John Goodman makes sad admission about Roseanne Barr years after her firing
The 'Righteous Gemstones' star, 73, revealed that he hasn't spoken to Barr, 72, in 'about seven or eight years' during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published Friday, July 11.
'I'd rather doubt if she wants to talk to me,' he added.

Goodman and Barr starred as onscreen spouses on 'Roseanne' for nine seasons from 1988 to 1997.

The ABC sitcom returned for a 10th season in 2018, but the revival was canceled before a planned 11th season because Barr posted several controversial tweets – including one in which she compared former Barack Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett to an ape.
'Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,' President of ABC Entertainment Channing Dungey announced at the time.

Barr later claimed that 'God told me' to send the racist 2018 tweet that ultimately derailed her career.
Still, Goodman looks back at his time with the comedian on the original run of 'Roseanne' fondly.
'We hit it off from jump street,' he recalled. 'She made me laugh, and I made her laugh, and wow, it was so much fun.'

'We'd get so many viewers for the show back then — 20, 30 million people,' Goodman added. 'Things are so different now, but it was a special time.'
After 'Roseanne' was canceled in May 2018, ABC ordered a spinoff series titled 'The Conners.'
The spinoff saw Goodman (Dan Conner), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Sara Gilbert (Darlene) and more reprise their 'Roseanne' characters, and 'The Conners' aired for seven seasons from 2018 to 2025.

Meanwhile, Barr's character was killed off after suffering an opioid overdose. She later claimed that the show's producers asked her to guest star on 'The Conners' as a ghost, but she rejected the offer.
'They called me and asked me if I would like to come back as a guest star,' she alleged in her 'Roseanne Barr Is America' documentary. 'You're coming back as a ghost.'

'You're asking me to come back to the show that you f–ing stole from me and killed my ass, and now you want me to show up because you got s–t f–ing ratings and play a ghost,' Barr added.

The series finale of 'The Connors' aired on April 23, and the last scene saw Goodman's character look right at the camera and say 'good night' directly to the audience while smiling with tears in his eyes.

Executive producer Bruce Rasmussen later told The Post that the tearful 'goodbyes' weren't scripted, and showrunner Bruce Helford added that the touching final scene was Goodman's idea.
'He had pitched that,' Helford said. 'It was his idea.'
Following the series finale of 'The Conners' in April and the end of 'The Righteous Gemstones' in May, Goodman has been working on a new movie, titled 'The Revenant,' with Tom Cruise.

But Goodman was sidelined from the movie for two months back in March after he fractured his hip following a shocking on-set injury.

'It was a real accident,' he explained to THR on Friday. 'I was wearing stocking feet, like I had been for the last week and a half. I was passing Tom, and my legs just went on the floor, and I came up parallel to the ground and landed on my hip.'

'I tried to get back up, and when I couldn't do that, I started fearing the worst,' Goodman added. 'I didn't know I had fractured it until we got X-rays.'
Luckily, the 'Big Lebowski' star has almost completely recovered from the startling on-set accident in London earlier this year.
'So far, so good,' he said. 'Unfortunately, I was down for about a month there where I couldn't do anything, and it was driving me nuts.'

Broadway is in a bizarre uproar over the race of an actor playing a robot
Broadway has enjoyed a quiet, relaxing and peaceful summer. But show people can't have that! They always need, as Betty sang in the recently shuttered 'Boop! The Musical,' something to shout about. And their something has finally arrived in the form of a piping hot controversy at this year's Best Musical Tony Award winner, 'Maybe Happy Ending.' It's a doozy. Some members of the theater industry are hollerin' 'It's a scandal! It's a outrage!' over the race of an actor who's been cast to play — believe it or not — a robot. 'Maybe Happy Ending,' by the writing team of Hue Park and Will Aronson, is a sweet little science-fiction romantic-comedy that's set in Seoul, South Korea, during the year 2060. The main characters are Oliver and Claire, played by Darren Criss, who's half Filipino, and Helen J. Shen, who's Chinese. Oliver and Claire are robots. 5 There's a controversy brewing over at Broadway's 'Maybe Happy Ending.' Getty Images But the nuts-and-bolts duo have become defunct, so they embark on a quirky adventure to find Oliver's old owner. It's perhaps the nicest show to ever come to Broadway. Or it was. Until this latest fracas. The happiness dimmed when the wonderful, Tony-winning Criss's replacement was announced: actor Andrew Barth Feldman, the fantastic 'No Hard Feelings' star who's also Shen's boyfriend. He's white. Uh oh! In private, many on Broadway are largely OK with that. The most common refrain I've heard is: 'Well, they're robots.' Robots don't have a culture. Well, except the Terminator, of course. He loves schnitzel and strudel. 5 'Maybe Happy Ending' won the Tony Award for Best Musical. Christopher Sadowski After the backlash, Aronson and Hue — kind and humble as it gets — explained on Instagram that they set out to create 'a modern 'Fantasticks,' able to be comfortably performed by anyone, anywhere — yet distinctly set in Korea.' Fair enough. Oliver and Claire, they said, are 'products created by a global company' who are 'ethnically undefined.' That makes a lot of sense. Because the characters are robots. The production said in a statement to the Times, 'We are proud to have created a show where every role can authentically be portrayed by an Asian actor, although the roles of the robots were not envisioned to always be cast that way.' 5 Darren Criss won a Tony for his performance. (Although I've seen plenty of shows where it sure seemed like they were). It's an extremely unusual circumstance, and hardly one to draw broad conclusions from. In works about Asian humans, like the Imelda Marcos musical 'Here Lies Love,' something like this would never happen anymore. Feldman, who was nothing short of sublime in last season's 'We Had A World,' starts performing at the Belasco Theatre on Sept. 2. The uproar should die down well before that. And then fall on Broadway can resume being 'Happy.'

Luke Bryan Speaks on Whether He and Carrie Underwood Will Return to ‘American Idol'
American Idol will return for its 24th season in 2026, but Luke Bryan isn't sure if he'll be along for the ride. The country music star recently spoke with Taste of Country Nights, where he opened up about the future of Idol and whether he and his fellow judge Carrie Underwood will be back next season. Underwood joined Bryan and Lionel Richie for Season 23, replacing Katy Perry. '[She] really enjoyed it,' Bryan said of Underwood's first season as a judge. 'I know she had a great time in the role.' As for whether that means she will be back for another go-around next year, Bryan shared, 'My prediction would be highly favorable.' However, when it comes to his own future with the show, the 'Buy Dirt' singer was more apprehensive. 'Idol is kind of a year-by-year, 'Do we do it or not?'' he stated. Bryan and Richie joined the ABC singing competition series in 2018 and have completed eight seasons behind the table. They served alongside Perry for Seasons 16 to 22 before Underwood joined the panel earlier this year. Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan; Disney/Eric McCandless Despite his apprehension over returning, Bryan emphasized that he loves the show and had a great time on Season 23. 'Last year was really, really incredible with Carrie and Lionel and Ryan [Seacrest],' he said. 'And the main thing is just, have fun with American Idol and have fun with the kids [contestants].' As for his future, he simply added, 'We'll see what happens.' Bryan has spoken in the past about how he and Richie are on one-year contracts that are re-upped ahead of the new season. He admitted that Disney, ABC's parent company, are often 'tightlipped' about its decisions, so he often doesn't know until late-on whether or not he'll be back. In July 2024, ahead of Season 23, he told Billboard, 'We currently haven't heard what the story is on who's coming back, and if Lionel and I are coming back.
