Extension of Jordan-Iraq Electricity Supply Agreement The Director General of the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), Dr. Sofian Al-Batainah, announced on Sunday that Jordan and Iraq have agreed to extend the electricity supply agreement from the Jordanian grid to Iraq for one more year. اضافة اعلان In a press statement following his meeting in Amman with the Director General of the General Company for Electricity Transmission / Central Region in Iraq, Eng. Riyadh Areibi, and the accompanying delegation, Al-Batainah explained that the extension was made at the request of the Iraqi side. The new agreement extends the contract for supplying electricity from NEPCO to the General Company for Electricity Transmission in Iraq to feed the Rutba area, for an additional year or until the 400 kV Jordan-Iraq interconnection line is electrified. The current supply contract will now remain valid until September 27, 2025. During the meeting, which was held at NEPCO headquarters, the Jordanian side confirmed its full readiness to electrify the 400 kV interconnection line from the Risha Substation. On their part, the Iraqi delegation expressed expectations that all project-related work on the 400 kV infrastructure on the Iraqi side will be completed within six months from the date of the meeting. Dr. Al-Batainah emphasized that both countries are working towards energizing the Jordan-Iraq power interconnection and commencing supply at 400 kV. This step is considered a precursor to activating synchronous interconnection between the two countries. Chlorine gas leak in Iraq causes 621 suffocation cases
More than 600 pilgrims were briefly hospitalized with respiratory issues following a chlorine gas leak at a water treatment facility between the Shiite holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, authorities confirmed Sunday. The incident occurred overnight along the road connecting these two central and southern Iraqi cities, a key route for millions of Shiite Muslims expected to gather in Karbala this year for the Arbaeen pilgrimage. Iraq's Health Ministry issued a statement reporting '621 cases of asphyxia have been recorded following a chlorine gas leak in Karbala,' adding that 'all have received the necessary care and left hospital in good health.' Security forces responsible for pilgrim safety identified the source of the leak as 'a chlorine leak from a water station on the Karbala-Najaf road.'

13 Investors Granted Jordanian Citizenship in Q2 2025 - Jordan News
Minister of Government Communications and official spokesperson for the government, Mohammad Al-Momani, announced that 13 investors were granted Jordanian citizenship during the second quarter of 2025. اضافة اعلان In comparison, 17 investors had obtained citizenship in the first quarter, with a total investment value of around 32 million dinars, generating approximately 600 job opportunities for Jordanians. Minister of Investment, Muthanna Gharaibeh, stated that since 2018, a total of 561 investors have been granted Jordanian citizenship, noting that Syrian and Iraqi investors top the list of recipients. He explained that recent amendments to the regulations governing the granting of citizenship to investors aim to increase job opportunities and enhance the value added to the Jordanian economy. Gharaibeh also noted that the investment encouragement decision will stimulate stock market activity without causing inflation in the Amman Stock Exchange, adding that the move will energize the financial market in Amman. During a session held on Wednesday, chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan, the Cabinet approved new criteria for granting Jordanian citizenship or residency through investment, based on recommendations by the special investors committee. Under the new regulations, investors or non-investors may be granted a five-year residency — or have their existing residency renewed — regardless of their previous duration of stay in the Kingdom, provided they purchase real estate from a licensed developer valued at no less than 200,000 dinars (based on the Department of Land and Survey's appraisal), retain the property for at least five years without selling or mortgaging it, and receive a recommendation from the investors committee at the Ministry of Interior. For residency renewal, the applicant must still own the same property or a new one of equal value. After being reviewed by the technical committee, the application is forwarded directly to the Minister of Interior's delegate at the investment window, without requiring the property to be held in escrow.
