The objection to the candidature of Bhandari was raised by Narendra Kumar Nirwan, who's running for the post of the vice president, according to the RO.
"He (Nirwan) has objected that Mr. Bhandari has filed three nomination papers while the Model Election Guidelines of the Sports Code clearly stipulates that each candidate shall be entitled to be nominated by not more than 2 (two) nomination papers," the letter, in possession with The New Indian Express.

‘Blatant distortion of history': Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan questions Modi for praising RSS on I-Day
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of distorting history by praising the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, The New Indian Express reported. 'The attempt to portray the RSS, which was banned following Gandhi's assassination and VD Savarkar, who stood trial in the murder conspiracy, as major contributors of Indian independence is a blatant distortion of history,' the Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader said. Choosing Independence Day to glorify those who had served the British amounted to an insult to the freedom struggle, The New Indian Express quoted the Kerala chief minister as saying. Vijayan said that such moves could not whitewash the RSS, which he alleged carries 'a poisonous legacy of divisive politics', ANI reported. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi also criticised Modi for mentioning the Hindutva organisation during his Independence Day address, PTI reported. Owaisi said he believed it was a 'disrespect to the country's freedom struggle', alleging that the RSS did not participate in it and, in fact, helped the British. 'The RSS has always opposed inclusive nationalism, which was the foundation laid by our ancestors,' Owaisi said. 'When PM Modi visited the RSS headquarters, I did not oppose it because he himself is a member of the RSS and will always be. But when he is speaking as the Prime Minister, he should avoid such things'. VIDEO | Reacting to the mention of the RSS in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's I-Day speech, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi says, "Every Prime Minister addresses the people on Independence Day to tell them what the government has done for them. But PM Narendra Modi spoke about the… — Press Trust of India (@PTI_News) August 16, 2025 In his speech on Friday, the prime minister claimed that the RSS was the biggest non-governmental organisation in the world. 'It has a history of 100 years of dedication,' he said. The RSS is the parent organisation of the Bharatiya Janata Party. 'Today, I would like to proudly mention that 100 years ago, an organisation was born – Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh,' he said. '100 years of service to the nation is a proud, golden chapter.' He said that members of the organisation dedicate their lives to the welfare of the country.

Delhi HC stays EFIs proposed Extraordinary General Meeting on Sunday
New Delhi, Aug 16 (PTI) The Delhi High Court has restrained the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI) from holding the proposed Extraordinary General Meeting (EOGM) on Sunday and noted that there are serious disputes about virtually every facet of the functioning of affairs of the sports body. EFI Secretary General Col Jaiveer Singh had on August 2 issued a notice for the EOGM on August 17 but the Rajasthan Equestrian Association (REA) approached the court for a stay. The Court on Friday stayed the EOGM, saying, 'There appeared to be no rationale to further confound the uneasy state of affairs in EFI by convening an EOGM" and set October 13, 2025 as the next date of hearing. The agenda items including nomination of an interim president, finalise the 2025 calendar, approval of selection trials for FEI Asian Championship and set the selection criteria for 2025 Youth Asian Games, 2026 Asian Games, and approval of payments. Among other issues to be discussed were reason behind the creation of a separate e-mail ID for the organisation and acceptance of membership applications. 'We had approached a few days. Col Jaiveer wanted to have a few decisions passed. He wants to run the EFI as a one-man show. There are bogus clubs as members, through which he can get passed any decision," REA President Raghuvendra Singh Dundlod told PTI from London. 'It needs to be seen if the clubs are genuine or not. There are four genuine and major army units — ASC, RVC, 61 Cavalry, and the President's Body Guard. If they come through the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB)they will be welcome as per the NSDC 2011. 'But the bogus clubs need to go before the fresh election. That is the only way forward. The elections have to conducted under the Sports Code," he added. It may be mentioned that the Sports Ministry had in November 2021 exempted EFI from following two key provisions of the Sports Code including having at least two-thirds of the states and union territories as members. 'These exemption have also been challenged in the court," said Dundlod. Col. Jaiveer Singh said they are considering challenging the court decision. 'It's not a correct judgement. It is against the members. There are important decision to take. We have to finalise the calendar and until we do that events can't be held. The athletes will suffer. We are contemplating next course of action," Col. Jaiveer told PTI. The Equestrian Federation of India's Executive Committee (EC) was reinstated by a Delhi High Court order on May 29, 2024, which overturned a previous appointment of an Ad-Hoc Committee. This decision restored the control of the EFI's affairs to the democratically elected 2019 Executive Committee. The Court-appointed observer SY Quraishi recently mentioned in his report to the court that the endless bickering among the executive committee members was eroding the goodwill of the sports body. The Delhi High Court had entrusted former Chief Election Commissioner Quraishi with the task of overseeing the functioning of EFI while responding to a petition from REA in November 2019. J&K cloudburst: Toll in Kishtwar flash flood rises to 60, over 100 injured
The toll from the flash flood triggered by a cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district has reached 60, The New Indian Express reported on Friday. More than 100 persons were injured and several continue to be missing, the newspaper quoted Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as saying. 'We do not have the exact number of the missing people,' Abdullah reportedly said. An unidentified official told The New Indian Express that 69 persons have been reported missing so far by their families. The cloudburst took place on Thursday near Chashoti, which is the last motorable village on the way to the Machail Mata temple, around 12.25 pm. A large number of devotees had gathered in the area for the annual Machail Mata yatra that began on July 25 and was scheduled to end on September 5. Bodies of 30 persons who were killed have been identified so far and handed over to their families, reported PTI. The operation to rescue those stuck under the debris is being carried out by the National Disaster Response Force, the State Disaster Response Force, the police, the Army and volunteers. Speaking at an Independence Day function on Friday, the Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said that in the coming days, 'we will have to figure out' why the disaster had occurred. 'Was there any lapse on the part of the administration, because we already had a weather forecast [about the possibility of heavy rains and flash floods],' Abdullah was quoted as saying by PTI. 'Could we have taken more steps from the government and the administration to save those precious lives? We have to make ourselves accountable.' In a social media post, he said that he had briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the situation in Kishtwar and the steps being taken by the administration. Modi had said on Thursday that every possible assistance would be provided to those affected by the cloudburst and flooding in Kishtwar. 'My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the cloudburst and flooding in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir,' he said on social media. 'The situation is being monitored closely. Rescue and relief operations are underway.'
