120 Saudi Government Staff Detained For Suspected Bribery, Job Exploitation
Saudi Arabia's state anti-corruption watchdog has interrogated 435 suspects this month and arrested 120 of them on suspicions of graft amid a relentless clampdown on white-collar corruption in the kingdom.
The detainees are employees at the ministries of interior, defence, municipalities and housing, human resources, transport, and health, as well as the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority, the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority said. They were investigated on charges of bribery and job exploitation.
The watchdog, known as Nazha (Integrity) has reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring, exposing, and prosecuting anyone involved in abusing public office, vowing to protect public funds and reinforce transparency in both public and private sectors.
In recent years, hundreds of state employees and businesspeople in Saudi Arabia have been interrogated for suspected corruption and mismanagement of public money.
In January, local media reported that Saudi authorities had arrested 1,708 people in 2024, including government staff, over suspicions of corruption, money laundering, and influence trading. These arrests followed 4,000 investigations and over 37,000 oversight rounds.
During last year's Hajj season, Nazaha also carried out 9,600 inspections at Mecca's holy sites and affiliated agencies, resulting in 155 arrests linked to corruption.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan travelled to Damascus yesterday, where he said his country would be at the forefront of efforts to rebuild Syria after nearly 14 years of civil war. Prince Faisal had landed in the Syrian capital earlier, alongside an economic delegation on a visit to discuss ways to support Syria's war-ravaged economy, authorities said. 'We affirm that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will remain at the vanguard of countries standing by Syria in its path towards reconstruction and economic recovery,' Prince Faisal said in a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart. Saudi Arabia 'will present joint financial support alongside Qatar to public sector workers' in Syria, he added, while pointing to interest in Syria from Saudi investors. He said Saudi economic delegations would visit Damascus soon, noting that 'work is underway to discuss investment support and economic and trade cooperation' between the two countries. Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, meanwhile, expressed his country's thanks 'for the role Saudi Arabia has played, particularly on the lifting of sanctions' by the United States. Shaibani pointed to 'strategic initiatives aiming to restore infrastructure, replenish agriculture... and create real job opportunities for Syrians'. Body Of Saudi Boy Who Fell Into River In Turkiye Recovered
Search and rescue teams in Turkiye recovered the body of a nine-year-old Saudi boy on Saturday morning, six days after he reportedly fell into Haldizen Creek in Uzungol region. The Saudi Embassy in Turkiye confirmed in a statement on X that the body of the boy was recovered following extensive searches by Turkish rescue teams over the past few days, and that the required procedures are underway in coordination with the family and the pertinent authorities. The boy, who media reports have identified as Faysal Ramzi Al-Sheikh, is believed to have been spending a holiday with his family in Trabzon province when he went missing. It was reported that he was beside one of the steep banks of the creek when he slipped into the river due to heavy rainfalls which had upped the level of the river water. In its statement on X, the Saudi Embassy said: 'May God have mercy on him … the embassy, in coordination with his family and the competent Turkish authorities, will complete the required procedures.' It expressed its deep condolences to the family, adding it 'sincerely thanks the Turkish authorities for their great efforts in searching for the deceased … and recovering his body.'
