enhanced fuel efficiency and smoother performance, while retaining the rugged appeal the SUV is known for. The new system is available in two trims – the Fortuner Neo Drive 48V and the Legender Neo Drive 48V. While the new Fortuner Neo Drive 48V brings mechanical enhancements under the bonnet, its exterior design remains largely unchanged. It continues with the same bold styling cues including a dual-tone black and white colour scheme, sharp LED daytime running lights, revised bumpers, and distinctive 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. These elements ensure the SUV maintains its road presence while subtly differentiating itself from the standard diesel models. In terms of features, Toyota has retained the same premium equipment list seen in existing Fortuner variants. Key highlights include dual-tone leather interiors, ambient lighting, a wireless charging pad, and a touchscreen infotainment system. The SUV also continues to offer creature comforts such as ventilated front seats and a premium 11-speaker JBL audio system complete with a subwoofer and amplifier. The heart of the update lies in the powertrain. The Fortuner Neo Drive 48V is powered by the familiar 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine but now comes paired with a 48V mild-hybrid setup. This system integrates a belt-driven starter generator and a lithium-ion battery to assist with smoother low-end torque delivery, quieter operation, and overall efficiency. Toyota claims that the mild-hybrid system enables the SUV to deliver improved acceleration at lower speeds, while also contributing to reduced fuel consumption and emissions. Energy regeneration during deceleration allows the battery to recharge effectively, enhancing braking performance as well. Adding to its list of smart features is the new Smart Idle Start-Stop system, which turns off the engine when the vehicle is stationary to save fuel and reduce emissions. Meerut man arrested for operating multi-crore car loan fraud
Meerut: The special task force in Meerut arrested a 35-year-old man on Wednesday for allegedly operating a car loan fraud gang, causing losses worth crores to several banks. Additional SP STF Brijesh Kumar Singh said, "Anangpal Nagar, a resident of Kithore in Meerut, was the mastermind behind the crime and had been involved in this scam for the past 10 years. So far, six cars have been identified and a loss of over Rs 2.5 crores have been accounted for." Singh added, "Nagar used forged addresses in car loan documents along with fake Aadhaar cards at banks to secure loans and later sold the cars — mostly luxury — after defaulting on EMIs. The addresses on the documents were often linked to rented houses. Once a vehicle was financed, the accused vacated the listed address, stopped paying the EMI, and sold the vehicle at a reduced price to unsuspecting buyers." During interrogation, Nagar revealed that he registered a fake enterprise named Preeti Dairy, in the name of his female friend, showing its location in the Modipuram region of Meerut. Police said he used this fake business to create financial credibility by opening multiple bank accounts and transferring money between them to manipulate the cibil score in ITR filings. "In March, Anangpal financed a Fortuner from an SBI branch using a friend's name. Last year, he financed a Scorpio for Rs 18.5 lakh from the Indian Bank in the name of another female friend and later sold it to one Mohit Siwach for Rs 11 lakh. Two Toyota HyRyder vehicles were also financed — one from Toyota Finance and the other from ICICI Bank in Gurgaon — using fake address proofs. One of these was later sold to a buyer in Rajnagar Extension of Ghaziabad for Rs 16 lakh," Singh said, adding that investigation is ongoing to identify other members of the gang and trace more vehicles obtained through this racket.
