After noting that he and Sarah Jessica Parker had worked with the show's creative team to extend Season 3 from 10 episodes to 12, he added, 'SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn't want the word 'final' to overshadow the fun of watching the season. It's with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years.' The series finale will air on HBO Max on Aug. 14.
Several of the show's stars, including Parker and Kristin Davis, shared thoughts on its conclusion in social media posts of their own. 'Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all. I know others have loved her just as I have,' Parker wrote on Instagram, before noting she and King 'recognized, as we have in the past, this chapter complete.'
Davis, who played Charlotte York Goldenblatt, wrote that she was 'profoundly sad,' adding: 'I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working so hard on our show with deep love. And to our loyal fans, we love you forever and ever.'
And Just Like That... premiered in December 2021 as a sequel to Sex and the City, which ran from 1998 to 2004 and spawned two feature films. In addition to Parker as Carrie and Davis as Charlotte, original series star Cynthia Nixon reprised her role as Miranda Hobbes. Actors Sarita Choudhury, Karen Pittman, and Sara Ramírez were among the many newcomers.
Notably absent from the And Just Like That... principal cast was Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones. Cattrall had been famously outspoken about her disinterest in returning to the Sex and the City franchise following the 2010 release of the second film amid reports of a behind-the-scenes feud with Parker. Still, she was successfully wooed back for a much-buzzed-about cameo in the new show's Season 2 finale, which aired in 2023.

Though King's announcement might have caught many fans off guard, it wasn't exactly a surprise given the mixed reception And Just Like That... has received, particularly in its third season. Reviews of the series ranged from ' the great TV hate watch of our time ' to ' one of the worst shows on television,' while others were quick to point out the seemingly glaring plot holes present across multiple episodes.
In an oddly prescient review published last month, Los Angeles Times critic Mary McNamara wrote, 'We're midway through the third — and one can only hope final — season, and I am hoarse from screaming at watching these beloved characters behave as if they had done some sort of ' Freaky Friday ' switch with 13-year-olds. Which is actually an insult to most 13-year-olds.'

First announced back in 2022, this HBO prequel show hails from the creative team behind the two recent feature adaptations, Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs. Andy Muschietti directed several episodes with Fuchs on producing and scripting duties. It marks the second small-screen appearance of sewer-dwelling clown Pennywise after he first terrorized a generation in the cult classic 1990 miniseries. Fans of the door stopper tome who are familiar with those existing adaptations are in for a treat. This upcoming serialized take is heading back in time to three eras of Pennywise's reign previously unexplored onscreen. As it goes, we've accumulated all the latest info on the series, from its tentative release date down to the rumors about future seasons, so you can get your fill of everything related to It: Welcome to Derry right here. Does It: Welcome to Derry have a release date? Initially slated for a Halloween 2024 release, the premiere was pushed back in light of the writers strike. HBO Max has now confirmed it will arrive in October 2025, with an exact release date not yet announced. The nine-episode first season started filming in downtown Port Hope, Ontario in May 2023, taking a significant pause for the writers strikes, eventually wrapping in August 2024. We now know it's coming to our screens in time for the spookiest season of all, and a new social media post read: "ll roads lead to Derry. In May, we got a first proper look at Welcome to Derry which I described as "delightfully" creepy in my trailer reaction. The trailer takes us back to the Stephen King's cursed fictional town of Derry, and introduces us to some of the residents who are unlucky enough to be haunted by its dark secrets. Another teaser clip is 7 seconds long and opens with a group of kids pushing their bikes beneath a bridge as a train passes overhead. One girl asks "What did you see?" and a boy responds "A clown" as we see the little tyke pulled underwater by a rotting arm. It appears Adepo might be playing Mike Hanlon's father, Will, as early promotional photos show him in military uniform with his surname stitched onto his attire. Well over a year later, Deadline announced Bill Skarsgard's return as the clown Pennywise. Skarsgard performed in the 2017 and 2019 It movies, delivering a performance that carries echoes of Tim Curry's Pennywise from the '90s miniseries yet is entirely his own. It: Welcome to Derry story and rumors Described as a prequel series, IT: Welcome to Derry will take place before the events of the 2017 feature film. HBO's official logline is pretty brief: "Set in the world of Stephen King's IT universe, IT: WELCOME TO DERRY is based on King's IT novel and expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films IT and IT Chapter Two." According to reports, it revolves around what Andy Muschietti terms "interludes" from King's novel. In the book, we learn details about the history of Derry and Pennywise's previous attempts to bring havoc to the town from Mike Hanlon. This first season runs 9 episodes long and is set to explore a specific set of events depicted in Hanlon's writing, namely; the burning of the Black Spot. Because the film adaptations shifted the action from the 1950s to the 1980s, these earlier periods will also be nudged forward. The main story of the show will take place in 1962 – exactly 27 years before the story depicted in the 2017 film – and unravel the story of the Black Spot. In the novel, we learn about the Black Spot from Hanlon's father, Will, who recants the tale to him from his hospital bed. During Will Hanlon's stint in the Air Force, he and his fellow airmen open a bar for Black patrons which is targeted by white supremacists. During the ensuing tragedy, Pennywise manifests in the form of a giant bird, snatching its first victim. While the focus this time around is on new characters and new scenarios, the Muschiettis assure fans that familiar themes will resonate into the show such as friendship, loss and the power of unified belief, but in addition, Andy told Entertainment Weekly that the show "focuses also on the use of fear as a weapon, which is one of the things that is also relevant to our times." What's most exciting is that this will bring to the screen moments from King's extensive It lore that have previously only existed on page. Will there be future seasons of It: Welcome to Derry? As it stands now, the plan for the series is to roll out three seasons — each delving into a specific epoch of Pennywise's reign in the small Maine town. Muschietti, in an interview with Radio TU, explained his plan for what happens beyond season one. 'It's a story that's based on the interludes of the book. The interludes are basically chapters that reflect Mike Hanlon's research… For 27 years, it's the guy trying to figure out what it is, what did it, who did it, who saw it, and all that stuff. 'So they talk about catastrophic events from the past, like the fire in the Black Spot…. the massacre of the Bradley Gang, a gang of bank robbers in the '30s… and the explosion of the Kitchener Ironworks. Every time [Pennywise] comes out of hibernation, there is a catastrophic event that happens at the beginning of that cycle." Each season's story is slated to unravel 27 years before the first. Muschietti goes on to tease: "There's a reason why the story is told backwards. So the first season is 1962, the second season is 1935, and the third season is 1908.' It's hard to imagine a series based on a popular property such as IT would fail to score a season two renewal, so we'd hazard a guess and say a sophomore season will likely drop in late 2026 or early 2027. Me neither, but I'm happy to report it's a great month for horror movies across the best streaming services. Whether you're after nineties classics or critically-acclaimed new releases, I've found seven of the best horror movies you can stream throughout the month. Oh, and there are clowns, lots of clowns. If you're planning a theater trip instead, don't forget to check out our new movies roundup for the biggest and best titles coming this year. Anaconda When: August 1Where: Netflix (US); Rent or buy (UK, AU) If you're scared of snakes, you might want to sit this one out. Or if you're feeling brave, it's now streaming on Netflix. The iconic 1997 movie focuses on a documentary film crew in the Amazon rainforest that is led by a snake hunter. The hunter is looking for a giant, legendary green anaconda, and of course, nothing could possibly go wrong here. With the right mix of action and horror, US audiences are in for a treat. Sadly, it's not streaming in other territories right now. Final Destination Bloodlines When: August 1Where: HBO Max (US); Rent or buy (UK, AU) HBO Max remains an excellent place to find all the latest horror movies. Their newest addition is Final Destination Bloodlines, a sequel that has left fans seriously impressed. Over the years, the franchise has seen mixed Rotten Tomatoes scores, and everyone has their own thoughts on which movie is the best. Currently, Bloodlines is the highest of the bunch with an impressive 93% on the Tomatometer. Following on from the other plots, this one centers on a college student who is plagued by a violent and recurring nightmare. So she tries to stop the cycle of death and save her loved ones. Final Destination fans know this setup well, and you're in for a grisly treat. Happy Death Day When: August 1Where: Peacock (US); Netflix (UK); Stan (AU) Time loop movies have been done to death (excuse the pun) after Groundhog Day, but Happy Death Day is a solid take on reliving the same day over and over. Here, we follow a college student who is murdered on the night of her birthday, but begins to relive the day again and again. In an attempt to break the loop and get her life back, she uses these resets to try and track down the killer. The sequel, Happy Death Day 2U, is just as good, but unfortunately, it's not available to stream. Killer Klowns From Outer Space When: August 1Where: Prime Video (US, UK); Paramount+ (AU) The first of many clown movies this month is Killer Klowns from Outer Space, which is exactly what it says on the tin, really. This well-known sci-fi comedy horror is well worth your time, mashing up plenty of genres with highly entertaining results. These aren't just any clowns, as the title suggests, we're dealing with extraterrestrials that look like clowns who descend on Earth. They invade a small town and begin kidnapping the locals, so they can harvest them for food. This 80s horror was a huge box office success, and it's well worth watching at home, too. Gags the Clown When: August 7Where: Shudder (US); Prime Video (US, UK) The second in our clown-filled horror recommendations this month is Gags the Clown. If clowns weren't already horrifying enough, this one is found footage, which adds that extra layer of feeling uncomfortable. Cool. In this movie, a clown roams the city streets at night, terrorizing the population. This prompts a local news reporter to try and find out his identity and put a stop to the madness. Unfortunately, Gags has inspired a group of schoolkids to create trouble too, and there's chaos around every corner. This is perfect if you want a gritty, realistic horror. The Monkey When: August 7Where: Hulu (US); Rent or buy (UK, AU) The Monkey is Osgood Perkins' latest horror outing after his terrifying Nic Cage-led Longlegs, but this one has very different vibes. Taking a darker comedy approach, The Monkey is based on a Stephen King short story and follows twin brothers whose lives are turned upside down by a cursed toy monkey that causes horrific deaths around them. There's a great cast here with Theo James playing the brothers, and Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Adam Scott, and Perkins himself round out the cast. Clown in a Cornfield When: August 8Where: Shudder (worldwide) Finally, check out this other literally named clown movie. Clown in a Cornfield follows, er, a clown in a cornfield who emerges to target locals and "cleanse the town of its burdens". Unfortunately for protagonist Quinn and her father, they've just moved to this quiet town where they end up going head to head with this serial killer clown, who is on a rampage after the town has fallen on hard times. Slasher movie fans should have a fun time with this one when it lands on August 8. Kim Cattrall Shades ‘And Just Like That' Cancellation With Cryptic Post
And just like that, the Sex and the City reboot has reached a bitter end—and Kim Cattrall is breathing a sigh of relief. And Just Like That, the follow-up to the award-winning HBO series, reunited original stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon. Cattrall, who played fan favorite character Samantha Jones, was absent from the spin-off due to her public feud with Parker. Cattrall seemed to shade the series' end with a picture of a sunset and the caption: 'It's the end of a very long week' alongside a red heart and kiss emoji. Fans were quick to pick up on the viral diss. 'Kim, we need a fabulous new series just for you,' one said. 'Real ones knew.' 'Without 'Samantha' it is the end of a very loooonnnngggg three seasons!' another chimed in. 'Translation: finally this thing is over (in a Samantha voice),' a third commented alongside a winky emoji. Cattrall has accused Parker of behaving cruelly toward her during the original series and said that the two had never really been friends. Cattrall said Parker was not genuine in her condolences after Cattrall's brother died in 2018. Parker has called the feud 'very painful.' 'We did not ask her to be part of this [And Just Like That] because she made it clear that that wasn't something she wanted to pursue, and it no longer felt comfortable for us, and so it didn't occur to us,' Parker told The Hollywood Reporter in 2022. 'That's not 'slamming' her, it's just learning' And Just Like That showrunner Michael Patrick King announced the series' end after its third season, hours before Cattrall's post. 'It's with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years,' he said. He added that he held off on announcing the news until now 'because we didn't want the word 'final' to overshadow the fun of watching the season.' Although Cattrall, 68, made a brief cameo in the season 2 finale, she otherwise steered clear of the reboot. Cattrall's short cameo, where she calls Parker's character, Carrie Bradshaw, was filmed separately and without involving the other cast members. The other actresses expressed sadness and the series' end. Davis said she was 'profoundly sad' about the show's ending, and Nixon said that the filming had been 'such a delight from start to finish.' Parker, 60, posted a montage reel of her character's moments on Instagram. Carrie 'changed homes, time zones, boyfriends, her mind, her shoes, her hair, but never her love and devotion to New York City,' she wrote. 'I am better for every single day I spent with you,' she said to her fans. 'It will be forever before I forget. The whole thing. Thank you all. I love you so.
