And Just like That: Fans Have a Theory About How the Show Will End

And just like that, it's time to say goodbye to Carrie Bradshaw and the girlies. After three series, it's been confirmed that And Just Like That... will wrap up for good this month, with showrunner Michael Patrick King announcing that the "Sex and the City universe" is coming to an end. RIP. Despite the (very!) mixed reviews the SATC spin-off has received since it started airing in 2021, fans have understandably been quite cut up about bidding farewell to these iconic characters—more on their reactions in a moment. That being said, after decades in the SATC universe, it's only natural that viewers are theorizing about how the show will close, and one theory seems to be pretty prominent, especially among Samantha Jones fans. "And Just Like That needs to end with Samantha waking up and saying 'What a horrible dream!?'" one fan suggested on X, referencing the absence of Kim Cattrall's legendary character. "But for real, And Just Like That should end with Samantha waking up from a three year long coma and going: 'I just had the worst dream'. And then smash to black," another fan agreed, as someone else shared: "It should end with a Samantha scene!! She was the show!!" Other viewers hope that we'll see the show switch to Samantha's life in London, although, given the wording that the entire SATC "universe" is coming to an end, that might be unrealistic. "It'd be even better if they could pass the baton over to Samantha in London for the last hour of show – we get a tiny glimpse into her wonderful sex life with a younger man, her social life with Black and gay friends, her office fling with an older man coz duh, she trying poly!" one fan suggested, as another wrote, "I'd like a Samantha spin off." Elsewhere, another viewer pointed to how relieved the actress who played her must be feeling. "Kim Cattrall after seeing this news, realizing no one will ever bother her about playing Samantha Jones again," they posted. Here's a few more reactions to the news that AJLT is ending... AJLT's final episodes will air later this month. Say it ain't so!

The end of a TV era: And Just Like That... season three will be the show's last

Things happen fast in New York City. One week, you're celebrating Carrie and Aidan's breakup, the next you're mourning the loss of your favourite show. In a shocking move, HBO has announced that And Just Like That... will end with season three. The last episode will air in two weeks, with no hope of a season four. "And just like that... the ongoing storytelling of the Sex and the City universe is coming to an end," began a statement from showrunner Michael Patrick King, posted on Instagram on Friday 1 August. "While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That... season three, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop." Michael continued, saying that he, alongside Sarah Jessica Parker and HBO execs Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, mutually decided to end the series with a two-part finale. "SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn't want the word 'final' to overshadow the fun of watching the season," he wrote. "It's with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years." It's unclear if And Just Like That... was cancelled by the network or naturally came to an end on its own. Viewership for the show's third (and now final) season had reportedly been declining, and it's possible that all the "love to hate it" discourse became too much to ignore. Or maybe Sarah Jessica Parker and her fellow co-stars, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Sarita Choudhury, and Nicole Ari Parker were simply ready to say goodbye. Whatever the reason, it sounds like this might be the last time fans ever get to see Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda on their screens — note Michael's use of the term "Sex and the City universe". It's truly the end of a television era. And Just Like That... will end with a two-part series finale, with part one airing on Thursday 7 August, and part two airing on August 14.

In the post, she said: 'She crossed streets, avenues, rubicons, so it seemed. She broke hearts, heels, habits. She loved, lost, won, tripped, leaped, fell short, and into puddles. Aged, got wiser. 'Changed homes, time zones, boyfriends, her mind, her shoes, her hair, but never her love and devotion to New York City,' Parker said. ‌ 'She had dates, drinks, boyfriends, a husband, and truly great loves and romances. She hailed cabs, she ran in heels, and danced with Stanford. She told the truth and she lied. She typed, wondered, wrote, published, grieved, forgave. Got stood up, stood strong, stood out. "She devoted herself to hats, books, shoes, friends and the promise of a new day in her beloved city and the people she treasured most. She has worn shame, pride, honor, optimism and literally countless dresses, skirts, tutus. "Held onto hands, hopes and the very best of people. Sex and the City's And Just Like That... to end after third season

And Just Like That... is set to conclude after its third season, showrunner Michael Patrick King has confirmed Sex and the City's spin-off And Just Like That... will end after its third series, TV bosses have confirmed. The HBO show, which reunites viewers with the much-loved characters, will cease broadcasting after its two-part finale. ‌ Showrunner Michael Patrick King said he recognised the end was nigh whilst penning the final episode, explaining on Instagram that "it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop". ‌ Despite the cast and crew knowing the programme's fate, they delayed the announcement to ensure "didn't want the word 'final' to overshadow the fun of watching the season". ‌ And Just Like That premiered in 2021, continuing the original storyline with three of the four principal characters returning. Sarah Jessica Parker reprised her role as Carrie Bradshaw alongside Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes and Kristin Davis as Charlotte York. Kim Cattrall, who portrayed Samantha, chose not to participate in the revival, though she made a fleeting appearance in the second series finale. ‌ Sarah Jessica Parker, who has embodied Carrie since SATC's debut episode in 1998 and served as executive producer, reflected that the character has "dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years." However, she now believes this chapter of her career feels "complete." Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte York, said online: "I am profoundly sad. I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working so hard on our show with deep love. And to our loyal fans, we love you forever and ever." ‌ Cynthia Nixon, known for her role as Miranda Hobbs, shared her thoughts: "I can't believe our wild beautiful And Just Like That ride is almost over. It has been such a delight from start to finish. I will miss working with these people everyday SO incredibly much but know we will always be a part of each other's lives. Get ready for a lot more carousels in the weeks to come! And don't miss these last few episodes: surprises in store!" Sarah Jessica Parker took to Instagram with a heartfelt homage to her character, writing: "She changed homes, time zones, boyfriends, her mind, her shoes, her hair, but never her love and devotion to New York City. ‌ "She devoted herself to hats, books, shoes, friends and the promise of a new day in her beloved city and the people she treasured most. She has worn shame, pride, honor, optimism and literally countless dresses, skirts, tutus. "Held onto hands, hopes and the very best of people. Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte, there will never be better friends and what great fortune for Carrie to come to know and love Seema and LTW, most divine new connections." She went on: "Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all. I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her. ‌ "The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion. Therefore the most sentimental and profound gratitude and lifetime of debt. To you all. "MPK and I together recognised, as we have in the past, this chapter complete. AJLT was all joy, adventure, the greatest kind of hard work alongside the most extraordinary talent of 380 that includes all the brilliant actors who joined us. ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
