Turkiye grants visas to stranded Iraqis as Basra reopens for flights
Shafaq News/ Turkish authorities are continuing to issue entry visas to stranded Iraqis arriving from third countries and seeking to return home, Iraq's ambassador to Turkiye confirmed on Sunday. In a statement, Ambassador Majid Al-Lajmawi said that the Iraqi Embassy in Ankara is closely coordinating with Turkish authorities to facilitate the issuance of five-day entry visas for stranded Iraqi nationals. 'The measure follows directives from Iraq's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and aims to ensure an orderly and secure return of Iraqis stranded at Turkish airports due to recent regional developments that prompted the airspace shutdown.' He also announced the launch of a new direct flight route between Dubai and Basra, operated by Iraqi Airways with two daily flights. Iraq's Ministry of Transport recently confirmed that air traffic remains suspended across the country's airports—except for Basra International Airport, which reopened for daytime operations starting Sunday. Construction Minister Discusses Strengthening Partnership in Reconstruction and Infrastructure Projects with Turkish Delegation
Baghdad-INA Minister of Construction, Housing, and Public Municipalities Benkin Rikani discussed strengthening partnerships in reconstruction and infrastructure projects with a Turkish delegation on Sunday. The ministry said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): that "Minister of Construction, Housing, and Public Municipalities Benkin Rikani met at the ministry headquarters today with the Mayor of Gaziantep, Fatima Şahin, and the Turkish Ambassador to Baghdad, Anil Bora İnan, and their accompanying delegation, in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Administrative Affairs, Matin Al-Chadarchi." According to the statement, Rikani said, "Turkish companies have contributed to the implementation of many of the ministry's important projects, and we hope to increase the scope of cooperation and partnership between the two friendly countries, especially with the Gaziantep Governorate, which is geographically close to Iraq and has numerous commercial and economic partnerships with it in various fields." The statement added, "The Mayor of Gaziantep expressed her gratitude for the meeting and her happiness with the construction and development movement taking place in Iraq, stressing that the goal of the visit is to strengthen ties and relations between the two countries, especially with the twinning project between the capital, Baghdad, and the province of Gaziantep."

Egypt's Ora Developers breaks ground for Ali-Wardi project in Iraq
Iraq on Tuesday broke ground on a project to build a new city near the capital Baghdad after it was awarded to an Egyptian developer. Al-Wardi city comprises 100,000 houses and will be constructed by Ora Developers, owned by Egyptian tycoon Naguib Sawiris, the official Iraqi news agency reported. Construction and Housing Minister Benkin Rikani laid the foundation stone for the project, which has an area of nearly 60 square kilometres. 'This is one of the largest housing projects in Iraq…it also includes schools, universities, hospitals, shops and recreation facilities,' Rikani said. Iraq has awarded several contracts to foreign firms over the past two years for the construction of new cities within a post-war programme to tackle a housing crisis. Last month, Zawya Projects reported that Egypt-listed TMG in talks with the Iraqi government to build 45,000 houses in the country. (Writing by Nadim Kawach; Editing by Anoop Menon) (
