Many of you hit us up.
I'm just gonna pick Derek here.
Derek hit me; he said, what are your thoughts on Jon Gruden saying he would die to coach in the SEC?
I think you'd do it right now.
I think you'd do it.
He spoke at Georgia the other day; for those of you unfamiliar, he was down there watching Georgia practice.
I think Kirby had him speak to the team, and he said, I'm paraphrasing, he said the only reason I really came here is I wanna coach again.
He said, I would die to coach in the SEC.
I'd efing love it.
And he's not messing around.
Jon Gruden's looking to get back into coaching now.
I want you to listen to me.
There's no gray area on this.
My opinion on this is Jon Gruden can kill it if he gets into college football coaching.
Jon Gruden can kill it.
Let me be very clear, I mean the right situation, because no one's gonna kill it in the wrong situation.
So Jon Gruden could absolutely win in college football, and for those of you who say he can't, I know there will be some of you out there, because I know our audience, I know what my comment section looks like.
Here's what I'm asking you.
What is it that it takes to win in college football that Jon Gruden lacks?
If you doubt him, if you think if he gets hired, it'll be a joke, what is it that it takes to win that he lacks?
Because I'm gonna tell you what I think it takes to win.
I think you've gotta be able to hire.
I think you've got to be able to acquire talent in the NFL; that means drafting and free agency.
In college football that means recruiting and portal and free agency.
Can you develop players?
In college football, especially this next bullet point, are you flexible?
Can you roll with the changes, because that has been eternal lately in this sport, and most importantly.
Once you get past all that, do you ignite a fan base?
I got my doubts about whether Belichick will work out at UNC, but you better believe he ignited that fan base.
You're looking for different revenue streams these days.
It matters more these days.
Do you understand the dynamics if you're sitting there in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
And Jon Gruden is announced as your new head coach.
You think Cal did something for basketball juice in Northwest Arkansas?
Imagine what hiring Jon Gruden does.
I'm asking you, I'm really asking you, what is it that it takes to win in college football that he doesn't bring to the table?
Because I think he'd surround himself with an excellent staff.
I think folks would want to coach with Jon Gruden.
I guarantee you I know about 90% of the fan bases in the country would be very open to Jon Gruden becoming their coach, and the 10% who wouldn't be open to it have great head coaches already, so they don't need it.
Which jobs would he take is the question.
To me, Jon Gruden's gonna get a head coaching job, OK?
I'm putting that out there.
I think Jon Gruden's gonna be a college football head coach.
It's not about which programs would offer him the job.
There are a bunch of them out there who will offer him the job.
I believe the question is which programs would Jon Gruden be open to taking the job at?
Which, which jobs appeal to him, because there's a thought right now in the coaching world for the younger guys who are up and coming.
That, uh, let's say you're in a G5 program right now.
You don't jump until one of the top 15 jobs in the country are open.
That wasn't the way it used to be, but it is now.
Um, Jon Gruden's not a young up and comer, though, so if, if one of these jobs were to open and it's like the 21st best job in the country, I think Gruden would probably jump at it.
The reason I mention Arkansas is because there's, I don't know, there's kind of a weird tweener sort of vibe there right now with Pitt, which I hate because I love him, but it feels that way, and there's big money in Northwest Arkansas.
They've got to go about it unconventionally.
It just feels like that's the kind of place that if this, if this button were to be pressed, if this lever were to be pulled, feels like Arkansas could be one of those programs.
I haven't heard anything.
Uh, let me be very clear.
I haven't heard a word about that.
I'm thinking out loud here, but make no mistake, children make no mistake.
Jon Gruden would work in college football, and I hope, I may even pray tonight before I go to bed that Jon Gruden gets the opportunity in college football.

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin reveals which CB will cover Buccaneers' Mike Evans in practice

Heading into the Pittsburgh Steelers' joint practice and preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, there aren't many cornerbacks who could successfully cover All-Pro WR Mike Evans — something HC Mike Tomlin knows all too well. Reporters had the opportunity to catch up with Tomlin before the joint practice in Pittsburgh, and when asked which cornerback of the elite Steelers trio would match up against the Buccaneers superstar, Tomlin laughed off that there was really no debate: Jalen Ramsey would get the opportunity. "There's not a whole lot of conversations. Jalen's going to get it," Tomlin said on Thursday, via ESPN's Brooke Pryor. "Some people may hate it, and I love that competitive spirit in the collective, but I think it's already been decided." Evans got the better of Ramsey the last time the two faced off on January 23, 2022 — during the NFC Divisional playoffs. While the Rams would advance with a win over Tampa Bay, Evans caught eight passes for 119 yards and one touchdown. It's safe to say Ramsey's looking to even the score with some matchup wins throughout joint practice, which will be covered extensively here at Steelers Wire — as will the Steelers' preseason Week 2 matchup against the Buccaneers taking place on Saturday, August 16, at 7:00 PM EST. Florida football 'could be a fringe CFP squad' per Sports Illustrated

Florida football could be one of the most intriguing teams in the SEC this season. In his 2025 SEC football preview, Sports Illustrated's Bryan Fischer lists the Florida Gators among the programs capable of making noise in the College Football Playoff race. The Gators' hopes start with sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway. If he can stay healthy, then the Orange and Blue have the offensive firepower to compete with the league's heavyweights. As detailed by Fischer, Lagway is the key to Florida's success. Florida's 2025 schedule ranks among the most difficult in college football, featuring showdowns with Georgia, LSU and Texas. With head coach Billy Napier facing a make-or-break season, Fischer believes the Gators have the potential to be a "fringe CFP squad" if they maximize their talent and steer clear of critical missteps. Florida's positioned to emerge as a potential disruptor in the SEC's pecking order. For the Gators to contend, they'll need to combine resilience and good health with a few timely breaks along the way. Here is everything Fischer wrote in his 2025 preview for the Florida Gators. What SI said about Florida "It's a big if, but if QB DJ Lagway can stay healthy, the Gators at least have a shot at making some noise despite playing one of the nation's toughest schedules. There are great linemen like tackle Austin Barber back, a tailback in Jadan Baugh who is just scratching the surface at what he can do and a defense that is low on big names but heavy on dependable play every down," Fischer offers. "Billy Napier is firmly on the hot seat, but if Florida can catch a few breaks and play closer to its ceiling than its floor, this could be a fringe CFP squad." NFL to appeal after Nevada Supreme Court approves Jon Gruden's lawsuit that blocked arbitration

The Nevada Supreme Court sided with Jon Gruden in an appeal, marking the latest legal victory in his ongoing lawsuit against the NFL. The decision, which was made official Monday, blocks the NFL from sending the case into arbitration. The NFL announced in a statement to media Tuesday that it will appeal the decision. One of the issues at hand was an arbitration clause in the NFL's constitution, which the league argued kept Gruden from making the lawsuit public. But on Monday, the Nevada Supreme Court ruled 5-2 in favor of the former Las Vegas Raiders head coach, finding that the clause is "unconscionable" and does not apply to Gruden, as he is no longer an employee, via NBC's Mike Florio. Gruden sued the NFL shortly after resigning from the Raiders in 2021; his latest legal battles have been around the manner of the lawsuit. Gruden has wanted his trial to be public, as part of a quest to expose what he believes were deliberate leaks to media outlets; the league, meanwhile, wanted a closed-door arbitration. Gruden originally won before a trial court, but a Nevada Supreme Court panel overturned the ruling in May 2024 as part of a lengthy appeal. Per court documents, Gruden's lawyers filed for a rehearing on the appeal last summer, which was denied. A month later, they filed for an en banc reconsideration, which was granted in October. The panel officially sided with Gruden on Monday. The NFL has yet to comment on Gruden's latest legal victory, but it is likely the league will appeal the ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court, which may or may not decide to hear the case. Gruden sought public lawsuit in court to expose 'the truth' Gruden resigned from his job as Raiders head coach in 2021 after a New York Times report exposed his email exchanges with former Washington Football Team executive Bruce Allen, among others, that showed his use of racist, anti-gay and misogynistic language. Gruden sued the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell in 2021, accusing them of plotting to destroy his career via a "malicious and orchestrated campaign" by leaking those emails. The emails surfaced from an investigation into the Washington Commanders and then-team owner Dan Snyder. The lawsuit argues that Gruden was targeted in the alleged leaks and that "there is no explanation or justification" for why the correspondence of others in the league was not exposed. Gruden had previously vowed that "the truth will come out" regarding unnamed others around the NFL. NFL sought closed-door arbitration The NFL has since made multiple attempts to strike down the lawsuit, arguing that a clause in Gruden's contract with the Raiders requires him to seek dispute settlement via arbitration. Gruden's attorneys have argued that the clause doesn't apply since he is no longer an employee of the Raiders and that his dispute is with the NFL, not the Raiders. In 2022, Nevada 8th Judicial District Court Judge Nancy Allf denied the NFL's effort to dismiss the lawsuit and ruled the case could continue in open court. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy dismissed Gruden's lawsuit as meritless after the district court ruling and vowed to appeal. 'The allegations are entirely meritless and the NFL will vigorously defend against these claims,' McCarthy's 2022 statement reads.
