"I built LEGO's Twilight Cullen House full of hidden details"

Building LEGO's first-ever Twilight set was a trip down memory lane, bringing iconic scenes from the film saga to life
The moment LEGO announced its epic Twilight Cullen House set, I knew I had to add it to my ever-growing collection. I grew up with Stephenie Meyer's The Twilight Saga, spending my teenage years reading the books and watching the films the moment they hit the cinema. I couldn't wait to build LEGO's set and relive some of the most iconic moments from the film series.
Priced at £189.99, the Cullen House has been designed for adults by California-based LEGO fan Nick Micheels, who submitted the proposal as part of the LEGO Ideas programme. The set includes seven minifigures from the Twilight film: Bella, Edward, Jacob (who also appears in wolf form), Carlisle, Alice, Rosalie and Charlie.
I built LEGO's Twilight Cullen House set over two days, spending a few hours on it each day. I found it to be one of the most enjoyable builds to date. Bringing the iconic house to life was a nostalgic trip down memory lane, making me relive my teenage years.
The Twilight Cullen House set joins a plethora of LEGO sets based on beloved films. Shoppers wanting to check out more builds will be delighted to hear both Very and Argos are currently offering dozens of sets on sale, including Harry Potter, Star Wars and Disney.
The Twilight set incorporates several details from the books and films, which brought me joy each time I spotted one, with some being more obvious than others. Here are all of the hidden features I found in the Cullen House set.
Loch Ness Monster artwork
An unexpected element that made me laugh is the Loch Ness Monster artwork situated behind the grand piano. This is a nod to Breaking Dawn: Part Two when Jacob calls Bella and Edward's daughter Renesmee 'Nessie', much to the dismay of Bella, who replies: "You nicknamed my daughter after the Loch Ness Monster?!"
Blue bathroom door
When I first removed the transparent blue bathroom door from the bag, I didn't think anything of it. It wasn't until I held it up, ready to attach it to the house, that I realised it gives everything a blue tint that's very similar to the filter that the first Twilight film is shot in. I don't know if this is intentional, but I'm taking it as the most impressive hidden detail of all.
Rosalie's salad bowl
It's safe to say Rosalie has some anger issues. In the Twilight film, the Cullens lovingly prepare a meal for Bella (despite never eating themselves), but things take a drastic turn when Bella tells them she has already eaten.
Consumed by rage, Rosalie crushes the salad bowl she's holding. Thankfully, the bowl in the LEGO set is still intact and can sit proudly on the kitchen counter.
Graduation caps
The iconic graduation cap artwork that's displayed on the wall in the Cullen house first appears in the 2008 Twilight film when Bella asks: "Are they graduation caps?" It's a lovely moment when, in Breaking Dawn: Part One, Charlie asks the same question, creating a full-circle moment. I was delighted to see them feature in the LEGO set, as they sure do make a fabulous piece of art.
Thunderstorm baseball game
One of the most memorable scenes from the 2008 Twilight film is when the Cullen family plays baseball during a storm. Muse's Supermassive Black Hole plays in the background, bringing the scene to life.
Who could ever forget Alice's ridiculously high kick before throwing the ball? The game is remembered in LEGO's set, with a baseball hat sitting on the coffee table and bats hanging on the wall.
Bella's cactus
Last but by no means least - Bella's pet cactus. When she first moves to Forks, Washington, she brings her teeny potted spiky plant with her to remind her of her hometown of Phoenix, Arizona.
We see her clutching the cactus as she gets out of the car upon arriving at her dad, Charlie's, house. She's still clinging on to it for dear life while exploring her new bedroom. It was an adorable little touch discovering it in LEGO's set.
The completed Twilight Cullen House has become the centrepiece in my bedroom, standing proudly on a chest of drawers. The only downside to the set is that it doesn't include all members of the Cullen family. I thought it would, due to the higher price point of the set.
I feel sorry for Esme, Jasper and Emmett who have been left out, but maybe this means they will appear in another Twilight-themed LEGO set in the future? One can hope.

'I recorded the voice that annoys thousands of people every day, and I love it'

Alison was paid for five days work recording phrases that have definitely made you feel angry The woman behind the voice of the Sainsbury's self-checkout tills has explained how she got the gig - and exactly what she was paid to do. Alison Parsons, 36, says it's amusing to her people getting frustrated at "her" while doing their shopping. She first heard about the quirky role through her modelling agent. After self-taping her voice at her home studio in, Alison made it through the "long process" and was offered the job. She had to record phrases such as 'Would you like a receipt' and 'Have you scanned your Nectar card?'. ‌ She will remain the voice of the tills until 2028 - after the supermarket chain paid to use her voice for five years. Alison now regularly sees people getting frustrated at the tills when listening to her voice. Alison, a performer, from Kent, said: "It was such a long process. ‌ "I had to record 26 lines. They included things like 'would you like a receipt?' and 'have you scanned your Nectar card?'. 'Thank you' is actually a line I had a record three times as they weren't happy with it. "I was trying to neutralise my accent as I've got quite a strong Kent accent. Even now when I go in [to Sainsbury's ] I can hear people getting annoyed with it and I just sit there and laugh. If I'm with any friends in the shop they're like 'that's her voice' to other. "And I think they don't believe us." Alison had previously modelled for Argos, which is connected to Sainsbury's, along with homeware brand Habitat. It was through this job she was told about the voiceover gig. She said: "I'd done some modelling for the website, and catalogue and an advert for Argos insurance. "I already knew the company liked my voice. I had to do a self-tape. They sent me a few lines to read through in my home set-up. There were months in between where I was told I was shortlisted, but they were testing a voice in Sainsbury's. ‌ "They tested the voices that were shortlisted in store, and asked customers, and apparently my voice was their favourite and most relatable. I got picked from there. I can't say the exact figures, but I was paid a day rate over a total of five days. "Then they paid buy out fees, so they buy my voice for a certain length of time. This time it was five years." Alison has worked in the performing industry as a dancer since 2012, but as one of her first voiceover jobs, she felt "really proud". She said: "It was surreal to be honest. I was quite new to voiceover then and I was proud of it and telling a lot of people. "A friend messaged me in December 2023 saying 'I think your voice is on the tills now'. I was coming back from a job in Scotland, so it was in the store in London that I heard it for the first time. One of my best friends shops in Sainsbury's all the time and she'll message me every time saying 'aw I feel like I've seen you today'. "Since I've done the job, I've moved house. Where I was before I didn't have a Sainsbury's anywhere near me. Now I've moved house I've got a local Sainsbury's so I'm in there a lot more."

New free streaming platform launching with TV favourites from BBC, ITV and Channel 4

Everyone TV, the company behind free streaming platform Freely, has announced a major deal with global streaming company Roku. A new free telly channel is set to debut, featuring favourites from broadcasters such as BBC, ITV and Channel 4. Everyone TV, the group behind the free streaming platform Freely, has announced a significant agreement with global streaming giant Roku. ‌ In a massive leap for Freely's growth, the free streaming service will be accessible on the next generation of smart tellies powered by Roku's operating system. ‌ Supported by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and 5, Freely includes all their live channels and players. It also provides content offerings from GB News, U&Dave, and PBS America, reports the Express. As if that wasn't enough, a launch later this year will see 16 new streamed channels showcasing programmes from UK public service broadcasters including The Chase, GPs Behind Closed Doors, Police Interceptors, The Yorkshire Vet, Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly and more. Currently, Roku holds the top spot for telly streaming platforms in the US, Canada and Mexico, and has reached over 90 million households globally. After launching in the UK in 2012, Roku TV models and streaming players have become available at all major retailers online and across the country. ‌ Freely launched in April this year, and has given viewers the chance to binge more on demand content than any streaming service in the UK, with access to 97% of the nation's favourite shows. Everyone TV's CEO, Jonathan Thompson, stated: "Offering Freely on the Roku operating system is a major milestone for us, as we continue to expand reach for the free streaming platform. "We're delighted that as a huge global player, Roku has recognised the importance of easy and seamless access to public service broadcast content for UK audiences and I look forward to seeing Freely smart TVs with Roku in market this summer." ‌ Roku's UK Country Manager, Richard Halton, added: "Roku believes that all TV will be streamed. We are excited to partner with Freely and continue our collaboration with UK broadcasters. Together we will bring the best content discovery experience to viewers across the UK. "We look forward to unveiling our new Roku TV models with Freely built-in, which will be available from UK retailers this summer." This month, Roku TV models with Freely will be available, starting with Sharp, Polaroid, and METZ.
