Russia's feared killer spy unit GRU building ‘hit list' of Western enemies from MPs to journalists, warns Putin critic

The Sun30-04-2025

RUSSIA is compiling a "hit list" of western MPs and journalists, an exiled Russian oligarch has claimed.
Mikhail Khodorkovsky said GRU spies had orders to track down Kremlin critics for 'imminent' attacks.

The former Yukos oil baron who spent 10 years in Russian prisons said: 'Putin's spies are building a hit list of journalists, politicians, and public figures across Europe.'
He claimed GRU military intelligence officers tasked agents across Europe to find targets' home and and work addresses.
He said they were compiliing a 'hit list for future operations'.
He added: 'The threat is real and immediate. Those who understand the regime know these intelligence-gathering operations precede direct action.'
The Sun understands least two European journalists on a Russian wanted list have been targeted by Russian spies seeking personal information.
It comes after MI6 warned Russian spies had gone 'feral' across Europe.
Spy chief Sir Richard Moore – who is known as C at the Secret Intelligence Service – said Moscow had unleashed a 'staggeringly reckless campaign' of attacks including putting firebombs on DHL cargo planes.
MI5 spy chief Ken McCallum has also warned Russia was hiring thugs to carry out attacks.
He accused Moscow of plotting "arson, sabotage and more – dangerous actions conducted with increasing recklessness'.
US and German intelligence said Moscow had planned to kill the chief executive of Rheinmetall, the German armaments giant that supplies Ukraine.

Khordokovsky, who now lives in London, said attacks on Kremlin critics would be carried out by rent-a-thugs hired on 'anonymous online channels'.
He also suggested Russia might use 'far-right groups or outright criminal elements'.
A GRU team conducted the deadly Novichok nerve agent attack in Salisbury in 2018 that killed innocent mum-of-three Dawn Sturgess.
Khordokovsky's warning comes after six Bulgarians based in Britain were convicted of spying for Russia, including by conducting surveillance and honey trap missions on investigative journalists.

The spy ring targeted British based journalist Christo Grozev, from the Bellingcat website, and exiled Russian journalist Roman Dobrokhotov, from the investigative website the Insider.
Vanya Gaberova, 30, who ran a beauty salon in west London, was ordered to seduce Grozev.
She claimed he was"hooked and in love" in WhatsApp messages shared at the Old Bailey.
They are due to be sentenced next month.

Moment Tommy Robinson is ‘kicked out of restaurant' because staff ‘don't feel comfortable serving him'

THIS is the moment Tommy Robinson appears to be kicked out of a steak restaurant because staff "felt uncomfortable serving him". Footage shows the far-Right activist - real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon - having lunch with a group at the Hawksmoor Air Street restaurant in London. 5 5 But he, and his party, were allegedly kicked out of the Art Deco eatery half way through their meal. Once-prominent member of the EDL Guramit Singh Kalirai was also present and claimed they got the boot for "no reason". He tweeted: "Just been kicked out of Hawksmoor steak house for no reason. Literally juts had our starters." A video alongside the post showed Robinson's posse interacting with what appeared to be the manager of the establishment. He can be heard saying "members of staff feel uncomfortable serving you". Mr Kalirai replies "is it because of the colour of my skin?". The supervisor explains "No, no, no. We have a duty of care to our members of staff. "We like to look after our people as I'm sure you can understand." He presents a business card for the CEO of Hawksmoor and advises Robinson to contact the email address "if he has any questions". The manager adds "don't worry about the drinks" saying the steak house, which overlooks Regent Street, will cover them. Tommy Robinson pleads NOT guilty to harassing two journalists after 'sharing multiple posts' He concludes "I'm very sorry. I hope it hasn't inconvenienced you." The 47-second clip then cuts to Mr Kalirai who rants "have you seen that? We've just been kicked out of the steak house. "Been sat here for a f***ing hour. We are sat here with the celebrities." The footage ends with Robinson looking at the card and typing on his mobile phone. The Sun has approached Hawksmoor for comment. It comes hours after Robinson pleaded not guilty to harassing two journalists. Robinson arrived at Westminster Magistrates' Court today surrounded by supporters. The 42-year-old denied two counts of harassment causing fear of violence between August 5 and 7, 2024. He allegedly harassed the two reporters causing them to "fear violence would be used against them". The court heard he shared multiple posts about the men on X, formerly Twitter, and in calls. Robinson elected to have his trial at Southwark Crown Court and will appear for a hearing on July 3. He was bailed on the condition he does not contact any prosecution witness directly or indirectly and must not post anything online which would identify them. The third condition stated he is "not to publish any comment relating to current proceedings that may prejudice either parties to proceedings or proceedings themselves other than those permitted by the Crime and Disorder Act." A Crown Prosecution Service spokesperson earlier said: "We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, 42, with harassment causing fear of violence against two men. "The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial." 5 5

Russia blames UK for Ukraine drone attack that 'risks escalation to World War 3'

Ukraine's drone attacks on airbases for nuclear bombers risk escalating the conflict to "World War III" claims Russia's ambassador to the UK, who suggested that the UK was involved in the mission. Andrei Kelin warned that Ukraine's actions "are bringing the conflict to a different level of escalation", and said Kyiv should "not try to engulf World War III". A surprise Ukrainian drone attack that targeted several Russian air bases hosting nuclear-capable strategic bombers was unprecedented in its scope and sophistication and for the first time reached as far as Siberia in a heavy blow to the Russian military. Mr Kelin pointed the finger at the UK when he said Ukraine must have had assistance in the attacks. "[This] kind of attack involves, of course, provision of very high technology, so-called geospaced data, which only can be done by those who have it in possession. And this is London and Washington," he told Sky News. "I don't believe that America [is involved], that has been denied by President Trump, definitely, but it has not been denied by London. We perfectly know how much London is involved, how deeply British forces are involved in working together with Ukraine." Satellite photos show seven destroyed bombers on the tarmac at an air base in eastern Siberia, one of the targets Ukraine said it struck with drones in one of the most daring covert operations of the war. Ukraine said over 40 bombers, or about a third of Russia's strategic bomber fleet, were damaged or destroyed Sunday, although Moscow said only several planes were struck. The conflicting claims couldn't be independently verified and video of the assault posted on social media showed only a couple of bombers hit. The operation was claimed to have been planned over 18 months and it is a heavy blow to Russia's air force and its military prestige. The bold attack demonstrated Ukraine's capability to hit high-value targets anywhere in Russia, dealing a humiliating blow to the Kremlin and inflicting significant losses to Moscow's war machine. While some Russian military bloggers compared it to another infamous Sunday surprise attack — that of Japan's strike on the U.S. base at Pearl Harbour in 1941 — others rejected the analogy, arguing the actual damage was far less significant than Ukraine claimed.
